Former FBI Director James Comey said Fox News canceled a scheduled interview after a report by the Department of Justice Inspector General vindicated the investigation into President Donald Trump.

“I offered to go on Fox & Friends to answer all questions,” Comey tweeted on Monday.

“I can’t change their viewers on Donald Trump but hoped to give them some actual facts about the FBI,” he explained.

“They booked me for tomorrow at 8 am. They just cancelled (sic). Must have read the report,” he suggested.

Comey discussed how the network canceled on him during a Monday interview on MSNBC with Nicolle Wallace.

Vindicated James Comey wants Attorney General Bill Barr to apologize to the FBI and admit he lied

Former FBI Director James Comey took a victory lap after the Inspector General’s report that vindicated neither he nor the FBI “committed treason,” as was claimed by President Donald Trump.

In an MSNBC interview with Nicolle Wallace, Comey said that it’s reassuring that Trump has tried to politicize the FBI, but that he’s been unsuccessful.

He also noted that one of his biggest concerns was that his mother-in-law who was sitting in an assisted living facility watching Fox News was convinced that he was going to jail. He worked to reassure her for years, saying that the report would ultimately become known and he would be exonerated.

“Two years of sitting silently at the FBI while you’re lied about and finally the truth is out. It was lies and the FBI finally has its day with the American people and I hope they pay attention,” said Comey.

Comey also took aim at Attorney General Bill Barr, saying that not only did he make false statements about the FBI, but that he’s continuing to make false statements about the investigations and subsequent report.

“You can blow off what the president says, but what’s hard is when good people believe something when the president of the United States says it,” said Comey. “So you’ve got not just my mother-in-law but millions of people around the country drinking this stuff and believing it. So, having people — forget me — that the FBI committed treason? It is a bad place for this country to be. We all need that institution, and it is a fundamentally good institution.”

When it comes to whether Barr will ever be willing to admit that he ignored probable cause to investigate the president, Comey said that maybe some day, long after both he and Trump are out of office.

“Is there a reasonable basis for opening an investigation? Are there articulable facts?” Comey reiterated the inquiry. “That’s not a close call here. In the Mueller report, you see it laid out. In the Horowitz report, you see it laid out. We should have been fired if we didn’t investigate this. Given what we learned. And whether the attorney general accepts it or not, the truth is a stubborn thing and the FBI in the long-run will be fine, because it’s committed to that.”

He went on to say that it was “very serious” that the attorney general made such false statements about his own investigators when he alleged that the FBI spied on the Trump campaign. He hoped that Barr would “at least have the decency” to admit that he was wrong to the FBI.

GOP strategist Steve Schmidt reveals reasons Trump’s impeachment defense is ‘absurd’

"so the foundation is that the president was mightily concerned about corruption Ukraine,” Schmidt noted. “Forgetting that this is a person who ran a fake university, ran a fraudulent charity, bilked all of his contractors out of the wages they had earned and has a record of fraud that lights the night sky.”

trumps FBI Director Chris Wray breaks with White House

"The fact that Trump seems to have a solid grip on Barr and Durham, though, remains deeply worrying regardless of what happens to Barr — indicating that the Justice Department is now corrupted with exactly the improper political influence that the president claims was turned against him in 2016"

George Conway rips Republican Party chair for outright ‘lie’ about what the inspector general found

Republican lawyer George Conway called out Republican Party chair Ronna Romney McDaniel for an outright “lie” about the findings in the FBI inspector general report about the start of Russia investigation.

The inspector general found Monday that the FBI didn’t act with political intent when it opened the investigation into Paul Manafort. It also didn’t act with political intent when it opened an investigation into Russia intrusion in the 2016 election.

Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) tweeted that the IG report “proves Obama officials abused their FISA power,” which is a lie about what the report actually reveals. Scalise also claimed that these so-called “Obama officials” abused their FISA power to “trigger” an investigation, another fact that is false. President Donald Trump’s appointed FBI Director Christopher Wray explained in an interview that the GOP claim is far from the truth.

Wray: "Including FISA." https://abcn.ws/33YwGPu

The Republican Party chair found the tweet from Scalise “Absolutely stunning,” though she didn’t clarify if it was the false information she found “stunning” or the fact that Scalise perpetuated the false information “stunning.”

Conway, whose spouse serves as a top Trump adviser, flattened Romney McDaniel, calling it a lie.

Rep. Doug Collins (R-GA) similarly brought up the lie during the impeachment hearings on Monday.

He also retweeted a point by University of Texas Law Professor Steve Vladeck.

“This is where we are: The number-two House Republican is asserting that the IG’s report ‘proves’ a conclusion that it SPECIFICALLY REJECTS,” tweeted Vladeck. “Please, folks—read things for yourselves and reach your own conclusions. Never has critical thinking been more important to our democracy.”

Press secretary Stephanie Grisham throws fit about FBI trying to ‘overthrow’ Trump — hours after DOJ debunked it

On Monday, the Justice Department inspector general released a report broadly clearing the FBI of misconduct in the Russia investigation and debunking the GOP’s conspiracy theories about federal agents planting “spies” seeking to undermine Donald Trump.

But in conversation with Fox News’ Tucker Carlson just hours later, White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham acted as though the report said exactly the opposite in a bizarre rant.

“People need to be held accountable,” said Grisham. “This was a government trying to overthrow a president by falsifying documents and by lying and by ruining the lives of many, many people.” She added that she hopes Attorney General William Barr will respond with a wave of firings.

Trump fires back at Chris Wray after the FBI Director sharply breaks with the president on IG report

Trump snarled at his own FBI director on Tuesday morning after the law enforcement official backed the so-called “Horowitz report” — breaking ranks with the president and Attorney General Bill Barr.

Taking to Twitter, Trump wrote: “I don’t know what report current Director of the FBI Christopher Wray was reading, but it sure wasn’t the one given to me. With that kind of attitude, he will never be able to fix the FBI, which is badly broken despite having some of the greatest men & women working there!”
