As initially reported in Buzzfeed, Fortune, and now the New York Times editorial board, New York State Senator Brad Hoylman (D. 27th District) has tabled a bill that can fix some of the damage done by the 2016 election. This bill deserves and needs popular support.

The T.R.U.M.P. (Tax Returns Uniformly Made Public) Act, "would force candidates for president to release five years of tax returns to the New York State board of elections no later than 50 days before the general election, which would in turn redact personal information and make the returns public.

Failure to comply with the legislation should it become law would prohibit the state’s electors from voting for that candidate and the candidate’s name would not appear on the New York state ballot."

As Hoylman states, Trump's refusal to disclose his returns have denied voters "an important perspective on the candidate’s potential conflicts of interests as well as their financial well-being and how much he gave to charity.”

With Russian interference in the 2016 election now an established fact, it is essential that Trump's tax returns be released. This bill will be a crucial lever in forcing that release. It could moreover could prove instrumental in restricting the reach of the incoming Trump administration.

Since the Republican administration and congress would be unlikely to act on this, this becomes a matter for the states. And thus New York, with its 31 electoral votes, can make a significant national impact with this legislation.

Please sign and share. Senator Hoylman is aware the petition is in process, and he has already expressed his thanks. Since the bill was first announced there have been similar bills introduced in California, Massachusetts, and Maine. There is a chance to make a real difference here. Your support matters!

The anti american radical right wing ALEC GOP has some long history of obstructing justice and stone walling.

Yes this dates back to the Nixon Watergate days and resurfaced again with gusto under Reagan/Bush and has since become policy.

"COVER UP DONALD" LAME DOANLD TRUMP

A magazine called the Economist has an “intelligence unit” that has named a Donald J. Trump presidency as one of the top 10 greatest risks to global stability. Communist China and jihadi terrorism also made the list.

But rather than identify security risks based on subjective criteria and personal biases, the media should insist that the FBI be given the power to conduct a comprehensive background check on U.S. presidential candidates, and release those results to the American people.

We should know by now that politicians can lie and engage in cover-ups. Just look at the GOP Dennis Hastert hush-money and child abuse case. His cover-up went on for decades.

The American people have every right to insist that candidates be investigated by the FBI and that the results be disclosed publicly. Currently, candidates for federal office, including for the presidency and Congress, don’t have to go through background checks. Instead, the media are supposed to conduct inquiries for the benefit of the people. Too often they fail to do so.

Former FBI agent Max Noel has said the Bureau used to investigate candidates for federal employment—but not candidates for federal office—by analyzing Character, Associates, Reputation, and Loyalty to the United States. The first letters in those words make up the acronym CARL.

It’s never too late, however, to apply the CARL test to Donald J. Trump.

Trumps pro-Russian views and hiring of pro-Russian advisers have raised red flags in the national security community about whether he can be trusted to handle classified information. There’s also the matter of his mental abilities and intellectual prowess.

Trump may himself be a Trojan horse. He is not vetted by the FBI. He has produced some paperwork, such as a financial disclosure form, which was required by law but has not been audited for accuracy. He refuses to release his tax returns, using as an excuse that he is facing an IRS audit. Newsweek RECENTLY published a major article on his mobster connections. One has to assume there is much more damaging information.

The Washington Post is correct that Trump is every thing but transparent .

It has now been confirmed that Trump has 378 entities registeredin the state of Delaware, a legal maneuver that can be used to assure corporate secrecy and hide income. Hillary Clinton has taken advantage of the same loophole, but to a lesser extent.

Trump has released a “health record,” a laughable four-paragraph summary referring to his “astonishingly excellent” physical health.

With Trump, who has made the kind of money Hillary and Bill Clinton only dream about, not only do his tax returns remain private and his mobster ties generate controversy, his dealings with the old Soviet Union and Russia continue to remain a subject of deep concern. The Russians are ecstatic over the possibility that he will pull the plug on NATO and U.S. allies in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

The implication is that the media gave Trump a free ride because they wanted him to be the Republican nominee.

Trump’s tax returns, ties to mobsters, and a relationship with Russian billionaire Aras Agalarov, an associate of Vladimir Putin, are all subjects that the American people have a right to know much more about.

He is “Cover-up Donald.”

The fake uproar is that they are in the irs possession..... And they haven't found anything.

How do you know this ???

BTW they can be made public even while under audit and besides he could produce some previous years returns if that is his excuse.....

Since NY is a Dem state, we are shooting ourselves in the foot, our candidate has to show, and theirs won't run in NY to avoid the hassle.

Best bet is let this set a precedence that will forever fuck them in the ass, because they will have nothing to bring up on our candidate. We might get creative and have a federal judge block all kinds of candidate data from being released, including birth certificates. Force cons to attack our issues and not our candidate.

So yeah, I favor leaving it alone.

The candidates are required to produce tax forms. Simply because the IRS has them is no indication that nothing is wrong.

