Unfortunately, human nature being what it is, all leading military nations, throughout history, have used their power to unfairly dominate others; Some more, some less. WWII left the US and the Soviet Union in a rivalry for supreme World power. So far, we appear to have won, but the struggle continues, with China now flexing its muscles also.

Most American Conservatives take dominance struggles for granted and are thankful they live in the most powerful bully nation of them all.

But many on the Left are appalled by our military excesses. Many of us want our Country to limit the use of our military to the judicious and surgical, for the purpose of preventing warlike groups from pursuing their own excesses. Others on the left are either Pacifists or want our military limited to defense of the homeland, only.

On the domestic front, perhaps the most important yardstick of a great nation is how it treats its own people, both socially and economically. FDR's legacy of economic egalitarianism lasted until the 1980s. After that, all of Nation's wealth gains were absorbed by corporations and the super rich. Standards of living deteriorated and the middle class began to disappear. Paradoxically, during that time, social equality seemed to make gains.

Three days ago, the Nation saw fit to elect a corrupt, racist bigot who, according to his own rhetoric, is a vicious warmonger. The election left the US with Conservative majorities in the Senate and House, and the ability to stack the Supreme Court in their favor. The same election saw the installation of an increased number of Conservative state governors and legislatures, allowing for even more gerrymandering, voter suppression and cheating at the polls.

The American people have now laid the groundwork for greatly decreased social freedoms and an accelerated economic divide between ordinary people and the elites. We may be the most militarily dominant nation in the world, but, by the standards of many here, we are far less great than perhaps forty years ago. Trump's slogan "Make America Great Again" is an inverted joke.

What the American voter has laid down is the groundwork for a dictatorship. Trump has previously stated the news media has too much freedom. Taking that away will be his first step. The American voter does not realize what monster they have released. I believe the future of this country as well as for the world is very dim. I hope I am wrong but I fear I am not

I don't love America. To me it's a hypocritical, warmongering, self righteous shit hole. It shouldn't be the leader of the world. Cause it's an ugly maker

I love America.

To me it's a fascinating, incredibly free, chaotic, mess. Lovely in places, ugly in places, and totally unpredictable.

Alternately generous, angry, dumb as rocks, brilliant, powerful, weak, petulant and forgiving. It's everything crammed into one big weird country.

It gave birth to Bob Dylan, John Birch, David Duke and Jane Fonda. Freedom means freedom to produce beauty, but also freedom to display ugliness.

I could live in Canada, Germany, or Israel, but I never will. I love America.

I do not think that Trump has the power to muzzle the press.

We shall see.

This country has the capacity for greatness and certainly the resources for it. But from the beginning, it has been ruled by a wealthy few for their own benefit.

He won't come out with some edict stating that the press can no longer treat him unfairly.

But it wouldn't take a whole lot because the media is owned by just a small handful of giant corporations. So maybe agents will visit the homes of corporate executives at 3 in the morning for a "talk." And from there, suddenly we would see TV new anchors who are "fair" to Herr Drumpf.

Do I think it'll happen? Most likely not.

But could it? Yeah, I'm afraid it really could.

There is an enormous element in this country that I didn't think existed to the extent that it does. It's an element that would gleefully crush the rights of others. Were it not next to impossible, I really would try to move to Australia or Europe. Canada's too close. I've never said that before, but now I do genuinely fear what's going to happen.

I don't particularly love America. But I was born here and will almost surely die here. In between, I've lived in and seen many other nations. America Land Of The Free is largely a myth .... We spend more on jails than on education and have the highest incarceration rate in the world, by far. In violation of the Constitution, the Patriot Act allows secret arrest and imprisonment without representation. And the increasing militarization of the police should be a warning to all citizens.

Compared to some other, more enlightened First World nations:--- There is too much old-time religion and too much disrespect of science. Too little value placed on education and a gigantic cult of ignorance, too much bigotry, too little economic parity. And the icing on the cake has been endless war since 1950.

And now Trump and a Republican sweep of the federal government. With significant gains at the state level.

I suppose, from what he's said, Trump and the Republican congress will fire up the coal plants, build new ones and either declaw or abolish the EPA. Maybe share nukes with Japan, South Korea or others. Perhaps even drop them on our enemies.

I'm of a similar mind with Opoponax: If I were younger I would move to New Zealand or Australia. I have entertained the thought in the past but never followed through.

Well, on the political front, there's only one thing to do now. Try to get collectively out of this predicament.. Preferably within four years.

A nation of violent prudes. Most of em Jeezus huffers and the rest on some sorta drugs, both legal or otherwise. Some cheesy commercial every seven minute to interrupt our entertainment news. Gotta file for a freedom of information suit to find out what's being done in our name, while the gov works endlessly to implant a surveillance camera up your ass. Cause they are scared.

Don't know what the hell they are scared off though. A nation of little pissants that was easily dispossessed of their wealth and their voice by the dumbest mofos in a suit. Bush and Trump.

