Recommended Posts

This is intended to be a constructive thread to pool together ideas on how Black People can learn to be better Americans.  Any thoughts?

(sorry for violating my commitment to only post one topic, as stated in my other topic in this room.  Oh well,

Same as any other Americans.

Fathers - to Teach them, or to beat it into them, if necessary.

Even George Washington and Thomas Jefferson got an ass-woopin' from pop now and then.

Steer clear of leftist group-think and live life well and conservatively.

(no malice or resentment is meant to be portrayed in the previous statement).

I fear that black people can never be Americans since Americans are white and the history of America is white therefore back people cannot be Americans.  Your thought, black people?

And I am deeply sorry that we brought you here in chains like animals but so many backs are behaving today as animals that maybe those whites who did so were correct, blacks really are animals good only as slaves?  Your thoughts, black people?

There are, and have been, so many great black Americans.

And not just the well known prophets like Thomas Sowell and Walter E. Williams.

Herman Cain and Ben Carson come to mind.

Read their histories.

Parents that turned their backs on Democrat National Socialism - to face and pursue the American Dream - is the common thread.

Ben Carson was raised by a Welfare Queen.  Want to try again?

Ben Carson experienced periods of poverty in his youth, and his family intermittently relied on government assistance (primarily food stamps).

Read your history and try again.

I'll nominate Larry Elder as another great American who happens to be negro.

Apologies for slow response.

*1. Yes, you are correct.

As a black man (american), I can say one adhering to conservative values and making good decisions, gives one the best chance to achieve whatever is endeavored to do.

This is the best place to get it done.

Pengwin, just because she was a welfare queen, (or if she was), does not mean that she did not instill into her son the type of work ethic necessary for her son to succeed.  ....a step away from govt dependence at a different generation.

......looking at Mr Carson- something happened here.....

...and it didn't include waiting on an outside source (like the govt) to make his situation better.

Exactly.   That would make a good thread.

In my opinion, 'good American' is a 'good human being'.  A person's political views, religion, national origin, skin color, or (whatever PC term has taken the place of sexual orientation) do not automatically qualify them for membership.  Neither are they disqualifying.

A good American

... respects and cares for other Americans, even when they're wrong, even when they make mistakes, even when they're lazy or greedy.  These people aren't all bad and you're not perfect.  Really, this is the only indispensable rule.  All the others are derived from this.

... respects the Americans who came before.  These people lived in different times and faced different challenges.  They didn't have the same advantages that we have and yet they laid the foundation for all that we have today, both good and bad.  They weren't perfect, but they did a hell of a job.

... is willing to work.  The world doesn't owe them anything.

... protects the weak.  They will not let a fellow American go hungry, live without shelter, or withhold medical care.   There, but for the grace of God, go I.

... does not steal, loot, destroy or otherwise impair the property of others.

... will not cheat others.   They do not defraud, scam, take advantage of, or otherwise mistreat, even when these actions are legal.

... plays by the rules, obeys laws (even the ones they don't agree with), and respects the nation's institutions.  When these laws or institutions have flaws, a good American will work peacefully within the law to make improvements.

... respects merit, logic, facts,  and science, even when they are manifest in opposing political viewpoints.

... does not attempt to silence others.

... has integrity.  Truth is indispensable to the efficient operation of any organization or society.  Good Americans will acknowledge facts, even if they disagree about how those facts should be interpreted.  "A man is only as good as his word." - my father

... recognizes the Constitution as the highest law of the land.  Without the Constitution, our nation is no better than, and might soon become, an autocracy where those in power enact whatever law they want.  The Constitution is not perfect, but it can be amended...peacefully.

... will not stand idly by while others do evil.

  Law-abiding is a major one.

Allowing people to keep what they have worked for, don't take what is not yours.

"taking care of business":   Make your money honestly,  make sure your family is taken care of. (Wife, kids mother and father IF needed).  Work two jobs IF necessary.

Raise your kids the way they SHOULD be raised, NOT the way YOU want to raise them. (you may have to think on that one)

  My opinion!

Is this some sorta joke? You're mortgaging the future of your kids with debt ( some 25 TRILLION) so that current billionaires and mega corporations can escape their tax obligations. Pay up before you open your ignorant con mouth again

Unfortunately, they and many others just need to learn the hard way.    When you are bailed out over and over again after making bad decisions, bad decisions become acceptable.   This is a bit of an exaggeration, but being homeless and starving is a great educational tool and can change work ethic, and force people to make wiser decisions.   Doing so would likely mean losing an entire generation which goes against people's natural compassion for others, but sometimes its better in the long run to let people suffer the consequences of their actions.

Incorrect ... WE never brought not one African to the United States

The Dutch, Spanish, etc were the ones selling slaves, bought from African tribes, who captured them themselves.

Slavery was bad, but far too often the correct history is not shared.

They rationalize their bad decisions by saying that it is society/system/culture. Some truth to that but someone has to finally break the cycle. I come from a poor background and am the only one in the family tree to ever attend college let alone graduate.

First and foremost the ultraliberals could stop teaching / reinforcing that they are victims of a racist society.

They have ample opportunity to make it big if they work hard or get educated and their ancestors paid with their blood, sweat and tears for that chance.
