A short story for some -- a riddle for others...

Last summer, while I was working in my front yard, my neighbor and her little girl stopped by as they walked to the corner store.

The mother and I chatted for a short while, then I greeted the little girl and asked what she wanted to be when she grew up.

She said she wanted to be president.

I asked what the first thing she would do as president.

She said that she would give every homeless person food and a house.

Her mom glowed with pride.

I said, "that's a nice thing to do, but you don't have to wait until you become president to start doing that."

She was bewildered, so I explained.

I told her she could cut my grass and prune my shrubs, and I would give her fifty dollars that she good give to the homeless person down the street, and he could put it towards food and a house.

She again looked bewildered, then she asked, "Why doesn't he just over and cut the grass and prune the shrubs himself, then you can just give the money to him?"

I said, "Welcome to the Republican Party."

Mom wasn't pleased with my answer.

You mean like those people who stand on every street corner all across America, looking sad, holding a sign saying "PLEASE HELP"?  No arms or legs like them, right?
