My grandfathers medals from WWII

A treasure.

We didn't know my uncle had medals (not even his children) until after he lost his battle with cancer.  They were packing his things and found his old trunk.  Inside was a Purple Heart with a star, a Bronze Star, a Silver Star with an oak leaf and a Medal of Valor.  His eldest son put them and other ribbons in a shadow box.

He was the meekest guy you would probably ever meet...who knew at one time he was a bad ass.

Whoa!  GRANDFATHER?  My dad was in WWII.  He was in the Phillipines serving as a Marine when they fell in April/May 1942 so spent the duration of the war as a POW.  He has two Purple Hearts.

How long did it take for him to get back home?

My dad joined the Navy as a hospital corpsman before the war started. The Navy attached him to the Marine corps so he went to the Pacific with the Marines. This was not his original plan.

Dad got shot. He didn't talk about it much.

Memorial Day honors the fallen that never came home from war, Veterans Day is for the ones that served and lived to tell about it.

When you put the meat on the grill, or in the smoker, for the get-together this three-day weekend at least pause for a moment to remember the reason for the holiday and who we honor.  It is not for all that served (there's a different day for that), this is for those how made the ultimate sacrifice for us.

I had an uncle that was in the second wave to hit Omaha Beach and who spent all his time on the front lines of Europe.  He would tell a few stories...mostly about losing friends...but the only thing he ever said about Omaha was that the opening of Saving Private Ryan made it look better than it was.

Enjoy your time with family and friends, that's part of why they did what they did.  But at least acknowledge them.

In June, 1944, my father was a 19yr.-old Missouri farm-boy who charged Utah Beach.  (he is dead now).

He never liked to talk about it.    But when pressed around a campfire, he said that everyone was scared to death.

He said that everyone was puking, praying, or turning white with stone-cold fear.  Half were screaming to go back

to the ship.     But there was no going back.   Then he would get a strong whiskey and go off by himself.               🥃.

My maternal grandfather won many medals during WW2...indeed he became a colonel in the air force.

But I think the Nazis were right.

I can't blame people for trusting their state. I guess that can go for both sides. But the war was stupid and unnecessary, especially for americans.

I went to Jefferson County Ga today to do an audit and open records request. I stopped and visited their memorial for each war in front of the courthouse. After I read it all I stood in front of the WW1 monument and said a little prayer for all. It is their sacrifices that allow me to do audit and open records on our government.

THEN YOU SHOULD BE OLD ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND THE SACRIFICES THEY MADE FOR OUR COUNTRY AND DENOUNCE CRIMINAL THUG BIDEN FOR ATTEMPTING TO DESTROY OUR MILITARY, AND HIS EXISTENCE IN THE WHITE HOUSE.

MY DAD, STILL ALIVE IS 98. A DECORATED WORLD WAR TWO VETERAN. SERVED  IN THE EUROPEAN ARENA. SURVIVED THE BATTLE OF MONTE CASSINO. HE IS SICKENED BY THE LEFT WING SOCIALIST MARXISM.

It's safe to say without fear of contradiction zarHO is delusional, detached and in denial.

Wipe your ass with a Confederate flag this weekend.

Burn a trump flag.

All very patriotic things to do to remember our soldiers.

Because neither of the other 2 flags or ideals are what they fought for.

Let your German Shepherd piss on the trump 2020 sign in your neighbors yard.

I really need to get a picture of him doing that.

It could be the best meme ever.
