The left right dichotomy is actually fake.

Recommended Posts

A massive amount of political discussion is consumed by what is 'right' wing or 'left' wing.

What do those categories mean? Well it's nothing more than a social identity imo...you decide which you are based on your friends and family.. then you consume media product for your identity and therefore remain stuck in an echo chamber.

There are differences in personality between people who consider themselves left or right...but this is because of the selection bias of entering each category...the right is often associated with Christianity for example while the left is associated with urban and liberal arts degree types.

But there is no coherent measure of how a certain policy would be right or left wing. Both echo chambers are fundamentally a type of liberalism and both can promote authoritarianism, tradition, credentialism, wro or anti war sentiments, etc. Depending on the specific issue.

I actually have a conspiratorial view of how and why our elite foster this fake social idebtity paradigm. For one thing I believe it is remarkable that since reagan all of our elections have been very close...the us population is pretty evenly split 50/50 into one echo chamber or another. And politics is carefully engineered to ensure that neither side winds up dominating...despite the fact you would expect one side to dominate given the massive changes in population demographics etc.

It is alsonworth mentioning that there actually has been almost no substantive difference between the policies in this country since reagan. Every president basically continues fundamental reagan policies.

The highly influential...but rather obscure political philosopher artur finklesein actually explicitly noted the advantages of creating a false dialectic.

For one thing if people are used to thinking that politics is all about whether abortions should be legal or not...they will ignore the possibility that there might actually be more important issues that nobody is even talking about...and they will ignore the fact that nothing they want is actually getting done (it isn't because of our elite it is because of those darn christiams)

By fostering hatred of one side for the other you can also manipulate people's opinions (the evil people are opposed to war in Iraq therefore war in Iraq must be good)

You also maintain an illusion among people of choice and that their vote really matters (another reason the split must be 50/50)...so they will ignore the possibility that they are just being ruled by a hostile elite.

And their method for causing political change is just voting so they will simply vote rather than try some more effective method.

Both the political parties assume certain shared values. For example both of them are intrinsically liberal (a political philosophy which is essence capitalism applied to society as a whole.. that competition results in meritocracy...either of a business or a political policy or criminal justice etc.)

I personally actually reject the fundamental priors of liberalism itself...which people are not allowed to even think about. People are only allowed to argue about the media sanctioned issues.

Liberals have diseased brains, while conservatives have normal, functioning thought processes.

Liberals today do in fact have diseased brains...but they are driven insane by the media/education they consume.

This is probably deliberate...to counteract the impact of mass immigration on votes. The establishment probably wants to terrify a lot of Latina people with the strange and profane stuff the dems are coming up with today
