  • President Donald Trump on Saturday signed a series of executive orders expanding coronavirus economic relief to Americans struggling during the pandemic.
  • The president's orders extend unemployment benefits — cut from $600-$400 — provide a payroll tax holiday.
  • Defer student loan payments through 2020 and extend the federal moratorium on evictions.
  • Trump will extend the unemployment bonus at a reduced level of $400 per week, instead of the $600 per week federal unemployment insurance that was approved in March and expired at the end of July.

The good:  Stimulus relief for the people.  Deferred tuition & evictions.

The bad:  $200 less for people struggling at $600.

The ugly:  Cuts to social security & medicare via pay roll tax “holiday”.

Yep. Can't wait for pelosi to go on camera complaining about it. That will play well in the coming campaign ads.    Another game won by the chessmaster.

The bad. Trump does not have the authority to do this.

And one might add it remains to be seen if tramp even has the authority to make these moves. The authority to allocate spending is in the hands of Congress, not the White House.

Many Americans Are Getting More Money From Unemployment Than They Were From Their Jobs. ... uses government data from 2019 to estimate that 68 percent of unemployed workers who can receive benefits are eligible for payments that are greater than their lost earnings.

Did you know we were paying MOST people more to sit on their fat asses at home than to work? It should have been cut to $200 or nothing....

Did Obama's long tax holiday cause cuts to social security and medicare? Or will this just happen under Trump?

You fucking partisan piece of shit. You're just mad Trump actually did something to help the American people instead of congress trying to line their pockets with as much pork as they could.

Fuck you. You're a piece of shit and a drag on society.

All he needs to do is use the National Emergency Act.  That law authorizes him to redirect previously appropriated funds.

I’m sure demonrats remember losing in court (several times) fighting redirecting funds for the wall.

This is a political stunt by the infector in cheif. In order to benefit from a payroll tax, which defunds Social Security and Medicare, one needs to be on a payroll. If they can't go back to their job, the only ones getting screwed are seniors who depend on SS and Medicare. He's not taking care of anyone, in fact, he's screwing himself and he's too dumb to know it. And you're so dumb, you cheer anything the moron does.

Democrats will have a heyday making him defend the defundung of Social Security.

You recognize the financial turmoil you place people with if you deny them financial assistance NOW when they can’t pay bills they once could afford.  It just means you’ll be taking care of them later on down the line.

That’s why trump also had to defer mortgages/rent.   You can’t say here’s $200 ... make it work out.  You’re just setting up borrowers & lenders to fail at that point.

Every financial action the gov’t makes has recoils.  Transactions are cyclical.

Obama's payroll tax holiday was financed by the stimulus bill. It did not in any way cut funding from SS or Medicare. Dumbass

Payroll tax is a great benefit for employers on the cusp of hiring, but not making enough to go full tilt...

the $200 less is bad for those who don't have a job to go back to, but good for employers whose employees were making more on unemployment...

Excellent program for eviction/tuition...

The President had to do something, fucking lugosi and shithead schumer are idiots...their fucking posturing over monies not even allocated strictly related to Covid is treasonous...there's like 3-400bn unspent dollars from the initial bailout to be used and they're all worried about a new FBI headquarters, etc...they're fucking assholes at best...and don't give a shit about affected Americans...

I wonder if he's using the unspent 3-400 bn remaining from the first round of stimulus...

That's right, the $600 was from the feds and is  above and beyond what the states are paying out for benefits...
