Flag Pledge - Anthem

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker says he thinks NFL players should stop protesting during the national anthem and instead speak out against domestic violence. The Republican former presidential hopeful sent a letter Monday to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Players Association Executive Director DeMaurice Smith saying he believes players are showing disrespect for the flag and veterans. Players should drop the "divisive political sideshow" and speak out against domestic violence instead, the governor wrote.

The "divisive political sideshow" is doing the anthem at the games.  Spectators paid good money to see the game, and not engage in flag worship, and toadifiedly chanting incantations...

Not having it played at the games would be a solution. Not sure that this will happen, though. Neither side would be able to declare a victory even if it was meaningless.

Shouldn't be any declaration of victory.  Just play the games.  That's what the fans go to the stadium for in the first place.

There is no real need to play any national anthem at pro football games.

There is no reason to recite the Pledge, either.

It is not a patriotic event.

We do it at HS games to instill patriotism in the young.

The main purpose of a pro ball game is to sell  stuff; beer pickup trucks, Viagra, consumer crap.

Should not be but egos get in the way. Players will want to know that they did not cave in and owners/some fans/Trump will want that empty honor of having the players submit to their will. No pledge and no anthem means neither gets the hollow victory.

From ABC News 7 October 2017:
-----------------------------------------------------
A lawsuit says a Houston student's Constitutional rights were violated when she was expelled for not standing for the Pledge of Allegiance.  ...Landry, who is black, told KHOU she doesn't think "the flag is what it says it's for, for liberty and justice and all that."

They should buy ads on tv during the game if they feel so strongly about whatever it is they are upset with

They should continue kneeling, because it is FREE PUBLICITY, and it irritates the racists.

It irritates you, for example. Jabbering about the Obamas leaving "soul glow" in the White House.

Me, not a bit. Don't watch sports, anyway.

The solution, don't have it played anymore. Problem solved. Nascar can still do it for the rednecks if they want.

Why should it go away just because a small minority of people hate the country?

The only opinion that matters is the owners. If they want to allow the players to protest, they will. If they don't want that, they wont. The problem is the customers may or may not agree with the owners decision and not buy their products.

No.  They should suck it up, play their game the best they can, salute the flag, and take their huge paychecks.  Then, once they are retired and assuming they have wisely invested the money they earned, they can rally for all the liberal, communist causes they can pay for.

You have to be filthy rich already, tired of playing football or just plain stupid to do the dumb things these players are doing.  They are not filthy rich and I don't believe they are tired of playing football.  I just think they are unbelievably foolish.

I never understood what watching sports had to do with official rituals of the United States.
