WSJ’s Post-Election Analysis of Bellwether Counties Shows a Clear Presidential Winner and It’s Not Close

A post-election analysis of bellwether counties – that is, the 19 counties around the country that have consistently picked the winner of presidential races with extremely rare exceptions over the past century – once again clearly picked one candidate over another this year.

And it wasn’t Joe Biden.

… snip …

The Wall Street Journal found only on county anomaly among the bellwether districts:

America has become so polarized that presidential bellwether counties—those that consistently back the national winner, switching between parties in the process—are nearing extinction.

From 1980 through 2016, 19 of the nation’s more than 3,000 counties voted for the eventual president in every election. Only one of them, Washington state’s Clallam County, backed President-elect Joe Biden last week.

Other counties that had been bellwethers all the way back to the 1950s ended their runs by backing President Trump instead of the Democrat.

Indiana’s Vigo County was the most prominent to fall from the list, after previously siding with the White House winner in all 16 elections since 1956. Since 1888, Vigo now has three presidential misses: 2020, 1952 and 1908.

Valencia County, New Mexico, had backed every winner since 1952, but part of it was partitioned in 1981 to create a new county, making a comparison difficult. Like Vigo, it backed Mr. Trump this year.

“It’s a reflection of the overall trend that we are seeing toward greater geographic polarization,” David Hopkins, a political-science professor at Boston College, told the paper. “There are more and more places in this country that are consistently red or blue, so there are fewer and fewer counties that swing back and forth from election to election.”

With that in mind, here’s another interesting stat the WSJ found:

Election results compiled by the Associated Press show only 2.5% of the nation’s counties flipped from one party in 2016 to the other in 2020. For most of those that did flip, it was by small margins.

Of course, President Trump won the 2016 election; thus, if so few counties flipped this year to another candidate, how is that Joe Biden is currently ahead by an electoral blowout?

It just doesn’t seem possible. What also seems implausible is that suddenly, this year, so many of the remaining bellwether counties could have gotten the national election wrong.

President Trump has said if he winds up losing fair and square, of course he’ll concede and he’ll engage in the peaceful transition of power. But he’s not at all convinced – and neither are we – that he did ‘lose fair and square.’

This new analysis makes it even hard to believe that he lost.

Just another clear indication that the democRATS cheated ... rigged the election …