Perhaps Donald has not been filing? Perhaps it will take a while to complete a audit if their is massive paperwork to investigate.

Right Wing GOP cover up = Trump Refusal to Provide Tax Form

That's right, and there isn't a damn thing you impotent liberals can do about it, other than to suck my dick.

The candidates are required to produce tax forms.

Nope. There is no law requiring candidates to produce their tax forms.

You're not only a liar, but a bad one.

Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter David Cay Johnston says his new book is “basically everything Donald Trump wants to make sure you do not know."

His just-released book,The Making of Donald Trump, is a 288-page compendium of “basically everything Donald Trump wants to make sure you do not know,” said Johnston, who has been following the real estate mogul for decades.

The main reason he has “been extremely critical of my colleagues,” in the media Johnston said, is they’ve been too buttoned-down and professional. “They’re covering him as though he is a serious person,” Johnston said of the Republican presidential nominee. Though Johnston believes there has been some good coverage of Trump, he faulted it for being too highbrow, “not written in tabloid style.”

“Donald is a master of manipulating the conventions of journalism,” explained the veteran reporter. He proceeded to shatter many of those conventions in a book talk that was frequently punctuated with the declaration “because Donald just makes it up.” Johnston also repeatedly dubbed Trump “a modern-day P.T. Barnum.” The book by the former New York Timesman book already has provided fodder for the tabloids.

It chronicles the rise of Trump’s fortunes, beginning with the Republican presidential nominee’s grandfather, a German immigrant who, as Johnston put it in distinctly un-Timesian style, ran a “whorehouse,” and continuing through Trump’s father, whom Johnston described as an industrious businessman with some unfortunate views.

We have never had a major party candidate for president with the kinds of relationships Donald Trump has. — DAVID CAY JOHNSTON

In 1927, Fred Trump was arrested at a Ku Klux Klan meeting in Queens — something his son has tried furiously to deny, but, said Johnston: “I have the clips.” Later, as Johnston details in his book, the elder Trump, in trouble once before with the feds for allegedly bilking a federal housing program for returning GIs, was ordered by the federal authorities to stop discriminating against African-Americans who were trying to rent apartments he owned. The settlement came only after Donald Trump tried unsuccessfully to get the allegations of racial bias thrown out by the courts — a lawsuit in which he was represented by Roy Cohn, former longtime aide to Sen. Joseph McCarthy (R-WI), the disgraced Communist witch-hunt perpetrator.

Johnston sees Trump’s association with Cohn — who, he said, “taught Donald how to hurt people”— as part of a disturbing pattern. “We have never had a major party candidate for president with the kind of relationships Donald Trump has,” Johnston said. While some past presidents have had unsavory friends and business associations, Johnston continued, “They were not the mob. They were not drug traffickers.”

At the Press Club event, Johnston raised repeated questions about Trump’s ties to Felix Sater, a Russian-born stock fraudster and admitted fellow traveller with the mob. Sater is now a defendant in a tax fraud case; papers unsealed earlier this month name Trump and two of his children as “material witnesses.”

He invited his audience to contrast the treatment Trump gave a convicted drug dealer who ran a company that operated Trump’s helicopter fleet with what he did to his infant great-nephew, gravely ill with an ailment that caused seizures.

For his troubled helicopter provider, Joey Weichselbaum, the real estate mogul provided a luxury apartment, continued employment and a testimonial to the court after the Weichselbaum’s indictment for drug trafficking, Johnston recounts in his book. But Trump was much less accommodating to the grandson of his late older brother after the baby’s parents challenged the will of his father, Fred Trump (which cut them out), in court. Trump removed the ailing child from the family’s medical insurance policy. “I can’t help that,” Johnston quotes Trump telling a New York Daily News reporter who asked why he cut off the infant’s health care coverage (a court later restored it).

Now I go out of my way to make her life miserable. — DONALD TRUMP

Vindictiveness is a point of pride for Trump, Johnston said. “His personal motto is ‘get revenge,’” said the reporter, who devotes an entire chapter to Trump’s speechifying and writings on the subject. Describing how Trump fired a female employee who, citing ethical qualms, wouldn’t call a banker friend on his behalf, Johnston quotes Trump’s own account from his book, Think Big:

Donald Trump is the first major-party Presidential candidate in modern times who refused to release his tax returns. During the campaign, the Faker-in-Chief’s first cover story was that he couldn’t release his tax returns because he was being audited. The IRS refuted that.

The Liar-in-Chief’s second cover story was that he would release his returns when Hillary Clinton released her e-mails. Until it was pointed out that she had released her e-mails.

The Cheater-in-Chief’s third story was that he paid lots of income taxes, an amazing amount of income taxes, a bigly amount, a terrible and yet super-classy amount. Until the NY Times actually released a couple of his items, showing him paying nothing.

It's always good to know how bigly a bigly liar Trump really is. AND how dishonest ‘Dishonest Donald’ has been.
