No it had everything to do with it. Editing programs on an Apple II was a nightmare. You could not backspace. the tools of a word processor were not available.

The most time I ever wasted in a college class (except for Badminton and Golf) was this Pascal course taught at Barry U. I passed the class, but I learned nothing useful other than anger management. No one in that class ever wrote a program that would do anything useful.

We were told that Pascal would teach us logic. It did not. No one ever wrote anything even modestly commercially viable in Pascal.

I also took PASCAL. At Berkeley. It was a bitch!

I only did it to help out a girlfriend who pleaded with me to take it with her. Then she dropped the class at the last minute. I could not afford a drop.

I did well in the class. Got an A. But the number of hours I put into the class was way more than the rest of my classes combined. Barely slept. I only survived because some engineering friends ended up loaning me an acoustic modem. This was 1978-9. No one had these. Looked like headphone ear muffs that cradled a telephone headset. I could log on to Berkeley's UNIX mainframe from my flat with a monitor and a null modem keyboard, instead of spending every night in a computer lab. Saved my life.

The amount of effort to write very basic programs blew my mind. Worst classroom experience ever.

There are biographies of both Jobs and Gates.

Gates'  major act was realizing that money was in the software rather than the hardware, and that MS DOS was  the best software ever, so he bought it for what was comparatively a song.

\

Anyone who studied BASIC on an Apple II knows how totally awful it was to try to program the damned thing. One wrong letter and nothing worked.

I studied basic on a keyboard, UW main frame, and ticker tape files!

Is the US' continual, illegal, unConstitutional, immoral warmongering to the tune of TRILLIONS socialism capitalism? I think neither. It is corporate/government collusion.

Yup, had those in 1977 or so. First computer science class in SE wisconsin at a high school. Hooked into a University of Wisconsin main frame. played my first computer game. Called Star trek I think.

I am heartened by hearing that. A couple of the students in my class somehow thought it was great, but I think it was mostly because they liked the teacher's fashion sense, which was indisputable.

Barry U. hired public HS teachers as adjuncts to teach other Miami-Dade public HS teachers to get a certificate so they could get a promotion and/or a raise. There were 25 in the class, the teacher was paid $1500 to teach it, we were charged $300 a pop. So Barry supplied a computer lab with 25 Apple II's (and this was after many better computers were available) and got $6000 for it. And told us that it was not making any money, that this was "community service".

I was not at that time teaching in MD public schools, but in a public college, and the certificate as a computer specialist was not honored by anyone outside the County, so I dropped out, and took a desktop publishing course at MDC, which was actually useful, as I got some part time gigs for my skills.

The rest of the class probably got to teach Pascal to HS kids. What fun!

Blaise Pascal (for whom the language was named) was a cool French dude. He should resurrect himself and sue the inventors of Pascal ( and in particular the fools who wrote the Apple II Pascal programming ap for defamation.

Taxation and borrowing...what else? Hell some bitch about a little social welfare (and I'm not talking about SS and Medicare, they are funded by their own taxes) when the goddamn Pentagon can't account for where $3 TRILLION in taxpayer money went.

No, I guess you are absolutely STUCK ON STUPID.   You don't seem to grasp, even despite all that's been revealed about the DOJ and FBI in just the last 2 years, that they've been in the pocket of the Clintons and DNC for nearly 30 years.    I *guess* you are incapable of learning, Scout.

As I said, we both know that you have been proven a liar and that Hillary is innocent.

As long as you provide ZERO evidence of Hillary's guilt of any crimes, your opinion is only opinion.  A worthless opinion, at that.

Secondly, Juanita Broadrick said Clinton NEVER raped her and signed a legal document.

Did she lie the first time, the second version, the third, etc?

We both know a jury would laugh her out of court for perjury .

So once again, you have no solid evidence of any illegal actions and no amount of whining on your part is going to change that.

Inventors are generally far more concerned with making a great invention than in getting very, very rich. They tend to not be capitalists, simply because they do not have enough assets to invest.

"Capitalists" surely contributed to the development of computers, but they were not the inventors.

Well, I see Jobs as the capitalist/marketer and Woz as the inventor.

Where is the "EVIDENCE" that you moonbats with trumpy OCD use to continue the witch hunt?  There is none! But that doesn't stop you idiots. I'm with BeAChooser. The many titted empress and her slick willie are the biggest crooks ever. The many titted empress just got by with destroying the evidence.

When I was 12 (1970) my dad took me to Engineering Day at UCLA. They had a bunch of cool stuff. Activities included their popular egg-drop competition from the top of Boelter Hall.

The biggest crowd-pleaser of the day was a functioning hydrogen-powered car.

At some point, I started exploring away from the main activities. I found a room where they had monitors and keyboard that allowed me to type and communicate with people at Sanford.

Then I played a game of chess over the computer link. I was astounded.

Only later did I learn that this was the first link in the ARPANET that was the start of what evolved into the modern internet.

ARPANET was not the big draw of the day (hard to believe). Even as a kid I realized this technology would change the future.

I did not anticipate how many internet trolls this technology would nurture. LOL.

LOL!   See what I mean about Scout being STUCK ON STUPID, folks?

Again, I invite you to go look at the thread I linked to see just how STUCK ON STUPID.

Because it's the same sort of STUCK ON STUPID that has DemocRATS continuing to pursue the bogus Trump/Russia Collusion allegation.

And the irony is that it might end up making Trump mad enough to order Barr to pursue Hillary (and perhaps Bill) in court for a variety of crimes.

Not rape ... since the statute of limitations has long expired ... but little things.

Like lying under oath, like obstruction of justice, like violating laws regarding the handling of classified material, and like committing sedition.

Little things ...

I'm guessing that's about all you know about either of them.

Wozniak had nearly completed college.

I never heard anybody say that textbook learning is always optimal and you would have to be an idiot to not consider textbooks sufficient at times.

What has existed in the US since raygun's bullsch!t is NOT captalism! It is corporate/government collusion more akin to fascism.

Social Security has not added one CENT to the national debt.

I don't think they had any money after they quit college.  They were their own garage-engineers.  Later on, after they got really rich, probably.

Bill Gates didn't have diddly-squat to do with the technical side of MS software.  He was the marketer and terribly clever to have tricked IBM into paying him to develop it for them and THEN allowing him to own the rights.

This is true. Universities were founded by the Holy Mother Church because illiterate priests  kept inventing their own biblical references. Then the Church decided to allow the princes to study at their universities so they would not order their troops to  loot and burn down monasteries, rape the nuns and bugger the monks.

Inventors were not much inspired by traditional universities, but technical universities like RPI, MIT and Cal Tech were founded for that purpose. Jefferson himself was an inventor,  a pretty poor businessman (he had lots of decent land and slaves and still needed to be bailed out),  and I think he had a lot to do with  technical education.

Up until after WWII, if you wanted to be in businessman, you did not attend any university, but went to for-profit commercial schools, where stenography, typing, accounting, auditing, bookkeeping and related subjects were taught. After WWII, rich businessmen funded  university Departments of Business, like Wharton School, because the business ed taught at for-profit schools tended to suck.

Jefferson was THE education President.  He provided the land grants for many many state universities.

He was the person who promoted the public education system.
