What a progressive movement needs is a clear economic agenda for worki

Sanders said it quite explicitly. The Democratic Party had been co-opted by corporate interests and had morphed into the party of the top 1%.

During his campaign, here named to very explicit policies that were initiated by Clinton and his fellow corporate neo-libetals, that need to be reversed:

1) Free Trade (really free slave) agreements which were nothing more than giant union busting laws.

2) The repeal of Glass-Steagall which enabled the Banks to lend as much money to top 1% as the top 1% wantedat 0%. With the money corporations built factories wherever cheap labor existed, bought back their own stocks, and co-opted political leaders of all stripes.

In addition, what progressives need to do is to rollback all heinous criminalization laws passed under Clinton that enabled massive incarceration of the minority classes and destroyed the economic hopes of the emerging working class.

I agree with all you've said here RichF. How can we call ourselves "Land Of The Free", with the highest incarceration rate in the world. Bar none. We need to reform our entire justice system including the double standard with one set of rules for corporations and the super rich and another for everyone else.

During and since the Clinton administration, the Democratic Party has joined forces with the Republicans, supporting the interests of corporations and the Plutocracy, to the economic detriment of the vast majority of ordinary Americans. As a result, all new wealth is going to the very top. For the rest, standards of living are falling and the middle class is disappearing. And labor unions are being wiped out.

In this election cycle, those that even bothered to vote were so fed up with the corruption in both parties, that many placed their faith in an authoritarian political outsider, who just happens to be a misogynistic, sociopathic con-artist .... And a danger to the US and the entire World.

Totally agree. The Democratic Party sold out the working class and minorities for a few bucks on the stock market. We have an opportunity now to reclaim our roots. One only needs to visit 7 of the richest counties in the U.S. That surrounds D.C., Inc. to understand where all of the money has been flowing, and it hasn't been to Flint, MI.

"The Democratic Party had been co-opted by corporate interests and had morphed into the party of the top 1%."

I agree with Sanders on this point.

Right now however, I am pessimistic about any progress on this.

Even if the Dem's were in control Presidency with a progressive candidate,

AND

controlled the Senate, AND All these Senators were as progressive as Sen. Sanders,

AND

all the current Democrats in the House were equally progressive,

THEN

Paul Ryan and the Houseful of Idiots would block action on either of these issues. If for no other reason than obstructionism.

Quite a tall order. Not that I have thrown in the towel on trying to change the direction of the Democratic Party, just being realistic.

Ironically, (and I am trying not to barf, gag, heave, hurl, puke, retch, spew, vomit, disgorge, or regurgitate):

It might actually be an easier, and quicker path for Trump to push these items through. The smart strategy for Democrats would be to let Trump propose repealing Trade agreements, and Glass-Steagal, vehemently oppose it, and put the House Idiots in the position of agreeing with Democrats and opposing Trump.

Of course this would not be good for getting Democrats elected in future election cycles, but things aren't so great now, are they?

If the goal is to help working class Americans, then whatever means should be considered.

Insofar as economic policies are concerned, I believe the most likely path for Trump is to do exactly as Obama did and exactly what Clinton would have done, i.e. spend $trillions, most of which falls right in the lap of politicos in D.C., Inc. and the Top 1%. On this agenda, Democratic and Republican politicos quickly agree and come together on. It is creating a fair and unrigged economy that scares both parties as currently constituted. If the middle class wants to reverse the current flood of money from the middle class to the Top1%, it will be necessary to take back the Democratic Party or form a new party.

We NEED an ABILITY to both motivate the DEM base AND win a lot more votes in the areas that went RED. In this Area.. CITIES went BLUE, but ALL the space between was red.

where was our things for the SMALL TOWNS/Small business/Farmers? In vast areas of the prairees.... or cornfeild counties in the mid west... there's NO Muslims and no transgenders. I'm FOR full civil rights for ALL but Dems really talked too MUCH about stuff that's NOT what wins the game.

We do NOT want to get OWNED by Big Corporations, Big Wall St.. BUT...lets be realistic... Dems DO need $$ to run. The Financial sector and Corporations are BIG parts of the Economy. Try to keep them honest.. but don't make them ENEMIES. They don't LIKE The Trump/Teabag irrationality.

the Idea Bernie could have won? Maybe but in the red Counties, the red States......He's a Jewish Socialist. That's tough. Clinton's " Baggage" ? Mostly MYTH but if you repeat the HINTS of some mysterious "Scandal" evidently there's millions of suckers.

By 2018.... I really think A LOT of voters will rebel against trumpism and the WHOLE ugly FUBAR of the GOP. ALL House Seats will be on the Table. Dems need a clear and real MESSAGE. Stop Trump will..obviously be big but dems need a WORKABLE way to win in RED districts. IDEAL is Dems get the House.. then it's OUR turn to "investigate" all of Trumps crap (and there will be a LOT to look into)

Voting brought us to this unacceptable position, and I don't think voting can get us out of this mess. We need more than just voting to replace those in power. Before voting can even begin to make a difference we have to assure the voting is fair and above board. We can't vote out the people who have the power to control the count to their own ends.
