Noting the extreme popularity of the stereotypical Kwik-E-Mart owner, Apu, for Fox viewers, the decision has been made to remove the character from the show. The creative producers feel he apparently feeds some viewer's biases.

Since comic Hari Kondabolu interrogated the stereotypical characterization of The Simpsons’ Apu Nahasapeemapetilon in a 2017 documentary, fans of the show have debated whether it’s worth it to keep the Kwik-E-Mart owner around. The show itself even made an episode that directly addressed the controversy, though it wasn’t received well by critics. While Hank Azaria, who voices the South Asian character, has been amenable to discussions around recasting Apu. But, last we heard, there were rumors that producers were planning to axe the character entirely to “avoid the controversy.”

Whether that happens is still unclear, but Azaria himself confirmed to /Film at a TCA panel for IFC’s Brockmire that he will no longer be voicing Apu. “All we know there is I won’t be doing the voice anymore, unless there’s some way to transition it or something,” Azaria said.

He continued, “What they’re going to do with the character is their call. It’s up to them and they haven’t sorted it out yet. All we’ve agreed on is I won’t do the voice anymore.” He added that it was a mutual decision. “We all agreed on it. We all feel like it’s the right thing and good about it.”

Fox Television tells us there is “no comment” from the show.

Finally an issue I'm passionate about.

Let's compare Apu to Homer.

Education: Apu, degree in computer science. Homer, barely graduated from high school.

Family: Apu, dedicated father of eight. Homer, has to be reminded he has three children, not two.

Work: Apu, owns his own store and never goes on vacation. Homer, thinks Thursday is the start of the weekend.

Apu - loses his job and livelihood because of PC ass-douche Adolescent Socialist Malcontents like you.

Homer - has an award-winning multi-decade show that makes PC ass-douche Adolescent Socialist Malcontents like you look like the congenital retards you are.

Ha!

Both Apu and Homer are comic stereotypes. The difference is that Indians get mocked for resembling Apu in any possible way, and in real life no one mocks useless White guys for resembling Homer (or for that manner, Ned Flanders, Chief Wiggums, Principal Skinner or a number of other stereotypes).  The show avoids potentially more sensitive stereotypes. Who can remember which of Homer's pals is Carl and which is Lenny?

Is Homer a good role model for white males?

He once woke up early Saturday morning to rush to the Moe's Bar to get so drunk he couldn't drive his kids around for Saturday activities.

You are an even bigger moron than I could h@ve ever imagined

Cons are always causing trouble for the Simpsons.

The Bush-Simpson feud began began in 1990, when then First Lady Barbara Bush fired the first shot. Mrs. Bush told reporters that 'The Simpsons is the dumbest thing I have ever seen!' This unprovoked attack did not go unnoticed by the producers of The Simpsons. A few days later, an angry letter was sent to Mrs. Bush signed by Marge Simpson defending herself and her family. Two weeks later, Mrs. Bush apologized to the Simpsons and to Marge personally for 'my loose tongue.'
However, that wasn't the end. The Bush-Simpson feud was just warming up! At the Republican National Convention in 1992, George Bush Sr. told the delegates and the world that 'We need a nation closer to the Waltons than to the Simpsons!'

Matt Groening's reaction was: 'Of course you know that this means war!' Just 2 days after Mr. Bush's speech, the very next episode of The Simpsons opened with The Simpsons in their living room watching television. President Bush could be seen on the TV criticising The Simpsons for not being more like The Waltons. Bart turned to the camera and said 'Hey, we're just like the Waltons. We're praying for an end to the depression too.'

The feud picked up again in 1996 in an episode of The Simpsons in which George and Barbara Bush move to Springfield and into the house directly across the street from The Simpsons. Although Barbara Bush and Marge Simpson got along with each other fairly well, Homer Simpson and George Bush became instant enemies.

Things got worse after Bart accidentally destroyed George Bush's memoirs, and Bush gave Bart a spanking. Upon learning of the spanking, an enraged Homer declared war on George Bush: 'First, Bush invades my home turf. Now he steals my right to raise a disobedient, smart-alecky son!' Homer yelled at Bush: 'You are a wimp!'
But Homer wasn't the only one who was mad. George Bush was also mad. He threatened Homer with: 'I'm going to ruin you like a Japanese banquet.' (A reference to the time that George Bush threw up on the Prime Minister of Japan while he was president.)
Relations between George Bush and the Simpsons continued to deteriorate until the Bushes left Springfield.

true. but you could also say homer was a stereotype of the white, male, blue collar dunce. you can find hundreds of stereotype characters

in tv and movies. apu's stereotype is just as comical as homer's. it's comedy. removing apu is actually an insult to people's intelligence, as

is all forms of censorship.

I know an Indian family and of course recent immigrants speak with an accent--like Apu.

But Apu was probably the most moral person on the show.

Carl is the black guy.

Then you are an exception. Carl and Lenny are non-racial chums.

Black vs White racism is absent from the Simpsons. Certainly a wise choice.

I cannot recall any Black men ever named Lenny. Lenny is short for Leonard.

Black men do not tend to use nicknames ending in "ny". Lenny, Kenny, Benny, Manny.UNcle Ben was never a Benny, I am sure.
