Probably a smart move that benefits all of us. Obama had to act though.

Vladimir Putin Says Russia Will Not Deport U.S. Diplomats In Response To Hacking Sanctions

President Vladimir Putin said Moscow would not expel anyone in response to Washington’s decision to throw out 35 suspected Russian spies and sanction intelligence agencies it believes were involved in computer hacking in the 2016 presidential election.

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov earlier proposed expelling 35 U.S. diplomats after outgoing U.S. President Barack Obama ordered the expulsions and sanctions on Thursday.

But Putin said he would wait for the actions of President-elect Donald Trump, who will take office on Jan. 20, before deciding on any further steps in relations with the United States.

“We will not expel anyone,” Putin said in a statement on Friday. “While keeping the right for retaliatory measures, we will not descend to the level of ‘kitchen’, irresponsible diplomacy.”

He even invited the children of U.S. diplomats to a party in the Kremlin.

It was not clear whether Trump, who has repeatedly praised Putin and nominated people seen as friendly toward Moscow to senior administration posts, would seek to roll back the measures which mark a new post-Cold War low in U.S.-Russian ties.

Russian officials have portrayed the sanctions as a last act of a lame-duck president and suggested that Trump could reverse them when he takes over the White House.

“Further steps towards the restoration of Russian-American relations will be built on the basis of the policy which the administration of President D. Trump will carry out,” said Putin.

In a separate message of New Year congratulations to Trump, he said Russia-U.S. relations were an important factor for maintaining global safety and stability.

Yet we still have Trump as president.

Trump will deal with Putin. I think Putin and Trump can combine against jihadis. There were many chechins fighting with ISIS. I saw the Kurds kill and capture a few. It is too bad we have no say in the end game in Syria. One thing Trump can do immediately is renew dialog between Russian and US Generals. Oblameo cut that back. Putin has 2 wars going. Get something going against jihadis anywhere. Make some deals.

What is a "jihadi?" Anyone one fighting for their land, like in Iraq or Syria?

I am a big fan of the Kurds. They are a mixed religious ethnic group but they kill thousands of ISIS. They want a country. US Special Forces have been with them for years. They are attacking Turk border outposts. The YPJ may be communist. They control a large piece of Syria and have been bombed by the Russians.

The Kurds are Muslims, Christians, and probably a jew. They think of themselves as Kurds. The Peshmerga is a little organized ARMY. They kill islamic radicals by the boatload. They have engineers, captured armor and artillery. They wear uniforms. We trained them for years. US Special forces are learning what works. The Kurds have something to die for. Many Americans have gone over to fight alongside the Kurds. Brits and Aussies are there. I hope we could be an honest broker in a deal with the Kurds and Putin. Putin is calling the shots.

U.S.

McCain, Graham say they will seek 'stronger sanctions' on Russia

Republican Sens. John McCain and Lindsey Graham , two hawks on U.S. policy toward Russia, said they will lead the push in the upcoming Congress for sanctions on Moscow that are stronger than those the Obama administration announced Thursday.

"The retaliatory measures announced by the Obama administration today are long overdue. But ultimately, they are a small price for Russia to pay for its brazen attack on American democracy. We intend to lead the effort in the new Congress to impose stronger sanctions on Russia," the senators said in a joint statement Thursday.

Turkey hates the Kurds. Hard to see Kurds getting beyond that.

I mostly agree with that. Turks accuse YPG of being communist. That could be true. I followed them because they were exterminating ISIS. After all of it, a lot of them still smile. The woman fight alongside the men. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should we provide any more training after the war in Syria is over. Putin will be calling the shots concerning the Kurds
