Jun 14, 2020 · Obama served one term in the Illinois Senate and is the first African American President of the United States. As if this writing Barack Obama's net worth is $70 million

Ain't America Great?   But now that the Obama's got their piece of the pie, I guess they want to make sure noone else can.

If every dollar was distributed equally, in no time, the haves would probably have it back, and the have nots would probably be back to square one.  Myself, I've always done my best to be a minimalist. Enough is a feast. I have a dependable vehicle, the roof don't leak, nobody is hungry, and most important, the grandkids are healthy. Just how much more is necessary? It's a very short trip. I guess there are those who will be able to afford a more expensive funeral than me.

What does you being a minimalist have to do with anything?

I am content; makes it much easier to simply live. It's s short trip, and I will not be consumed by material things. Every second behind you is a second you cannot recover. The clock is wound but once. Use the time wisely.

So pretty much since day one.

pretty much. John had more than Jacob. But Jacob can not simply accept this. He is jealous but has to rationalize it so that he does not come off as being jealous, petty, or immature. Jacob comes up something about the system, John being lucky (inheriting wealth), etc.

I guess the man was keeping Jacob down.

"minimalist" does not describe Jimbo

No one wants to divide all assets equally. What is needed is to make it easier for poorer people to get ahead on their own volition. Perhaps Andrew Yang's plan might work.

The comment I highlighted indicates to me you have trouble differentiating between income and wealth.

This thread is about how wealth is distributed...not about differences in income.

Must be. Jacob cant simply accept that not one everyone is equal in terms of intelligence and motivation. Yes, there is some luck involved but that's pretty minimal.

Mike Bloomberg started will a lot less than Trump but made a lot more. Still, his presidential attempt was a miserable failure. He was rarely sued, and Bloomberg's accomplishments are far more useful than Trump's casinos and other crap.

Was he too Jewish? Too short?   Was it because Trump had better hair or arm candy?

I am not in favor of dividing Bloomberg's fortune with Trump so they are equally rich, do not get me wrong

Wealth is related to income.

Tax wealth, then. Tax wealth above $50 million at 2%.

There! QED.

No...it isn't.  Just as I expected...you know little about wealth and how it is accumulated.  Let's take a hypothetical situation.  A father decides to give his son a, for him splurge,  birthday gift of 2,000 shares of Apple stock in 1984 (worth $800).  He does it hoping it will cause his son to "change his ways" because he doesn't own any assets (like a home) and spends every penny he earns.  The only good thing is his son has zero debt.  So, after the gift, the son is worth $800 (his wealth).  Fast forward 35 years to his birthday in 2019.  The son still doesn't own anything else (rents, doesn't have a car, nothing), doesn't owe anyone a penny and still doesn't save a penny of what he earns.  However, he still has that Apple stock.  Only now, it is worth $559,720.  How much the son made in income each of those 35 years is completely irrelevant.  He still doesn't have a penny of savings, but his wealth has grown 69,965% in the last 35 years.

Better introduce a Constitutional Amendment...fast.

Wednesday on her new podcast, former First Lady Michelle Obama called the coronavirus pandemic an opportunity to think about “how wealth is distributed.”

“And that’s something that we need to, that’s a part of that reflection, that we need to do, you know. With ourselves, and, and as a community,” Michelle mused.

“And we have to think about that, in terms of how wealth is distributed. You know, how, how these essential people are supported. And what does that mean? A lot of these people are broke. They don’t have health insurance.” She added that “We have to think about the people who are not from this country, who are essential workers” too, and that we can’t make budget cuts or poor kids won’t get school lunches.

Later she stated condescendingly and self-righteously, “Always with great opposition, because you’re asking people to sacrifice, to give up, things that, that they think they deserve, that they’re entitled to for the sake of the greater good.”

She and her radical Marxist husband are worth an estimated $70 million. How much of that does she think they’re entitled to, and how much are they giving to illegal alien essential workers for the greater good?

Instead of her thinking how about she lead by example?   Give your money away
