The IPCC Hid the Decline in Temperatures

There's big money in political climate change...the IPCC hid the decline in temperatures.  It's not the first time climate scientists have hiden or removed climate data to push their political hoax.  Follow the money...and the people who don't adhere to their own claims.  See:  Elitists private jets like Al Gore's. Or Obama's Ocean front property. It's all fake!

You poor deranged, delusional, reality-challenged denier cult retards! You are so hilariously insane.

In the real world.....

2019 was the second hottest year on record.

The last six years were the hottest six years on record.

The last decade was the hottest decade on record.

Every decade since the 1960's has been hotter than the decade before.

According to NASA, 2019 Was the Second Hottest Year on Record

anomaly-1024x636.jpgThis plot shows yearly temperature anomalies from 1880 to 2019, with respect to the 1951-1980 mean, as recorded by NASA, NOAA, the Berkeley Earth research group, the Met Office Hadley Centre (UK), and the Cowtan and Way analysis. Though there are minor variations from year to year, all five temperature records show peaks and valleys in sync with each other. All show rapid warming in the past few decades, and all show the past decade has been the warmest. - Credits: NASA GISS/Gavin Schmidt

The decade that just ended is clearly the warmest decade on record,” said Goddard Institute for Space Studies Director Gavin Schmidt. “Every decade since the 1960s clearly has been warmer than the one before.

We crossed over into more than 2 degrees Fahrenheit warming territory in 2015 and we are unlikely to go back. This shows that what’s happening is persistent, not a fluke due to some weather phenomenon: we know that the long-term trends are being driven by the increasing levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere,” Schmidt said.

Scientists compare global temperatures to a mean temperature from 1951 to 1980. Compared to that mean, the global temperature was 0.98 degrees Celsius (1.8 Fahrenheit) higher.

Humanity’s CO2 emissions are driving the Earth’s warming. Other greenhouse gases like methane are contributing, too, as are some natural processes. But the data is clear: we are driving the warming of the Earth and our emissions are still rising.

And according to all that data we’re on a runaway train.

When you account for urbanization near data collection points the observed "anomaly" has leveled off or decreased.

Urban 'heat island' effect is only a small contributor to global warming, say Stanford researchers

Heat emanating from cities – called the "urban heat island" effect – is not a significant contributor to global warming, Stanford researchers have found.

Stanford University Report

October 19, 2011

BY LOUIS BERGERON

"This study shows that the urban heat island effect is a relatively minor contributor to warming, contrary to what climate skeptics have claimed," said Mark Z. Jacobson, a professor of civil and environmental engineering.

Cities release more heat to the atmosphere than the rural vegetated areas around them, but how much influence these urban "heat islands" have on global warming has been a matter of debate. Now a study by Stanford researchers has quantified the contribution of the heat islands for the first time, showing that it is modest compared with what greenhouse gases contribute to global warming.

"Between 2 and 4 percent of the gross global warming since the Industrial Revolution may be due to urban heat islands," said Mark Z. Jacobson, a professor of civil and environmental engineering who led the study. He and graduate student John Ten Hoeve compare this with the greenhouse gas contribution to gross warming of about 79 percent and the black carbon contribution of about 18 percent.

Black carbon is a component of the soot created by burning fossil fuels and biofuels and is highly efficient at absorbing sunlight, which heats the atmosphere.

Gross global warming is the total amount of warming that has taken place from all sources, mainly greenhouse gases, black carbon particles and heat islands. Net global warming is gross global warming minus the cooling effect of light-colored atmospheric particles that reflect sunlight back into space, which offsets about half of global warming to date.  Net, or observed, global warming is what is typically reported in the media.

Responding to skeptics

Jacobson and Ten Hoeve are authors of a paper describing the research that will be published in Journal of Climate. The paper is available online now. The study modeled climate response from 2005 to 2025.

Some global warming skeptics have claimed that the urban heat island effect is so strong that it has been skewing temperature measurements that show that global warming is happening. They have argued that urban areas are a larger contributor to global warming than the greenhouse gases produced by human activity, and thus drastic measures to reduce greenhouse gases are not needed.

"This study shows that the urban heat island effect is a relatively minor contributor to warming, contrary to what climate skeptics have claimed," Jacobson said. "Greenhouse gases and particulate black carbon cause far more warming."

Prior to Jacobson's study, claims about the importance of heat island to global warming could not be addressed directly. The few previous modeling studies by other researchers that had examined the effect of urban heat islands on regional scales did not calculate global impacts.

Jacobson's high-resolution study was the first study of the impact of urban heat islands on global sea-surface temperatures, sea ice, atmospheric stability, aerosol concentrations, gas concentrations, clouds and precipitation.  He characterized urban surfaces around the world at a resolution of one kilometer, making his simulation both extremely detailed and globally comprehensive.

