Can't find any data comparing 1960 Federal Gov't research dollars going to universities compared to 2018.

Can you?

The college used to have 20-30 story high rise research towers, I was told were operating on government research dollars.

The income from the research offset the tuition at the time.

Just by coincidence, I recently had the opportunity to speak to the business manager who runs the research complex.

The one that I was very interested in was the one that had been attempting to develop clean burning coal.

A friend of mine had been working there.

He was very upset when the development was shut down about 30 years back. He was convinced that they were so VERY CLOSE.

The pilot plant was still there, unused. The rest of the office facility was partially rented out.

IF the country was REALLY interested in alternative fuels and the environment,

I would have expected that this facility would have been CRAWLING WITH PHDs, and other nerds.

From what I have read, the attempts to develop clean burning coal have been pretty putrid, when compared to putting a man on the moon.

However, the return from clean coal would be mega times the return that was received from space exploration.

End The Trump Culture Of Corruption

"Donald Trump cheated to gain power and now uses his position to enrich himself, his family and his well-connected friends. Republicans support his corruption, misogyny and hate-mongering to keep themselves in power so they can do favors for Wall Street.

Wall Street, in turn, supports Donald Trump and Republicans.

Corruption is at the heart of the Trump administration and the way Washington operates, but progressive champion Sen. Elizabeth Warren has had enough. She just unveiled powerful, comprehensive new anti-corruption legislation, and now she needs our help to push it forward."

Was it the Koch brothers who declared that coal could never be made clean burning?

And everybody said;

"Yeah, must be true!"

Bank Of America!

Stand With Immigrants!!!

"Why is Bank of America forcing customers to verify their citizenship status?

Proof of citizenship is not required to open an account or conduct business with a bank in the United States. But that hasn't stopped Bank of America from penalizing customers who refuse to confirm whether they are U.S. citizens. That is unacceptable.

History will remember which banks stood by immigrants and which ones helped Donald Trump attack them. Speak out now to demand that Bank of America does the right thing and stops forcing customers to reveal their immigration status."

Stop Funding ALEC!!!

"You might be shocked to learn which companies are quietly funding the spread of white supremacy: AT&T. FedEx. Anheuser-Busch. Comcast. Pfizer.

All of these companies are dues-paying members of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). For its annual conference earlier this month, the secretive right-wing lobbying organization invited hatemonger David Horowitz as a featured speaker. Not once but in two separate sessions, ALEC and its funders gave Horowitz a platform to spread his dangerous message.

More than 100 companies have left ALEC because of its extreme stances, including Google, Wal-Mart and Sprint. But the holdouts continue to align their brands with ALEC's racism and toxic agenda."

Suspend Kavanaugh's Supreme Court Confirmation Hearings

"Trump is depending on Kavanaugh’s appointment to escape accountability via a Court biased in his favor. During this constitutional crisis especially, the Senate cannot be allowed to ram through the confirmation of Trump’s nominee to a lifetime seat on the Supreme Court."

Stop Trying To Weaponize Schools

"Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos' ideas about educating our children come in two flavors: bad and worse. First, she kept gun violence off the agenda for the school safety commission she convened after the Parkland shooting. Now, she is considering using federal funds to put guns in teachers' hands.

This week, there was another mass shooting in Florida, the 253rd of 2018. This year, more than 2,300 children have been injured or killed by gun violence. Students and their families deserve safe, welcoming schools where everyone can learn and thrive, not war zones weaponized by politicians in the pocket of the NRA.

We need to push back on DeVos' dangerous plan, now!!"

Tell Hyatt Hotels: Stop Hosting Hate

"Hyatt is about to host a conference for the largest anti-Muslim hate group in the country.

ACT! for America spreads anti-Muslim propaganda, denigrates American Muslims, and backs some of the most extreme policies in the country to attack Muslims and legalize anti-Muslim bigotry. By hosting the group's biggest gathering of the year, Hyatt is enabling and sanctioning its hateful agenda. We cannot allow that to happen.

Hyatt Hotels claims to be global champion of diversity and inclusion. This is the company's chance to prove it. Speak out now to demand that Hyatt cancel its contract with ACT for America and refuse to host any of its conferences."

