So far, the defining trait of the incoming Trump administration is its staffing with extremists dedicated to destroying the agencies they are supposed to head. Friday was no exception, as President-elect Trump made the latest addition to his Kamikaze Cabinet by selecting South Carolina Republican Congressman Mick Mulvaney to direct the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).

Rep. Mulvaney, after all, didn't just pledge to vote against any increase in the nation's debt ceiling. As it turns out, the Freedom Caucus fanatic has rejected the inescapable truth that the United States of America would default by failing to do so. And with President Trump forecast to bleed $15 trillion in new red ink over the next decade, Mick Mulvaney as the Director of Default Denial risks an American—and a global—economic catastrophe.

You don't have to take my word. Just ask the best and brightest of the Republican Party.

As you'll recall, the U.S. debt limit places a cap on Uncle Sam's borrowing authority. From 1980 to 2010, presidents and congressional majorities from both parties routinely raised the debt ceiling to enable the Treasury to borrow more money to pay the bills the federal government had already incurred.

This was the case when Ronald Reagan tripled the national debt during his eight years in office. After 17 debt ceiling hikes during Reagan's tenure, George W. Bush required seven more as he nearly doubled the U.S. national debt again.

Failure to raise the debt ceiling would immediately jeopardize the full faith and credit of the United States and thus trigger a sovereign default. That's why Rep. Paul Ryan warned, "Yes, you can't not raise the debt ceiling. Default is the unworkable solution." As then-new Speaker John Boehner put it six years ago:

"That would be a financial disaster, not only for our country but for the worldwide economy. Remember, the American people on Election Day said, 'we want to cut spending and we want to create jobs.' And you can't create jobs if you default on the federal debt."

Nevertheless, when the GOP took over the House of Representatives after the 2010 midterm elections, Republicans decided to extort President Obama by taking the debt ceiling hostage. And some, like Rep. Mick Mulvaney, went a step further. As The Hill reported in December 2010:

Rep.-elect Mick Mulvaney (R-S.C.), who defeated current House Budget Chairman John Spratt (D-S.C.) in November, said he would vote against any attempt to raise the nation's debt ceiling.

"I have heard people say that if we don't do it it will be the end of the world," he said. "I have yet to meet someone who can articulate the negative consequences."

Mulvaney said that 2011 spending needs to be reduced to 2008 discretionary levels, and argued that the demise of the omnibus offers that opportunity.

Mulvaney was simply lying, as the statements of the GOP leadership made clear. But as the debt ceiling crisis reached the point of no return in the summer of 2011, warning lights worldwide were flashing red.....

oblame doubled the debt. 10 trillion dollars more from oblameo. Dems had NO PROBLEMO as oblameo ran up the total. Now racist dems have a problem with debt? hahahaha. Debt is a racist dems hypocritical sinkhole. When racist dems mention debt all the GOP has to reply is Barry Sotero. BARRY SOTERO. Racist demdopes are in a real hurt when it comes to debt.

CUT the WASTE, ELIMINATE the CORRUPTION !!

Define what is actually corrupted everywhere society tries to over rule natural balancing within theories and theologies?

skewed can't help himself. :)

I know. But from one human to another, I have to explain why his ideology is misdirecting. It is the only way I understand how to be honestly compassionate in showing ancestry is each ancestor's creator as alive here now. Its better than believing anything else is possible as I can live knowing my physical limitations of only existing here in the moment as simultaneously spaced apart, conceived to extinction of this species.

Nothing supernatural, extraterrrestrial about it. Just simple self containment by being spaced apart now eternally sustaining every detail molecularly composed as inorganic or organic results in plain sight lost in plane psychological class warfare done philosophically.

We're $20 Trillion in debt. Trump hires someone who actually understands this to be a problem, and liberals think it's a bad thing.

No. Really.

Worse, leftists don't understand the difference between debt obligations and entitlement spending.

There was never any danger of defaulting on the national debut, but there was a danger that millions of Democrat voters would not get their welfare checks or "free" healthcare or funded tax credits.

Somehow, not funding Democrat promises to pay off Democrat voters with other peoples money is construed as defaulting on the national debt when the federal governments ongoing tax revenues are more than sufficient to easily service all of the federal government debt obligations.