"This study accounted not only for local impacts of the heat island effect, but also feedbacks of the effect to the global scale," he said.

Although his study showed that urban heat islands are not major contributors to global warming, Jacobson said reducing the effect of heat islands is still important for slowing the rise of global temperatures.

The urban heat island effect is caused mostly by replacing soil and vegetation with paved roads, sidewalks and buildings. Paving prevents evaporation of water from the soil and plant leaves. Since evaporation is a cooling process, reducing evaporation warms cities. Additionally, the darker colors of some roads and buildings absorb more sunlight, heating a city further.

One way to reduce emissions while simultaneously reducing summer air conditioning demand is to install photovoltaic panels on roofs. Such panels not only generate electricity, reducing emissions of fossil fuels from electricity-producing power plants, but they also reduce sunlight absorbed by buildings because they convert sunlight to electricity. Because photovoltaic panels do not reflect the sunlight back to the air, unlike white roofs, reflected light is not available to be absorbed again by pollutants in the air, creating heat.

Strawman. Urban island's are not a significant contributor to global warming but they are a significant contributor to monitoring data collection points. Enough to fully mitigate any observed warming in areas where urbanization has overtaken a data collection point.

Just more denier cult bullshyt, lacking any evidence to support it. Just like your whole bullshyt thread, and all the rest of your denier cult lies and anti-science propaganda that is sponsored and created by the fossil fuel industry. There has been no "decline in temperatures", as my earlier post clearly demonstrated. Nor has the urban heat island effect significantly skewed the scientific records of Earth's rising temperature trends.

Tangential issue. Data collection points being surrounded by urbanization are indeed giving false data on temperature increases.

LOL!

pogorocks keeps posting charts that DISPROVE the AGWalamist meme.

Ask him why the temperature level seemed to decline from 1800 to 1910?

CO2 was going up.

Better yet, ask him why the temperature level rose from 1910 to 1945  at the same rate it's been rising since 1975, according to his chart?

CO2 was going up, but not nearly as fast as now and the CO2 level was only about 3/4ths of what it now is.

Isn't the rate of temperature increase supposed to be affected by both parameters?

And what about from 1945 to 1975?

Ask him why the temperatures where dropping when CO2 levels were rising almost at the modern rate and the level was even higher than from 1910 to 1945?

Ask him why the temperatures suddenly go up in the 70s, right when the AGWscientist alarmist community began manipulating the temperature stations.

For example, they significantly reduced the number of stations and eliminated most stations in rural and high altitude areas.

AGWscientists claimed they could derive those temperatures from what was left.

But they won't show the algorithms they used to do this.

Ask him why the ground based temperature measurements suddenly diverged from the satellite measurements ... being higher than the former.

And I could go on asking you to ask him questions like these.

But I know he wouldn't answer them for you any more than he has for me.

He RUNS every time.

LOL!   pogorocks continues to claim that urban heating has no effect on the temperature database.

But EVERY TIME I've tried to discuss the topic  rationally, by showing examples where it clearly does, he RUNS.

For example, this (from http://www.climate-skeptic.com/category/temperature-measurement/page/3 ) is data from a temperature measurement station ...

lampasas_tx_ushcn_plot.png

This temperature station in Lampassas, Texas.

It was part of the USHCN and GISS data base (meaning it was part of the official global warming record).

Here's what the station looked like (Anthony Watt went out and took pictures) ...

lampasas_tx_ushcn.jpg

As the link notes, "the temperature instrument is in the white louvred cylindar in the center.  This installation is wrong in so many ways:  in the middle of a urban heat island, near asphalt, next to a building, near car radiators, near air conditioning unit exhausts.  Could we possibly expect this unit to read correctly?"   And as pointed out in the link, the USHCN data base says that this station moved there in the year 2000 ... just when the temperatures suddenly went up (see the data plot above).   But instead of considering the possibility that it had to do with the move, the GISS (NASA) called THIS global warming.  You see what I mean, folks?   This is the sort of data that pogorocks and his *sources* simply ignore

But it gets worse.   The link goes on to note that "James Hansen and others at the GISS defend this station and others to the death.  In fact, the GISS extrapolates tem[pera]ture trends not only for Lampassas but for hundreds of kilometers around this location from this one station.  Hansen has opposed Anthony Watt’s efforts to do a photo-survey of these stations, saying that his sophisticated statistical models can correct for such station biases without even seeing the station."  Then the link shows how Hansen adjusted the temperatures at this station to correct for the OBVIOUS siting problems with it.   Here was Hanson's *adjustment* for the temperatures at this station:

lampasas_giss_rawhomogen.png

The link I provided above then notes ...

