Student Points Finger Like Gun, Gets Suspended Under Zero Tolerance Rules

"He was pointing it at a friend's head and he said 'boom.' The kid didn't see it. No other kids saw it. But the teacher saw it," he said. "It wasn't threatening. It wasn't hostile. It was a 10-year-old kid playing."

The next morning Paul Entingh escorted his son Nathan to the principal's office, where they met with Devonshire Alternative Elementary School Principal Patricia Price.

"She said if it happened again the suspension would be longer, if not permanent," said Entingh, who also received a letter explaining the reason for Nathan's suspension as a "level 2 look alike firearm."

When I was in high school, I always carried a knife on me.  Sometimes it was my Schrade LB7, other times it was an old Latama switchblade I bought off one of my friends.  Then, when I turned 16, I bought an I.N.S. 38 revolver, but I knew better than to take that to school.

Since I was a friendly sort of guy, I mostly just used the switchblade for cooking hotdogs on my hibatchi grill when we would hang out on weekends.

  • The Franchi SPAS-12 is a combat shotgun manufactured by Italian firearms company Franchi from 1979 to 2000. The SPAS-12 is a dual-mode shotgun, adjustable for semi-automatic or pump-action operation. The SPAS-12 was sold to military and police users worldwide, as well as on the civilian market, and has been featured in many films, TV shows, and video games. The appearance and intended purpose of the SPAS-12 initially led to its "military" design…

The language of the amendment is clear. Heller was decided in error. There is no individual right.

The entire Constitution is about the rights of the individual. It's liberals who would see Americans turned into a pack of mindless lemmings.

The Constitution is clear - individuals have a right to own a wide variety of firearms and ammo.  Heller confirmed this.  We control the Supreme court.  Face it, everyone has a gun, except you.  So, get a gun and stop being so scared!

I don't know the laws on switchblades, but they stem from a psychological root. I have a few in the collection. The  smallest is a Hubertus from Germany. 2 inch blade. Not wanting to step outside the law, I keep something legal in the car.

@AnotherJim  I don't know the laws on switchblades, but they stem from a psychological root. I have a few in the collection. The  smallest is a Hubertus from Germany. 2 inch blade. Not wanting to step outside the law, I keep something legal in the car.

I like switchblades - have a collection of several, and I still have that old Latama I bought off my friend, Tim.  Turns out that one is quite collectible - from the 1950's.  I paid Tim $20 for it, which was probably a fair price at the time.  Tim's dad picked it up while he was serving in the military stationed in Italy.  Unfortunately, Tim's dad sort of abandoned him and his mother, gave him the knife and for Tim, it was more or less a bad reminder of his father.  It always bothered me that I bought that knife from Tim - it was the only thing he ever got from his Dad.

Many years later, Tim needed some money and I gave him several hundred dollars for a couple of rifles he had - a Chinese SKS and a post-64 Winchester 30-30.  I sold the SKS for a little less than what I paid Tim for the two guns and kept the 30-30.  Jumping ahead in time about another 10 years or so, Tim got married, had a boy with his wife and he gave me a call.  He told me that he always liked that 30-30 and really wanted it back to teach his son how to shoot - offered to pay me for it.  I told him I wouldn't accept money for it, that it was his and he could have it back.  I kept it at my cabin and told him to go get it and stay there for a week where he could enjoy some peace and quiet and teach his son to shoot it.  Tim took me up on this, and I am glad of it.

I still have that old Latama switchblade.  It's not in great shape, but it does work. I took it apart and fixed the mechanism - not the best repair, but not all that bad either.  I probably should give that back to Tim as well, but I have a hard time parting with it.  See, now I have some history with that knife too; it's part of my life.  Still, I feel I've always been a little bit selfish when it comes to that knife.
