70% of Americans want abortion restrictions

Recommended Posts

Trump is unapologetically pro life. Democrats use to welcome pro life members into their tent, now every single Democrat running supports using tax dollars to pay to terminate unplanned pregnancies. Every single one has said they would strike down the Hyde amendment. Sanders believes abortion is an important tool against global warming and Bootygig believes a baby isn't alive until it takes its first breath. The so called moderate Democrat believes in unrestricted abortion up until birth.

Can Democrats win on a platform rejected by 70% of Americans?

Trump decided that he was against abortion out of sheer opportunism.  Abolishing abortions in the US means nothing to the very rich, as they simply hop on a jet and fly to wherever abortions are legal. A law to abolish abortions costs the government nothing. It is the best way for rightwing bazillionaires to enlist impoverished religious zealots to support wealthy 1%ers. The same is true of gun restrictions.

At least 70% of Americans are AGAINST making all abortions illegal. Most Americans  believe that SOME abortions should be permitted.

The GOP co-opted the Democratic Party's base by latching onto the abortion issue back in the 1970's.  It turned out to be one of the longest levers in the history of politics. Just stand in front of people, say, "I think abortion should be illegal, and my opponent has a more nuanced opinion on the subject," and you'll rake in half the voters no matter what else you do.

It's like Trump at these obscene "Prayer Breakfasts" where they all gather around and he pretends to pray with those phony religious charlatans.

Prayer breakfasts  for politicians are just dumb. in a country where religion and state are separate.

I am surprised no one has thought of Gun Breakfasts.

This is true.

If the government provided free condoms and abortions, as has been done in some European countries, the actual number of abortions would decline.

What with the Internet and online commerce, actually abolishing abortions is impossible. They can be made illegal, just as 3-d printing pistols  and assembling armed drones can be made illegal. But they cannot be made impossible.

When you get past the first trimester the support drops quickly. Tax funded abortion for 9 month old pregnancies? 75%+ are opposed. Most support abortion in cases of rape, incest, or serious threat to the life of the mother. Tax funded abortion up until birth is a very unpopular notion.

Prayer breakfasts for Trump are more than just dumb.  They're absurd.  And offensive.  If an avowed Christian wins the White House and his religious life occasionally shows up onscreen, so be it.  It's not really a problem for me.

But when a whore mongering, porn star fvcking, serial adulterer that brags about grabbing women by the pussy and makes his bones talking sh!t about anyone and everyone...pretends to be religious and stands there while those other huckster "lay their hands on" and they all pretend to believe that horsesh!t just to con the rubes...

...yeah, that fvcking sucks.

Colorado dramatically reduced abortions by educating people and providing contraception to people.  None of the folks supposedly so motivated to reduce abortions likes to brag about that, for some reason.  It's always just a moral finger pointing at some harlot.  Judgement is theirs, sayeth they.

People can feel free to restrict their own abortions.  They simply have no say over someone else's abortion.  Problem solved.

People can feel free to restrict their own use of slavery.  They simply have no say over someone else's use of slavery.  Problem solved

When it comes to denying a human being their humanity and associated inalienable rights it's not a private matter. We are talking about the termination of a human life without due process.
