Meanwhile, 100 more subpoenas

Recommended Posts

Does this mean Mueller has 250 witnesses against Manafort?

The Hill:

Special counsel Robert Mueller is asking a federal court in Virginia for 100 blank subpoenas in the case against former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort.

The subpoenas would require their recipients to testify in the U.S. District Court in Alexandria on July 25, when Manafort's trial in Virginia is set to begin.

The request comes roughly a month after Mueller filed a request for 150 blank subpoenas.

No. I'm not familiar with blank subpoenas, but subpoenas are used for all kinds of requests, not just witnesses, and he has a lot more than Manafort.

It sounds like a quite active investigation though. Imagine if it takes several years like the others did. Why not - it's more complex.

I'm sure he has more than he needs.

When Manafort is convicted:

  • CNN will cover it.
  • MSNBC's Rachel Maddow will go into detailed explanation about it.
  • The Fox news headlines will be about someone refusing to stand for the anthem (after another innocent black man is shot in the back by police, which they won't mention).

Go Mueller go !!!

Manafort is so screwed.

Consider the series of recent events:

  • He gets caught sending 'encrypted' messages to potential witnesses, which the FBI can easily decrypt.
  • He gets sent to a strangely deluxe jail with VIP treatment: Private bathroom, personal phone, and laptop. Of course, while he enjoys the trappings of luxury in Northern neck, Va. he was being monitored the entire time by the FBI.
  • Then, he complains to the judge about the harsh conditions, solitary confinement, and the 100 mile trip to Alexandria.
  • In response, Mueller's team presents to the judge a taped prison call on July 4,2108: where he remarked that he is being "treated like a VIP", and that he has "all my files like I would at home".
  • So now the judge is pissed at the Manafort's team for deceiving him, and sends him to Alexanderia jail, saving him the dreaded 100 mile trip that he complained about.
  • Manafort's team did not like the idea anymore...
  • The judge does not care. “It is surprising and confusing when counsel identifies a problem and then opposes the most logical solution to that problem. The dissonance between defendant’s motion to continue and motion opposing transfer to the Alexandria Detention Center cannot easily be explained or resolved.”

July 25th less than 2 weeks away, and Mueller asks for 100 more subpeonas on top of 150 previously. That's a lot of witnesses. That should take the trial right into the midterm season.

Since Manafort is the only non cooperating defendant, they will be sure to make an example out of him.
Will it be televised? It should be.
