How can GOP deny, excuse and minimize the Jan 6th insurrection?

Recommended Posts

On January 6th of this year, Donald Trump told a group of his own rioting supporters to  walk down to the capitol building and "take back" America because the Senate was about to certify that Joe Biden had truthfully and formally won the 2020 presidential election.

During this provoked riot, people lost their lives, were injured, government property was destroyed , lives of our chosen legislators were threatened ( a noose was brought to hang them)  and several items were stolen from legislators, offices ransacked and violent chaos ensued.  Our legislators had to hide from the rioters to save their own lives.  Since when is ANY OF THIS NOT CONSIDERED CRIMINAL ACTIVITY?

Why do Republicans insist on stopping a federal investigation?

Can anyone rationalize or explain this to me?

Didn't you know antifa was the people responsible for all the violence and injuries and death that happened that day? Our nation is clearly divided now and the people pushing this agenda either refuse to see the damage its causing or simply don't care and think they would be better off in a war torn country as long as they have assault rifles and thousands of rounds they think that will be the answer to their dreams.

Law enforcement is still doing its job.  Federal criminal investigations, arrests, and prosecutions have not been stopped.  Over 400 people have been arrested and charged (Yahoo says 500).

CBS News:  Around 440 defendants have been arrested in the federal investigation, the Justice Department said on May 6, and CBS News has reviewed court documents for 430 cases that have been unsealed. Of those, at least 175 defendants were also indicted by grand juries.

More than 125 defendants have been charged with assaulting, resisting or impeding officers or employees, and at least 35 of those were charged with using a deadly or dangerous weapon, the Department of Justice said.

On the other hand, politicians are not doing their jobs.   In Washington today, most politicians (of both parties) only want investigations that make the other party look bad.  They're absolutely opposed to any investigation that would embarrass their own party, no matter how serious the issue.  That's what partisanship gets us.