Corporations Must Answer To Workers/Communities

"Conservative corporate puppets launched unhinged verbal attacks on Sen. Elizabeth Warren's new corporate reform bill. They said it is a plan to "nationalize….everything", amounts to "the wholesale expropriation of private enterprise in the United States and nothing less", and would "destroy capitalism."

They're completely untethered from reality. In truth, Sen. Warren's bill would simply require corporations to care about more than just enriching executives and stockholders.

Corporations only exist because government-granted charters allow them to profit, for instance, by protecting owners from full liability for anything the corporation does wrong. In return, corporate boards and executives used to believe they had a responsibility to do right by workers and communities as well as competing in the market. That all changed in the 1980s, when corporate executives began to focus narrowly on providing value to shareholders.

The result? Executives get paid based on how much they can squeeze workers without regard for their health, the environment or the impact on communities. Focusing on shareholder value poured fuel on the flames of inequality. Today, CEOs make on average of 361 times more than their average worker, and the few Americans who own stock get most of the wealth created. Meanwhile, many companies aren't innovating, investing in future production or raising wages."

Commission Medical Marijuana As An Alternative To Opioids

11/1/17 - "Despite the growing body of scientific evidence showing that cannabis access is associated with reductions in opioid use and mortality, Governor Chris Christie (R-NJ), who serves as Chairman of the White House’s Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and the Opioid Crisis called upon the President to reject any efforts to acknowledge marijuanas promising role in mitigating opioid abuse and dependency."

Marijuana Is The Gateway To Ending Opioid Addiction

"Opioid-involved overdose deaths have increased five-fold since 1999 and were involved in over 40,000 deaths in 2016. Deaths involving benzodiazepines, a family of anti-anxiety drugs, have increased eight-fold during this same time.

Best evidence informs us that medical marijuana access is associated with reduced levels of opioid-related abuse, hospitalization and mortality.

In April of this year, the esteemed Journal of the American Medical Association, Internal Medicine published a pair of persuasive new studies reinforcing this opinion.

You can see many more published studies on the NORML factsheet Relationship Between Marijuana and Opioids."

Dont Roll-Back Crucial Component Of Clean Water Act!

"Section 401 of the Clean Water Act allows individual states to set their own water quality standards. It also lets states withhold permitting from federally approved infrastructure projects if they fail to meet the state’s standards. This provision is an important tool to stop polluting projects like hydroelectric dams, export terminals, and natural gas pipelines."

Tell Republicans:

Don't Make Jim Jordan House Leader

"As one of Donald Trump's most loyal lapdogs, Jordan has been doing everything in his power to impede Robert Mueller's investigation into Trump's Russia ties. Jordan, along with other extreme conservatives, introduced articles of impeachment against Rod Rosenstein, the person overseeing Robert Mueller's investigation into Trump's Russia ties – an outrageous and blatant attempt to discredit Mueller's investigation and protect Trump from Mueller's findings."

Keep Your Hands OFF Social Security And Medicare!!!

The massive Trump Tax Scam rammed through Congress late last year was intentionally designed to drive up the deficit in order to justify gutting Medicare and Social Security."

"With all the news about Russian interference in U.S. elections, the reality of our democracy's vulnerability to cyberattacks is shocking.

Only two states have strong post-election auditing rules. At least 10 states provide no cybersecurity training to election officials. Fourteen states use paperless voting machines, and five rely on them exclusively.

Congress has the power to protect our elections, but it must act to pass a strong bill that meets the standards set by election security experts. The only bill that does so is Sen. Ron Wyden's Protecting American Votes and Elections (PAVE) Act."

Congress: Protect Our Right To Vote!!

"A new report from the Brennan Center for Justice shows that MILLIONS of voters have been purged from the voters rolls since the Supreme Court’s 2013 decision in Shelby County vs. Holder that gutted the Voting Rights Act.

And right now, special interest groups and the super-rich, like the Koch network, are pouring cash into our elections. They’re finding candidates to elect who will push their shady agendas – including disenfranchising voters with policies like requiring voter IDs."