Quote

According to the GISS, the temperatures since 2000 have been just fine and without any bias that needs correcting.  However, they seem to think that the temperature measurement in Lampassas in the 1920′s and1930′s (when Lampassas was a one horse town with no urbanization) was biased upwards somehow.  Why?  Well, we don’t know, but based on this adjustment, the GISS thinks this site has LESS urbanization today in this picture than in 1900.   The GISS adjustments have INCREASED the warming seen at this site.

See the problem here, folks?

Can it be any clearer that NASA AGWscientists  have been deliberately tampering with the temperature measurements to ENHANCE AGW claims?

Can it be any clearer that urban heating is indeed raising the temperatures that AGWalarmists are feeding a gullible public to justify their AGWalarmist hysteria?

Here are some more observations about Hansen's/NASA's so-called temperature "adjustments" for heat island effects:

http://www.globalwarmingclassroom.info/us_heat_island_error.htm

Quote

NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), led by Dr. James Hansen, has attempted to remove the heat island effect through a series of equations. The GISS produced a graph that looked  similar to the rural (red) line above, but still showed the late 1990s and 2000s to be the warmest in recorded history.

However, two Canadian scientists discovered an error in the GISS adjustments. The error was small and NASA immediately corrected it. Once corrected, the late 1990s and 2000s were no longer the warmest period in US history. The warmest period was in the 1930s and 40s, with 1934 being the warmest year on record, and 1998 the second warmest. Six of the ten hottest years occurred in the 1920s-50s, while only four have occurred in the 1990s and 2000s.

Scientists are becoming increasingly alarmed over the statistical messaging of US data by NASA's GISS led by Dr. James Hansen. The 2007 error is not the only questionable data that Hansen has released the past few years. Each time Hansen announces that the GISS has discovered a better way to statistically modify actual US ground temperatures, warming becomes even more pronounced and any cooling less pronounced.

For instance,  a comparison of the data compiled by the Historical Climatology Network (USHCN), for Santa Rosa, California show a cooling trend since 1900, while the same data after Hansen's GISS applies their top secret statistical adjustment shows a warming! USHCN measures temperature by taking daily readings from an immobile temperature station. GISS compiles its reports by collecting the USHCN temperature readings and then subjecting them to secret adjustments, allegedly to correct for artificial influences such as land-use changes. Hansen is the scientist who raised the alarm about global warming in 1988 and has been an extremely outspoken proponent of man-caused global warming every since. So much so that he has said that any company or scientist that does not agree with him should be prosecuted for crimes against humanity. More and more scientists are saying that this kind of demagoguery has no place in science. Certainly not in a person who is in charge of the United States temperature data and refuses to let any other scientist review his data adjusting equations. It is so bad, that the US Senate Committee on Public Works notes that Hansen's former NASA Supervisor, Dr. John Theon that Hansen is an embarrassment to NASA.

This concern lead some scientists to actually plot the USHCN data for the entire United States and compare it against the NOAA/GISS adjusted data. The comparison is shocking. The unadjusted data clearly show that the warming in the last quarter of the twentieth century in the US is substantially less than the 1930-1945 period than the GISS adjusted data would have us believe. The GISS adjustments increase the temperatures of the 1975 to 2000 period and reduce the temperatures of the 1930 to 1945 period.

Even Forbes has an article discussing the obvious problem with what AGWalarmist temperature measurement gatekeepers have been doing  ...

Quote

More Global Warming Alarmist Games: Doctoring The Temperature Record

… snip …

The reason these retroactive adjustments occur and always inflate the raw data to give the appearance of increased global warming is because partisans like James Hansen are assigned by the federal government to oversee, adjust, and then report on the surface temperature data. Specifically how do such biases show up in the data? Partisans adjust the raw data to make it seem like there was a greater urban heat island effect in New York City 100 years ago, when the city held only 5 million people and industrialization was in its infancy, than there is today when the city holds 8 million people and gasoline and electric-powered machinery creates still more artificial warming.

The raw New York City data show less than 2 degrees warming since 1910. Common sense tells us much of that warming is likely due to the increase in population and heat-producing machinery and activities. The global warming partisans who oversee and report the data, however, have adjusted the New York City data upward, rather than downward, to claim the city has warmed nearly 3 degrees since 1910.

So you see, pogorocks and his sources are outright lying about the urban island effects.

I say that in pg's case because all of this has been pointed to him and his ilk previously.

He hasn't ONCE even tried to prove it wrong.

He just ignores whatever data and facts are posts, spews some ad hominems, then flees ...

... only to reappear on another thread making the same bogus claims.

That's what TRUTHERS do.

Just saying ...
