The Rise of Young Black Conservatives

:...What I know is this: Some 400 young blacks recently gathered in D.C., where they heard criticism of Democrats, liberals and the left. Speakers such as former Turning Point Communications Director Candace Owens, now a podcast host for Prager University, questioned blacks' overwhelming allegiance to the Democratic Party, arguing that the party pushes the narrative of systemic, structural and institutional racism for power and votes. After I spoke, young person after young person came up to me and said things like, "You introduced me to economics professors Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams," and, "because of you and your books and videos, I began to question the horrible things I was taught about the 'racist' Republican Party."

..."These young people did not think of themselves as victims. They recognized their good fortune as Americans living in a country of opportunity where their own future will be bright if they work hard. In my speech, I quoted black liberal Harvard sociology professor Orlando Patterson, who 28 years ago wrote: "The sociological truths are that America, while still flawed in its race relations ... is now the least racist white-majority society in the world; has a better record of legal protection of minorities than any other society, white or black; offers more opportunities to a greater number of black persons than any other society, including all those of Africa."...

"This past weekend, I spoke for the second time at the second annual Black Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C., hosted by Turning Point USA. Turning Point was founded in 2012 by then-18-year-old Charlie Kirk. Its website describes its goal as seeking "to identify, educate, train, and organize students to promote the principles of freedom, free markets, and limited government."   wankin.gif

Mia love was one

Love was challenged by Salt Lake County Mayor, Democrat Ben McAdams in 2018. In June 2018, CNN stated that the race was considered "consequential to both parties" because Love had "stood up to [President Donald Trump] on immigration" and "because national Democrats [saw] McAdams as one of their best chances to gain a foothold on red turf."[46]

For several months prior to the election, the match had been rated as a tossup by FiveThirtyEight,[47]RealClearPolitics,[48] and the Cook Political Report[49] Two polls performed in October showed McAdams and Love tied, with either 45% or 46% support each, and remaining respondents undecided.[47]

For two weeks after the election, the race was too close to call but McAdams was declared the winner on November 20, 2018, defeating Love by 694 votes. The margin was .258%, barely over the .25% threshold that would have permitted Love to request a recount.[50]

In her concession speech, Love was critical of President Donald Trump, saying he had "no real relationships, just convenient transactions." She also criticized the Republican Party for having a "transactional" relationship with minority voters. Love's comments came after a news conference in which Trump mocked Love, even before all the ballots had been counted. He said "Mia Love gave me no love, and she lost."[51][52]

Mia Love was smart enough to have an accurate opinion of Trump, which Trump used as yet another pretense to demonstrate what a self-obsessed, incompetent A-hole he is.
