For me, starts w/ the .270 Winchester/150 gr. PSP.

Be it the Factory loaded Federal Nosler Partition, or the economical Hand-loaded Speer Grand Slam, the .277/150 gr. at ~ 2800 fps. out of a handy 22" Bbl'ed hunting rifle, is an absolute killer of game, and a pleasure to shoot.

It has the unique combination of the ballistic coefficient/trajectory/recoil of a 150 gr. .30 CAL M2 ball round, and the sectional density/penetration of a 180 gr. PSP .30-06.

It is a mice-to-moose cartridge, that is precision "shoot-all-day" comfortable from an 8.5 lb. scoped bolt action rifle, for all but delicate hunters.

It is not spectacular, and it has no faults.

... it's just perfect.

How does it work on deranged, socialist monkeys?

Next up is the 6.5x55mm Mauser/140 gr. PSP.

6.5_x_55mm.JPG

Known as the "Swede," or Swedish Mauser, this cartridge, along w/ the 7mm Mauser, is one of the original modern metallic rifle cartridges.

U.S. Factory loadings are mild, due to the existence of ancient, Krag-Jorgensen rifles, that were know to have weak receiver rings.

European loadings are quite a bit better, but it is the handload, for a Mauser or modern action rifle, where the cartridge truly shines.

W/ muzzle velocities in excess of 2700 fps. w/ the 140 gr. bullet, this is also a mice-to-moose round, but w/ less recoil, and less effective range.

The modern equivalent is the 6.5mm Creedmoor, a short action cartridge that duplicates the Swede's performance w/ higher pressure and a smaller case.

But there is one thing that the 6.5 CM can't do...

... and that is chamber in this beauty.

... a RUGER Hawkeye 24" Bbl'ed M77 African, w/ a NECG aperture sight.
