Trump's Latest Whore Matthew Whittaker was Major Part of a Shocking, Criminal Consumer Scam

Trump's Acting Attorney General Was Part of Miami-Based Invention Scam Company

Today President Donald Trump fired Attorney General Jeff Sessions and announced that his chief of staff, Matthew Whitaker, would become acting attorney general. Whitaker is a former U.S. attorney in Iowa, but he was also involved in a Miami-based invention-marketing company the Federal Trade Commission shut down last year after calling it a scam.

Whitaker not only sat on the board of World Patent Marketing but also once sent a threatening email to a former customer who had complained after he spent thousands of dollars and did not receive the promised services. Court records obtained by New Times for a 2017 feature about the fraudulent company show that in an August 2015 email to a disgruntled customer, Whitaker touted his background as a former federal attorney and suggested that filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and "smearing" the company online could result in "serious civil and criminal consequences."

World Patent Marketing collected almost $26 million by promising starry-eyed inventors it would turn their inventions into best sellers. Company reps claimed invention ideas were reviewed by an illustrious board that included big names such as Whitaker, Republican Congressman Brian Mast, and time-travel scientist Ronald Mallett. (A Mast spokesman denied that the congressman was on the board and said he never accepted compensation, though he did take a campaign contribution he later returned.)

Coooper and his company relied on the influence of the board members to attract customers — and to keep them in line. In an April 2016 email to an irate customer, he wrote, "Do you think all these powerful and influential people would join forces with me if what you said were true? We have former US Attorneys, members of President Obama's advisory council, military generals, famous doctors. Think about it." Scripts distributed to company representatives had them boast about the CEO's "incredible advisory board" and mention Whitaker by name.

At least a few board members simply took cash without meeting inventors or reviewing pitches. Some of the supposed innovations the company green-lit already existed, so patent applications were regularly denied. And despite the many supposed success stories listed on its website, virtually none of the firm's clients ever made money. Once customers paid, World Patent Marketing provided little of what was promised. And when customers complained or warned that they would write negative reviews, Cooper unleashed wild threats, sometimes mentioning Krav Maga-trained security.

Other threats came from Whitaker. In one email included in thousands of pages of documents New Times reviewed, he accused a customer of "possible blackmail or extortion" and threatened "serious civil or criminal consequences."

The feds alleged that thousands of would-be inventors — whose ideas included posterior-enhancing jeans, bimini tops for lawnmowers and fruit crossbred with marijuana — were ripped off in the scheme. They lost as much as $400,000 apiece; some spent their entire life savings.

After losing a 2014 Senate bid and leaving World Patent Marketing, Whitaker became a CNN commentator and penned op-eds claiming that Special Counsel Robert Mueller's probe has "gone too far" and that he would have indicted Hillary Clinton. He was named Sessions’ chief of staff in September 2017.

Cooper and World Patent Marketing settled with the Federal Trade Commission this past May. A judgment of $25,987,192 was entered in favor of the FTC. Cooper and World Patent Marketing were also banned from working in invention promotion.

Those who lost money in the scam are still waiting to receive any kind of compensation. Some were stunned by the choice of Whitaker

“Defendants have operated an invention-promotion scam that has bilked thousands of consumers out of millions of dollars,” the FTC complaint says of World Patent Marketing. “Defendants promise consumer inventors a patent and a lucrative licensing or manufacturing agreement that will allow consumers to successfully monetize their inventions. Defendants craft their marketing materials to create the impression that they have successfully helped other inventors, and thus that they are reliable and reputable. In truth and in fact, Defendants fail to fulfill almost every promise they make to consumers.”

The complaint goes on, “After Defendants collect thousands of dollars from consumers and string them along for months or years… In the end, after months or even years of stringing them along, Defendants leave most of their customers with nothing…  Many of Defendants' customers end up in debt or losing their life savings or inheritances, after investing in Defendants· broken promises.”

The FTC complaint describes the company's response when its victims sought to go public with complaints  or seek redress from law enforcement:

Defendants respond by threatening to file a lawsuit for extortion, defamation, and other causes of action. Defendants and their lawyers have threatened consumers with lawsuits and even criminal charges and imprisonment for making any kind of complaint about Defendants.”

The FTC reported that one victim who sought a refund  received a letter from a company lawyer “who told her that her conduct of seeking a refund constitutes extortion under Florida law and, 'Since you used email to make your threats, you would be subject to a federal extortion charge, which carries a term of imprisonment of up to two years and potential criminal fines. See 18 U.S.C. ii 875(d).’"

The FTC complaint adds that “Defendants also cultivate a threatening atmosphere” by sending its victims emails describing a company “security team” of “all ex-Israeli Special Ops and trained in Krav Maga, one of the most deadly of the martial arts.'' The company emails reported, “'The World Patent Marketing Security Team are the kind of guys who are trained to knockout first and ask questions later."

Have you seen the flood of attorneys who are calling this illegal and calling Whittaker "illegitimate"?

They are saying that he has no constitutional authority, that nothing he tries to do should be honored, and that the moment he tries to interfere with Mueller he will be investigated for conspiracy and obstruction.

Elijah Cummings is going to go gangsta on his stupid ass.

Our Newly Appointed Attorney General Made Piles Of Cash From Dark Money Groups

Following the blue wave that hit DC this past Tuesday, Donald Trump needed a big distraction. We knew it would be ugly, but many overlooked the possibility that Attorney General Jeff Sessions could be fired. The natural choice to succeed him would, of course, be Rod Rosenstein, but we know that will never happen under Trump because Rod is a man of character who has defended Bob Mueller and his investigation. Trump needed a loyalist stooge (and fellow grifter) and he found just that in Matthew Whitaker. Trump found Whitaker on television and liked that he lacked integrity and firmly voiced his opposition to the Mueller probe.

As it turns out, according to Shelly Kelly at DESMOG, before going to work for Sessions, Whitaker made buckets full of money from dark, shady groups for a few years:

Whitaker was appointed as Session’s chief of staff on September 22, 2017. Before that, he served for three years as the executive director of the Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT), which describes itself as “a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting accountability, ethics, and transparency in government and civic arenas.”

FACT has come under fire for its own lack of transparency, with the Center for Responsive Politics calling attention to FACT’s funding, which in some years came entirely from Donors Trust, an organization also known as the “Dark Money ATM of the Conservative Movement” and whose own donors include the notorious funders of climate denial, Charles and David Koch.

In 2016, Whitaker earned $402,000 as FACT’s director and president, according to the organization’s tax filings. That followed reported compensation from FACT for Whitaker of $63,000 in 2014, and $252,000 in 2015.

Read on...

As always, Trump thinks he has made a brilliant move, but he actually pours more gasoline onto the fire that is his failed presidency. By making such a transparent appointment he has only brought more scrutiny, and urgency, to the Mueller probe.

Trump is the guy who thinks he can get away with anything. I hope that he is proved wrong on that....but sadly he can- we are no longer a nation of laws - we are a nation of men and those men are old white racists

For heavens sake, if Trump gets one man in the doj that is a Republcan that is on his side, the dems go absolutely crazy.  1 man in the doj and fbi and all other depts of the government that leans towards being a supporter of Trump, and all the dems are having fits, and threatening world war 3 if Trump doesn't get rid of him.

We know why they are in a panic, because some of their people may look at jail time, like Trump supporters are seeing jail time.  I hope Whitaker starts cleaning house.
