After Another Year of Trump Attacks, ‘Ominous Signs’ for the American Press

Recommended Posts

On Twitter, President Trump deployed the phrase “fake news” 273 times this year — 50 percent more often than he did in 2018. He demanded “retribution” over a “Saturday Night Live” sketch, declared that Washington Post reporters “shouldn’t even be allowed on the grounds of the White House,” and accused The New York Times of “Treason.”

He's temporarily removed exactly one journalist from the press core. Acosta got his pass temporarily revoked for being a consistent cocksucker and breaking decorum. He got his pass back. Let's compare that to Obama, who literally wiretapped journalists he thought were disloyal.

Mr. Trump’s vilification of the news media is a hallmark of his tenure and a jagged break from the norms of his predecessors: Once a global champion for the free press, the presidency has become an inspiration to autocrats and dictators who ape Mr. Trump’s cry of “fake news.”

Everyone but Trump did something wrong. You have no morals.

Holding the media to a very low journalistic standard is hardly autocratic. Hardly an attack on the press. They should cover the news without such obvious bias and contempt, it's destroying their objectivity and thus their integrity.

You are extremely uninformed. You are the victim.

Trump praised a US Congressman for beating up a journalist--after he was convicted!

I don't recall a journalist being beaten up. I do recall Congressional Republicans getting shot at a softball game due in part to the constant barrage of anti Trump rhetoric spewing from CNN.

Donald Trump praises Gianforte for assault on Guardian reporter

Donald Trump has praised Greg Gianforte, the Congress member from Montana, for violently attacking a Guardian reporter, saying that someone who performs a body slam is “my guy”.

Trump described in glowing terms the physical assault that occurred on 24 May 2017 when Ben Jacobs, the Guardian’s political correspondent, asked Gianforte a question about healthcare policy in the course of a special congressional election in Montana. The US president incited cheers and chants from a crowd of about 8,000 supporters on Thursday night when he said: “Greg is smart. And by the way, never wrestle him. You understand. Never.”

So he made a joke about a congressman body slamming an annoying journalist. He was charged and the journalist didn't suffer any serious injuries. Not seeing that as earth shattering.

Now post the literally thousands of lies and untruths that the media has thrown his way in the last 3 years ....quoting Dem politicians and Senators or during their opinionated circle jerks...

Do you have it in you to be fair ....

Where's the lie? Journalist got body slammed and Congressman was charged with assault. President didn't use any power to influence the charges. Reporter wasn't seriously injured. It's a non story. Not exactly a secret that Trump dislikes disrespectful reporters, he's never retaliated.

According to leftwinger journalists are not human and should be untouchable and above the law.
