So long as socialism does not collapse in China, it will always hold its ground in the world. (Deng Xiaoping)1

Capitalism is a tool used to unite capital to promote industrial development. The PRC  has used it more effectively than anyone to date, and hence has expanded the Chinese economy to the second largest in the world. The leaders of China since the mid-80's have done quite well. Of course, this has been at the expense of free speech, a free press and religion. To most Chinese, this has been an acceptable trade off.

Their present system is a group of shell companies run by people with Chinese names, and financed with foreign money.

China didn't "grow", without massive infusions of foreign money,

The largest sources of foreign investments in China are from Taiwan, Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong  and S. Korea.

The Chinese have been reinvesting their profits in more investments

The Chinese do not own "all our debt". I think American investors own more than China. They do, of course, own a LOT of it.

It makes perfect sense to me why this is a good idea for them.
