A Democracy?

I just wanted to write this somewhere, sort of a running thought. So, when America started out, the founding fathers wanted to create a republic. Plato talks in some detail about how republics can form into a democracy or “mob rule” and ultimately into a oligarchy after that, which is basically where “the few govern” or tyranny.

I believe that today, America is a democracy. Mob rule seems to be on full display from the left and right, always about guns and civil liberties. Special interests on both sides, which is where capitalism comes into play but I’m not getting in to that right now.

Shouldn’t we really be pushing to bring everything back to a republic? And it should be that all people are equal(I was looking into the 13 amendment and 3/5 compromise).

I understand what (he's) saying.

America is a democracy w/in a Republic.

The Republic is the State and Federal Constitutions.

The rule of law ... the Rule Book.

The Democracy voted to make the 16th Amdt and yet now, nobody (working) really wants it.

It will take the Democracy to change the Rule Book back like it did for the 18th Amdt.

And you completely understand less which is the concepts of anything else is possible. in your adopted intellectual reality understanding kinetic results as eternally separated now is anti social behavior while agreeing to believe anything else is possible is a positive attitude..

Yes! Your post is spot on. The problem is the left and moderate republicans will not allow this. We are past a democracy and we sped past an oligarch and are heading right into socialism. The people have no stomach for a republican any longer. It is just too much work for our spoiled country. Everything has to be easy and guaranteed. The left wants to remove all risk in life and all liberties.

I’m just trying to start a conversation. I’m really just thinking in terms of governments, not left vs right. The concept of what our republic is supposed to be and how it’s not that.

Basically, I’m thinking that capitalism and religion are the biggest players in why there is a sense of corruption in our govt, because they both promote biases, form mob rule, and create foundations for an oligarchy
