Working definition of 'Fake News'?

Recommended Posts

Can we as a forum agree on a definition of 'fake news'?

Can we agree that there is nothing new under the sun with regard to this?

To me the term 'fake news' applies to things like The Onion, comedy central etc. where the news is parodied.

While it is good to call out lies of omission/commission in the sources we use, that doesn't necessarily make it 'fake' per se.

How would YOU define 'fake news', specifically?

one word or two. Humanity and reality. Anything supporting beliefs rather than acknowledging why and how this moment eternally separates details eternally as added now and only here in this moment universally.

No beginning and no end in sight by theories or theologies, just the constant chaos of organized denial and orchestrated confusion among ancestry and ancestors globally.

Clearly we aren't talking about satirical sites when it comes to fake news in the current context. There is a world of difference.

For one, satire and parody usually have truth to them, and it's generally very clear to the reader that it is satire.

Fake news comes under the guise of real news, has no truth to it, and is strictly a propaganda tool, a weapon intended to inflict harm upon the subject of the fake news.

The Hillary pizza parlor child prostitution ring = fake news. Not funny, completely untrue, and real damage was done.

The Onion = readers known it's not real (at least, most of them), it's funny, and it there's generally some morsel of truth buried in there.

Thank you for your thoughtful response.

So I assume you would agree that opinion shows cannot be considered 'fake news' either? To me this all just comes down to a decent understanding of the facts combined with good critical thinking skills. Frankly there are so many articles published as 'news' articles from supposedly objective sources that contain misleading, but perhaps true, facts presented in an overtly biased way.

The whole "fake news" crap liberals invented so they don't have to face the fact they lost is pathetic. Grow up you pussies. You lost

Yep.

Having to 'read between the lines', so to speak, has been required since the Bedrock Times reported it's first story.
