It's tempting to ignore Trump’s unhinged letter to Congress. But this is different.

Recommended Posts

IT MAY be tempting for some Americans to disregard the unhinged proclamation that the White House sent House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Tuesday. “President Trump is a counterpuncher,” his apologists so often say, as though that absolves him of flouting the rules. “It’s just more of the same,” those lulled into Trump-era apathy might think.

But this is different. The president is asserting autocratic authority to ignore the people’s elected representatives and the Constitution that governs them. This is a new stage in an already dangerous presidency.

Trump is also the people's elected representative.

He got more votes than anybody in Congress.

Yes, Trump was elected. And the House has the Constitutional authority to impeach him.

Trump has constitutional rights as well. Including due process and the ability to face his accusers.

He has no obligation to cooperate with the house any more than you would have to cooperate with police if they were investigating you

They can impeach away. If they ever actually do I will be amazed.

Absolutely irrelevant to impeachment.

Seems obvious and inevitable he will be impeached.

exactly.. there is no provision in the constitution for the person being impeached to have any right of due process.  Due process is a right afforded to those who face justice in our CRIMINAL justice system.... it is meaningless in our political justice system.

At this point we know Trump is a criminal. Full speed ahead to impeachment.

I agree... and, if Faux News is to be believed, a majority of Americans are already ready and willing to send this clown back to Trump Tower.

Well where does the Constitution require him to cooperate?

Abuse of power. Impeachment article. His refusal to cooperate is just another reason to impeach.

it doesn't.  Obstruction of Justice was one of the articles of Impeachment that the House was poised to pass when Tricky Dick got the hint and resigned.

So where in the Constitution does it say he needs to cooperate with his own impeachment?
