wouldn't it be nice to be Bob

Recommended Posts

And then again, the song is more than kind of sexist.

Like a woman needs a man.

She don't need no man.

What, is having a good man all that there is in a woman's life?

Come on Bob,

This song is sexist big time.

But you sure do have a way with lyrics / and good sounding music

all the same.

What really is the point behind this song Bob?

I know you just wrote some words down

And those words sounded great

You are just a poet

an artist

not a problem solver

or a leader of any kind

And Bob, that's okay man.

Because you are great at what you do.

And it's always the best thing to do,

to be kind, and to care about

whoever you meet.

Peace!

Not to me. I don't know who he wrote them for, who the protagonist was, none of that.

To me, it's the lines below.  It was true then, and even more true today. It's a wonderful  update to Samuel Johnson's original quote.

They say that patriotism is the last refuge
To which a scoundrel clings
Steal a little and they throw you in jail
Steal a lot and they make you king

Bob Dylan was undeniably great, but I prefer the softer attitude of my homeboy Leonard Cohen. I hope his prediction comes true.

It's coming from the sorrow in the street
The holy places where the races meet
From the homicidal bitchin'
That goes down in every kitchen
To determine who will serve and who will eat
From the wells of disappointment
Where the women kneel to pray
For the grace of God in the desert here
And the desert far away:
Democracy is coming to the USA

I've often said that Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, and Leonard Cohen are the Jewish Trinity of poetic music.

Dylan is the father, Simon is the son, and Cohen is now, sadly, wholly a ghost.

But you listen to the song, still
And it sounds more than sexist
And I'm surprised you get it right,
Laripu,
low and behold,
You got it exactly right.

Peace!
