Hi, I'm new to politics

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm new to politics and am wondering who some good political speakers would be to listen to. So far I've listened to some of the presidential debates, and some videos from a guy named Shapiro. Who else would be good to listen to? Thanks!

If you would like someone on the left side of the spectrum I would say TYT or better known as the The Young Turks is a very good thing to watch this is on YouTube.

Another good one is Sam Seder he does a podcast similar to Ben Shapiro.

Another good one on YouTube is the Rational National, he is a true progressive and I like what he has to say.

Here are the links to the people I mentioned above:

TYT: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1yBKRuGpC1tSM73A0ZjYjQ

Sam Seder:  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-3jIAlnQmbbVMV6gR7K8aQ

Rational National: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCo9oQdIk1MfcnzypG3UnURA

BTW welcome to LF!!!

The Young Turks is a reprehensible Putin-supported vile anti-liberal propaganda outfit of the worst kind. Russian disinformation.

The leader of the Young Turks has a disgusting personal history as a misogynist, an Armenian genocide denier, a promoter of bestiality, and is a long time rightwinger.

Sam Seder is like Ben Shapiro. Two extremist anti-liberal nut-jobs.

Pure poison. I can't believe I'm reading this here.

My two favourite political thinkers are probably Chris Hedges and Adam Curtis (he makes great documentaries)... Hedges is definitely to the left but Adam Curtis is some kind of libertarian. I like them both because they're incredibly bright but also very calm and very rational... they focus on the failures of the west without spoonfeeding anyone any answers.

Noam Chomsky is another really bright mind who doesn't get emotional or relish every opportunity to mock something as stupid (unlike Shapiro or TYT)... he is just so above it all.

In a way it's like doom porn because they make it all seem really hopeless.. but on the other hand, I think it kinda is.

But really, you can't get a clear perspective from people who feed on their negative emotions too much... it might be fun to read, but a lot of the 'OMG Trump is so dumb' sites end up being more about the outrage or even quasi-comedy and come off as insincere.

I'm wise.

I don't fall for the lies of front-men for Vladamir Putin.

Russia Today is not a source of liberal expression.

Can you please link where TYT is Russia puppets?

TYT is on our side, not the opposite.

They are just a little unorthodox compared to the MSM.

They are a good alternative to the bog-standard CNN or MSNBC.

The network was floated by Russia Today.

TYT is an anti-liberal extremist propaganda outlet. To say they are unorthodox is putting it mildly. Advocating for sex between men and dogs is certainly not mainstream.

TYT is a worthless cesspool led by a vile sexist who denies the Armenian genocide.

Utter rubbish. Zero credibility.

I'd post the answer that totally covers political science & politics, but it's Liberals Only. I'll put it in No Holds Barred.

They make some good points, but they're kinda shrill.

They have a YouTube channel that is really popular and gets trolled a lot.

They are an alternative to the MSM, completely independent without any outside influences.

If you consider yourself "progressive or liberal" I would give it a chance.

They are a little out there at times but they give you the stories with no bullshit attached.

I'm leery of their format.  Who are these young people who suddenly become experts?  What are their backgrounds and qualifications?  I understand dependence on credentials can be be overblown.  But to see all these new, people, making home videos, without the slightest introduction, leaves one wondering.

Can't you make the same point about the people on CNN or MSNBC??

Just because they are rich and powerful does not mean they are credible in there convictions.

Or it makes them a political analyst by buying there way onto the network.

I understand where you are coming from but, the people on the MSM are just as bad when it comes to there political credibility.

It has nothing do with wealth and power.  For instance, I've listened to Rachael Maddow since she was an obscure talking head on the radio and not making much money.  I know exactly where she's coming from and what her agenda is.  With The Young Turks, new people keep popping up who have much to say.  And offentimes, I agree with it.

But who recruits these people.  Uygur?  What kind of organization is it?  Do they get paid or volunteer?  Why does Uygur not use regulars?  What is going on?  Only occassionally does Cenk Uygur make an appearance.   All this mystery does not inspire confidence.  At least in me.

Ok, I understand more now.

And just from the structure at TYT I think Uygur handpicks these new voices to be heard.

It's interesting that although you almost surely watch TYT more than I, you're still unsure of how these new people are picked or whether they get paid or volunteer or how Uygur himself is compensated.   Personally, it bothers me that there's not even a little transparency from Cenk Uygur.  I get the impression of a very authoritarian operation.

Everyone's salary and pay is through the viewers donations and members memberships.

So there is a lot of transparency when it comes to this part of the operation, but when it comes to the hiring I am not sure of where Cenk finds the people he does.

I've never heard of any such thing as a "far-right/far-left" alliance.  I'm on the left and I will align myself with the right on exactly nothing.

Can you post (clear) evidence of it's existence?

I wasn't aware of this video.

I do not agree with Cenk or TYT on 100% of everything.

But compared to the MSM, I agree with TYT more.

They are not a "propaganda" outlet. They are not FOX News.

They tend to tell it like it is and people may or may not like this style of journalism.
