We're about to see some Republican hypocrisy

Texas' Republican Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn voted against providing aid to the victims of Hurricane Sandy in early 2013. They don't believe that helping hurricane victims is a federal responsibility. They also don't like spending federal money in general, especially not in chunks of $50 billion, which the Sandy bill appropriated. Besides, the brunt of Sandy was felt in New Jersey, a blue state in which neither senator is terribly interested.

Now the shoe—no, make that the hip boot—is on the other foot/leg. The FEMA disaster relief fund has only $3.8 billion in it but the damage from Hurricane Harvey, which is expected to devastate the Texas coast, is probably going to be many times that. Undoubtedly someone will introduce a bill in Congress to help the victims of Harvey and rebuild the coast. The big question here is will Cruz, who is up for reelection in 2018, stick to his principles and vote against the bill, or will he go for political opportunism and support it? Either way he is going to come in for lots of criticism.

It will hardly surprise anyone when these two "principled" Southern gentlemen suddenly sing a different tune about federal aid, for voters in their state.  But when their cush jobs are not on the line, and natural disaster victims from other states are made homeless and bereft, they hold themselves to a higher morality of thrift and fiscal restraint.

Man - we all have to say a prayer for those dealing with Harvey - it's a bad one! Ted Cruz is another one of them dudes who needs to stay far away, out of public service. No body likes the guy in the Senate. I wonder why?

Peace!

You know the old saying: There are no atheists in foxholes. I’ve got a new one: We’re all socialists after a natural disaster. Even Texas Senator Ted Cruz. The hypocrite who tried to block Hurricane Sandy aid to the East Coast in 2012 is now demanding the federal government expedite emergency funds for the survivors of Hurricane Harvey along the Gulf Coast of Texas, and in Houston, the nation’s fourth-largest city. East Coast Democrats are happy to help, though New Jersey Governor Chris Christie tried to renew his relevance by beefing with his party mate over his Sandy selfishness. The Washington Post gave Cruz three Pinocchios for claiming on Monday that he blocked Sandy aid only because it was larded with pork. It was not. But even in a disaster, Cruz can’t help lying.

if this doesn't open conservative voters' eyes I don't know what will

But they don't get their news from reliable sources.  They get it mostly from Conservative provocateur-entertainers like Rush Limbaugh and Faux News, which withholds pertinent facts along with spinning outright lies, mixed in with factual information, to lend it a facade of authenticity.  Most will never be convinced that their favorite talking-head/politician in the Right Wing Noise Machine is a serial liar.

When exposed to the truth, their conditioning interprets it as "fake news".  Der Trumpkopfk is carrying this to a new level, using the prestige of his office to claim anything information he doesn't like is "fake news".

The Nation will have to do a lot of recovering after this bleak period we have entered into.

All mainstream news is fake news. MSNBC, CNN, FOX.......every one of them has an agenda. I love how they all have to have one or two AA's to be "experts", when they are some of the least qualified. Don Lemon is a drunk, Juan Williams is an idiot.  I agree with Al Sharpton on a lot, but even he is a little out there (not really big on the LGBQT community).  To be honest, the most honest news source I've come across is rt.com

MSNBC spins left.  CNN, less so.  But their talking heads don't intentionally tell whoppers, like you hear on Fox.  On TV, Fox is in a category all by itself in the level of its deception.

MSNBC has been moving toward the center.  They fired labor advocate, Ed Schultz and truth-teller Cenk Uygur.  Both had good ratings.  MSNBC is owned by COMCAST  ...  One of six major Conservative-leaning corporations that dominate broadcasting in the US.

All of them (the major networks) are propaganda, pure and simple. I distrust CNN the most, then FOX, hen MSNBC.  All are horrible though.  And although I am liberal, I trust Sean Hannity over Rachel Maddow.  He is less emotional, which I like. Her reaction (although I agreed with her) on election night opened my eyes to the fact that she and her network are not unbiased.

i am strong in my beliefs (as you have seen lol), but I don't need someone like Maddow or Hannity to tell me how to feel, I can determine that myself.

Vehement anger often leads to simplistic interpretation, IMO.  Moderation and discipline over one's feelings are aids to understanding the complexity of most issues.

This shouldn't even be an issue.  They cannot possibly tell anyone how to feel, except for those who are predisposed to already agree, but need a spokesperson.

That makes sense. I guess that's why I stopped watching all of the networks (speaking to a group of like minded thinkers rather than just reportering the news)
