Is it time to legalize prostitution?

Recommended Posts

I am not sure what is wrong with this spineless generation of girlie men , or is it feminism? i don't know, i don't care, what i do care about is idiots with guns committing mass murder, one aspect of solving this problem or at the very least trying to minimize it, is to try in some way to make it harder for crazy people to get their hands on semi automatic weapons that make it easy to kill, another idea might be to find some mental health help for these sad sacks... and finally, if these guys are so hard up for a little lovin', why not let them buy some pussy? and legalize and regulate prostitution .

Man Allegedly Threatened Mass Shooting Against Women

A man, allegedly upset over not having a girlfriend who loved him, posted concerning remarks on Facebook, which prompted local police officers to partner with the FBI and  arrest him for making terroristic threats.

Christopher Cleary was taken into custody in Provo, Utah, by Provo Police Department officers on Saturday and is still being held in the Utah County Jail. The 27-year-old is from Denver, according to the Deseret News, but was staying in an Airbnb in Utah while visiting the area.

"All I wanted was a girlfriend, not 1000 not a bunch of hoes not money none of that. All I wanted was to be loved, yet no one cares about me I'm 27 years old and I've never had a girlfriend before and I'm still a virgin, this is why I'm planning on shooting up a public place soon and being the next mass shooter cause I'm ready to die and all the girls the turned me down is going to make it right by killing as many girls as I see,” Cleary reportedly posted on Facebook.

Two different problems.

There's a world of difference between threatening a mass shooting and actually carrying one out.  Although such threats shouldn't be taken lightly, the chances are, Cleary was just threatening.

Mass shootings are usually done by severely mentally disturbed individuals, often in misguided retaliation for imaginary grievances.  Although deep, underlying emotional problems of mass murderers might include inability to form relationships,  their grievances usually have little, specifically, to do with the sexual life of the perpetrator or the lack of it.

I'm in favor of legalized prostitution, but I don't see the case of Christopher Cleary as any argument in favor of it.

I have no problem with legalizing prostitution.  As long as the prostitutes are of age and consenting, it should be legal.

Well if that happens there is gonna be more prostitutes, which means more prostitutes getting pregnant with kids they cant take care of, so now we have a generation of kids that are too stupid to take care of themselves because their mothers weren't prepared

You guys are retarded

Most prostitutes are on birth control.

How do you now their mothers weren't prepared?  That seems like an unsubstantiated broadbrush statement to me.

I'm in favor of legalizing sex work (Let's not call it prostitution.  Sex workers prefer the term sex work)  Especially so we can cut down on abuses in the industry that's currently illegal.

Good idea.

When I was young and frisky, a group of us GI's, stationed in West Germany spent a two week leave in Amsterdam,, where sex work is legal.  I had been saving my pay for a year in preparation for this trip.  I learned quite a bit about  sex work in The Netherlands, since I spent most of those two weeks sampling every size, shape and color of sex worker that I could find in the red light district.

I feel legalizing sex work is the right thing to do.  And I believe the Dutch model is, probably the best one on which to pattern legalization.

I have no experience of male sex workers.  But the female sex workers had their own labor union and took regular holidays, mealtimes and two 20 minute breaks per shift.  There were standard charges for every item of clothing removed and for each sex activity, up to and including the ultimate.  There were no pimps that I heard of.  The women felt empowered by all of this.

The Dutch government regulated the sex industry:  Sex workers were required to keep a large supply of condoms and provide them for each customer.  Sex workers were legally obliged to submit to a medical examination for STDs, every two weeks and were not allowed to work, if infected.

While conversing with many sex workers, I got the overall impression of good self-esteem.  Most made very respectable money and were able to afford much of the best in life.  The stigma of sex work that exists where it is illegal was, to a large degree, eliminated in these professionals.

Now this is a scary bunch of guys.    Have you ever been to one of their forums?

They're very, very angry.

I see no reason why prostitution shouldn't be legalized.  Of course, I'm for legalization of just about everything.

My only exposure to legal "sex work" was in Nevada where brothels are legal. I gotta agree with @bludog the whole atmosphere is way more comfortable and under state control the same regulations in Amsterdam. This would not help the insane Cleary he has other issues than still being a virgin at age 27.

Because of the demand, it seems that the choices are "crime, pimps, exploitation, violence and disease" or "legalization, government regulation, disease control".

Given this choice, my practicality makes me pro legalization, provided that control is there.

However, on a personal level, I have a strong feeling against paying for sex. I realize that not everyone feels the same way; that's ok, not my business. Some people, for example, have an "ick" dusgusted feeling about certain food. I have that feeling about the thought of paying for physical affection.

Everyone's different.

paying for physical affection.

Although not mutually exclusive, sexual activity and affection are two different things.  Either one can be performed without the other.  Or, they can be combined.  People in love often practice sexual activity and physical affection at the same time.  Love need not involve any sexual activity at all  but often includes physical affection.  However, love doesn't reqire physical affection, either.

When paying for sex, the service delivered is genuine sex.    Like love, real affection cannot be bought.

When one buys the services of a sex worker it can be from a variety of motives which include:  Curiosity about physical types ...  gratification of corporeal need ...  to temporarily assuage lust ...  inquisitiveness about what impersonal sex is like.  And others, I suppose.  Like you said, "Everyone's different".

You can already be in porno movies.  Never understood that.  You take your close off and have sex, and turn a camera on, and get paid.  How is that different to the point that one is legal and one is illegal?  Makes no sense.

Making it illegal really doesn't seem to help anything.  I don't think not putting people in jail and fining them and driving them into the arms of organized gangsters is helping the prostitutes at all.  So why do it?  Not ruining their lives is not the same as advocating what they choose to do.  It's just not ruining their lives.  Legalize it.

Knowing how these incel types think, and based on the quote above, I am sure that he would consider visiting a prostitute to be beneath him. For most of these people, it isn't enough that he simply get laid, he must have someone who loves him and treats him like a god in exchange for him having sex with her. They have an extremely shallow and warped view of the world, and it is a big part of why they are unable to find girlfriends in the first place.

The Internet/online chats/forums are playing a huge role in defining the values of an entire generation (whose parents are not doing the same), and they are not doing it in a healthy or positive way. The only solution I see is stricter regulation of online content... but of course, there are issues with that as well, and there are still somehow a lot of people who think that the Internet is some sort of ultimate freedom and don't want it to be taken away, no matter how miserable and jerky it makes everyone.

Information is not harmless, and people are not as resilient as they want to believe... it can have a drug-like effect that will send people into really dark places.
