NRA PROMOTING VIOLENCE?

Recommended Posts

It's a fact that the United States government is not a military dictatorship. We can prepare for that all we want, because the second amendment codifies that right, but it hasn't happened and isn't likely to.

Here's what actually has happened:

  • States are infringing on abortion rights, making it harder to obtain an abortion. Their strategy is continuous silly regulation until no clinic can meet the regulations and abortion becomes unavailable. There's also the increasing drumbeat to defund Planned Parenthood.
  • States are also infringing on voters' rights, limiting early voting access while demanding more ID. This hurts the poor disproportionately. When someone is desperate for their job, will they take time off to vote? If someone can't afford to travel internationally, will they apply for a passport to prove citizenship?
  • Police are undisciplined and rude. This has affected blacks and Hispanics more than whites, but whites are also abuse. Even white educated professionals like nurses can be arrested for no reason other than a cop being frustrated at not getting his way.
  • The environment is no longer as protected as it was. Regulations have been swept away. We've withdrawn from the Paris accord.
  • The right wants to diminish Social Security and Medicare to the point where they wither away to nothing.
  • I can list lots more.  Can't you? .....

So if you're worried about an unlikely event that might happen in the future, and you're willing to use that fear to ignore the real damage being done to our country right now, then you're doing the wrong thing. Even worse, you're helping the work of conservatives.

One more thing. There are many ways to institute a dictatorship. The military is the least effective and stupidest way. The most effective way is to create a society in which economic need makes everyone do exactly as their told. A nation of poor people that are 100% dependent on the 0.1% group of rich people is a nation on its knees. That's my fear, and a gun will never be of help against that in any way.

Very well said.  That is where we, as a Nation are headed at this moment.

No guarantee it will not be employed.   If there are serious uprisings, a Commander-In-Chief like Trump could easily perceive it as an intermediate course of action, on the way to the total economic humbling of the masses.

Unfortunately real-life police horror videos are getting to be a dime a dozen.

This particular video reminded me, once again, of the grave responsibility gun carry confers, whether it be private citizen, or law enforcement.

Agreed, no guarantee that it won't be deployed. But I stand behind my assertion that it's the least effective and stupidest way to institute a dictatorship. A dictator that uses military force is either a dummy or a sadist or a sociopath or some combination of the above.

More efficient ways are:

- Motivate the majority against a hated scapegoat. (Scapegoated groups include Jews, Gypsies, homosexuals, blacks, socialists, Latinos, Muslims, people with liberal western ideas and intellectuals.)

- Endless war + patriotism = obedient populace.

- Make almost everyone poor and dependent on the richest 0.1%, but make them believe that if they only work hard they too can be a millionaire.

We currently have an attenuated combination of those three.

Edit to add: 1984 falls on 2017 this century. ;)

No argument from me, there.  You have pinpointed the three main main approaches now being used by demagogues to gain the obedience of the populace.  By design, the last two mesh, by with big corporate profits and plutocratic visions of grandeur.

Our current president has demonstrated intent to become dictator.  And he is flawed in the three ways you list.

  • Hola

  • I know this one, this new chat thing. I've seen it called the "shoutbox" among other things in my past. Very hard to hide from the chat box. The question is asked, there's no time to go search what other folks think, this is real time. Only seconds should be between chat box replies. This one is made for me. In the chat box one has to be quick on their feet with stuff at the ready. This chat box is the worst nightmare of anyone trying to deal with ol' teach.

  • By pmurT

hey @teacher that sounds like too much work for me LOL I need that useless thing called *time* in order to authenticate facts and truths which get posted by deceitful Dems

  • What does the red number refer to? currently, on my screen it says 2

  • Where does it say 2?

  • So. In the chat....if you tag a member the text afterwards should be a private message.

If I'm online and the powers that be can figure out how to make it immediately apparent to me that whatever I've said here has been replied to I'm gonna show up right quick and kick some teeth in. It's the chat box, all this is new and scary. I know this gig. This starts now.