Safe Travels,

Richard

Ignorance is a result of ignoring while theories lead away from the self evident as much as believing life doesn't originate and end while only occupying the moment here.

Lets prove now isn't Eternity using universal constants that never budge. I start a list. dawn, noon, dusk, midnight, new moon, first quarter, full moon, third quarter, solstice, equinox, solstice, equinox, 365, 365, 365, 366, plant, animal, predator, prey, male, female, 8 great granparents, reduced by natural selection into 4 grandparents, contracting into 2 parents of each ancestor added regardless plant, animal, predator, prey, asexual, male, female in this atmosphere ever past, current, future.

specific gravity created within molecular migration never stationary and inverting between inorganic and organic results within this planet's atmosphere.

I didn't invent the idea about energy cannot be created or destroyed while everything changes in shape and form, NOW. So in reality when science suggests the universe is ever expanding, is that just details never the same again within the containment of being spaced apart now?

You will spend your entire lifetime or ancestry trying to prove this isn't completely accurate at the simplest way everything works in plain sight, seen or never recognized intellectually as a whole population of one species in this atmosphere.

The inability to discriminate between entitlement spending and servicing the debt is exactly the kind of ignorance the article was perpetuating.

If, after paying all of the governments debt obligations, such as treasury bills, we don't have enough cash to write all the welfare checks, such as for Social Security, then that is not defaulting on the national debt.

So I guess Reagan was ignorant when he raised the ceiling 17 times right?

So Standards and Poors, the OBM, and the IMF, are all leftist ideologues that don't understand economics like a brainiac like you right?

The Budget Control Act, the same agreement which imposed the "sequester" on future federal spending, included a deal to raise the debt ceiling. Nevertheless, America paid a price as the GOP's manufactured uncertainty over the economy stifled job creation, drove down consumer confidence and led Standard & Poor's to lower Uncle Sam's credit rating. It's with good reason the Republican blackmail came to be known as the "Tea Party Downgrade."

It's more than obvious where the debt comes from, credit downgrades come from, and crippling recessions come from.

Republican governance. If it's one thing I don't need, it's another assclown Republican from a poor southern state giving anyone advice on economics.

I just hope the next Democratic President does have as deep a hole to dig out of, as the last Republican left Obama to dig out of.

I've already made the move with my investments, because I know better. But hey, it's your money. Keep the faith my friend.

Social Security isn't welfare shit for brains. Now take your seat.

Next dumbass step up and respond.

Not paying attention to anything I said, correct? Just continuing with your political montra. I am a compassionate sole that shows no mercy to one's soul collective(ideology), not ancestry misdirected historically.

do you grasp how easy I am making change occur like never before since the dawn of civilization educating humans to ignore the self evident on a global scale?

Can you imagine being dishonest doesn't have to corrupt everything naturally balanced here now. The power of understanding self containment vs the eternal energy used denying self evident results as biologically positioned in this atmosphere.

Just google welfare ...

ˈwelˌfer/
noun
  1. the health, happiness, and fortunes of a person or group.
"they don't give a damn about the welfare of their families"
    • statutory procedure or social effort designed to promote the basic physical and material well-being of people in need.
"the protection of rights to education, housing, and welfare"
    • NORTH AMERICAN
financial support given to people in need.
      synonyms: social security, social assistance, benefit, public assistance;

      Emphasis added.

Welfare is inclusive of a broad range of social programs, including "entitlements" such as Social Security, Medicare, food stamps and so on. None of these programs are part of the public debt and not having enough cash to write all these welfare checks is not defaulting on the debt no matter how insistent socialists demand that it is.

      Please grow a brain.

I would have thought Daily kos would have given the president elect some latitude and his agenda a chance. It's like, they WANT him to fail.

I know right.

Kind of like Rush Limbaugh, the tea party, and Republicans that held a meeting vowing to block Obama from day one, and then went on to do just that with the most historical, and unprecedented obstruction of a President by Congress in history.

It's like what goes around comes around or something.

I'm sure the Democrats won't do what they bitched about for eight years. I'm sure they'll give Trump their full backing.

Anything less would be, of course, completely hypocritical.

When you think you can shut down the government to score political points, and down grade the country's credit rating.

You're not extreme, You're a fucking lunatic.

Do I see the denial and the blame game taking place here? Back to your ideology has nothing left, right?
