This guy puts the days events in little words even the Cheetos can understand and if just plain smart and funny.

Today's commentary

It’s easy to become mesmerized by The Donald Show in this year’s political circus, but it’s time for progressives to focus on the outer rings, where the Koch brothers, American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), and their corporate cohorts have laid siege to our state governments.

It’s not a coincidence that such a large flock of corporatists and right-wing ideologues now roosts in state offices and keeps pushing exactly the same anti-people rhetoric and tactics. Nor is their lockstep embrace of identical corporation-enthroning proposals the result of small minds thinking alike. More than a firefight here or an ambush there, the Koch-ALEC cabal have launched a massive, coordinated maneuver to conquer the countryside. If you doubt that the strategy has gone local, consider this fact: Even though the Kochs did not back a presidential campaign and said that they were concentrating on only a half dozen US Senate races last year, they deployed 1,600 paid political staffers into 38 states to drive elections and policy campaigns.

This is why we must pay attention: Donald Trump is not the only – or even the biggest – danger to our democratic republic. As Arn Pearson, general counsel of Center for Media Democracy, warns: “There are a lot of different parts of the Koch machine pulling on this oar. From their think tanks up through their elected officials, they’re pushing on it. Hard.” You might think this is madness, but madness – spurred by plutocratic greed – is the new American political reality. Just being progressive won’t stop it. We have to get aggressively progressive to confront and defeat the Kochheads in our states.

Rolling back the effects of the continuing decades-long attack on America’s ideal of the common good will take some work. To get started, check out Center for Media Democracy.

This consulting firm handpicks local, state, and federal candidates who share the Kochs' free-market, limited-government agenda, and groom them to win elections. "We seek out electable advocates of the freedom and opportunity agenda who will be forceful at both the policy and political levels," the company notes on its website.

Aegis says it can manage every aspect of a campaign, including advertising, direct mail, social media, and fundraising.

Aegis' president is Jeff Crank, a two-time failed Republican congressional candidate who ran the Colorado chapter of Americans for Prosperity and served as the chief operating officer of the national organization. The firm's six-person staff boasts two others with connections to the Kochs.

The group's lead strategist is Karl Crow, a former project coordinator for the Charles G. Koch Charitable Foundation, where he focused "on how political advocates for economic freedom are identified, trained, and promoted," according to his bio on Aegis' website.

Crow, who was scheduled to speak at an invite-only Koch donor summit in 2010 on the subject of voter mobilization, subsequently worked for Themis, the Koch brothers' voter microtargeting operation. Brad Stevens, the former state director for Americans for Prosperity-Nebraska, is Aegis' director of candidate identification.

I tried to read one of his books once. I had made an agreement with a leftist to read a book of his choosing, and he chose some crap written by Hightower, and he would read the Federalist Papers. I got about 2/3 of the way through the book as an act of will, but the authors thinking was so irrational and his conclusions so moronic that I gave up. I had thought that I could force myself to read anything, I had bragged about this ability as I had read all six volumes of Gibbon's reflections on the Roman empire, and I was surprised to learn that this belief, that I could read anything by force of will, was hubris. I need never again engage in such a torturous episode of intellectual self flagellation.