1. Why don't you leave then, if you dislike America so much? Hundreds of millions of people around the world want to come here. So naturally we have ingrates like you who have no clue of your good fortune. No clue.

2. Too much "religion." Spoken like a true socialist. How did that political scheme work throughout history? Oh, 100,000,000 citizens killed, and counting. How about North Korea for you?

The Ivy League colleges were founded by Christians. How many atheist colleges do you have? Oh that's right, zero.

Your pretense of Christianity and science being mutually exclusive is one of the biggest lies being parroted by the left. And that is saying a lot.

As to bigotry, nobody is more intolerant than Leftists. Nobody. Your own hatred and venom spewed over America makes that clear.

3. The global warming scam is another of the big lies parroted by the left, as a means of redistributing our wealth, and controlling the little people you think yourselves so far above. http://TheGlobalWarmingFraud.wordpress.com

4. You Leftists said Ronald Reagan would "start World War III." To the contrary, he ended the Cold War.

He said "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall," and it was so. All your big lies to the contrary will never change that fact.

Zaro, from Michigan, home of Detroit, the third world craphole run by Democrats for fifty years.

And you would know about dumb mofos.... how?

Despite all of it's contradictions and injustices past and present it's basic commitment to individual liberty is its great virtue. As a people we have demonstrated the capacity to reform and ensure that liberty for more people through all kinds of struggles for social chang. Think about it.

Native Americans remain despite a brutal genocide at our founding and westward expansion. They continue to fight for justice and dignity forcing us to recognize how we have wronged them and find a just solution.

Slavery and Jim Crow did not destroy Black Americans instead biracial struggles by abolitionists and civil rights activists ended these injustices and blacks are better off now than any time in history despite the very real problems that remain.

The American Woman can vote, work any job, hold office, own a business, and divorce a husband. Because of the Women's Suffrage Movement from the 19th to early 20th century and The Modern Women's Movement in the 1970s American women enjoy freedom and prosperity unrivaled anywhere in the world.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and more Transgendered people are becoming more accepted and legally able to live free as equal citizens in less time than it has taken to overcome racism and sexism. Much work must still be done but America is getting there.

Despite the very serious problems with our economy we've made capitalism work without democratic socialism thanks to Social Security, Medicare, the Earned Income Tax Credit, Unemployment Insurance, Pell Grants, The Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act , Dodd- Frank Financial Regulation, and Minimum Wages Increases at the state and local levels.

Moreover we have people here from every continent and nation on earth living free and making the most of their lives. Practicing their religion or not. Changing their faith or spirituality, marrying across racial and ethnic lines, working , creating art , literature, new forms of culture, and able to be whatever or whoever they choose to be. No mass protests can topple elected officials. The military has never removed a President because it's officers opposed him.

We have some major problems and sometimes it's easy to doubt and give in to anger but we have and will continue to work things out for the best for all Americans.

I love America

Americans are not poor by international standards. There are at least a million children in the Dominican Republic that do not attend school because they cannot afford the school uniform or proper shoes. The public schools are run in four-hour shifts, and the students are not taught much. Haiti is much, much worse, and there are countries even poorer than Haiti.

Poor Americans are often treated like criminals, it is true.

True. Compared to citizens many nations in the Third World, Americans are well-off. But by a steadily decreasing margin. It's the trend that has people worried, and there's no end in sight. Large numbers of Americans accurately see Third World type poverty at the end of this race to the bottom.

Ordinary people have watched their standards of living decrease over the last 40 years .... More adult children still living at home .... Both spouses having to work two or three jobs to make ends meet ... Putting off health care .... No prospect of affording a higher education for their children.

People, by and large, are not stupid. They know their parents enjoyed much better prospects then them. They can see the trend and where it's leading. Society is unraveling at the seams and many rightfully blame politics as usual. Which goes far to explain the "unexpected" appeal of Bernie and Trump in this election.

To all the thousands of protesters on the streets now and the millions who reject hate and division as the the political operative phenomenon to achieve power:

We have to push back on any and all policies, appointments and actions that Trump does that promote division in this country.

One of the first decisions he made is appointing Preibus and Bannon as COS and chief strategist.

Bannon cannot be part of any administration., not today., not tomorrow., not ever.

His alt-right views qualify him as 'Enemy of the state" and a "threat to this republic"

Liberals unite and oppose this.

Stop Steve Bannon.

Steve Bannon is the human form in other words the personification of what is wrong with a Trump administration.

This battle to stop Bannon entering the White House is a battle that I strongly believe that we should pick and is needed to send the strong signal the new administration needs to remind them that they are only in power because of an anachronistic electoral college and not a true reflection of people's wishes.

Yeah Reagan said it, but no, the Wall did not come crashing down after he said it in 1987 Nor did Gorbachev tear it down. That was done by the German people after Reagan had left office, in 1989. The East German government collapsed and Gorbachev refused to send troops to reinstate it.

The German people were far more opposed to the Wall that Reagan. and they had a lot more to do with it coming down.
