A Dark Day

Recommended Posts

I rarely post online. I’m not one to announce my thoughts to the digital world. I say the following knowing those on the other side of the aisle will find in inflammatory, but please know that is not my intent. To quote “The American President”, “America is advanced citizenship”. I believe that means that in order to earn our democracy, we must listen responsibly and strive to reach compromise. It is through this lens that I cannot understand last night’s decision.

I have lived most of my life in two states; one very Republican and the other very liberal. The past year, my Facebook feed has been representative of the divide from which our country is suffering. I know people I love and respect on both sides, as I assume many of you do as well.

Since Obama’s victory in 2008, I’ve watched the Republican Party devolve into a mixture of anger, racism, and sexism. I’ve watched the Republican Congress refuse to work with our President and other Democrats. I’ve watched atrocious rhetoric spewed in the name of our country and patriotism.

And this is where the biggest contradiction exists in the Republican Party; how can a party tout patriotism when its actions and rhetoric are the complete opposite? How can you claim patriotism when you refuse to govern? When you refuse to even try to understand the marginalized populations in this country? How can you claim patriotism when you refuse to compromise? Refuse to evaluate Supreme Court nominations? Patriotism is not just a pretty word to be used during the campaign trail to rile up a base – a base that is becoming alarmingly misinformed. Patriotism exists when you stand up for the principles upon which this country was founded, and it’s strengthened when doing so is at odds with your own beliefs. I no longer see this type of patriotism, this type of courage, in the Republican Party.

Republicans are attacking human rights, such as marriage equality; rights guaranteed by the Constitution through the clear separation of church and state. And they do so because it doesn’t align with their beliefs. Patriots realize that the Constitution trumps their individual beliefs, and they fight to preserve those rights. These rights should not be political, but the bedrock of our democracy.

Republicans are threatening the very fabric of freedom from religious persecution. Trump called for a Muslim band to rousing applause. Patriots protect religious freedom rather than persecute an entire population due to the actions of a few. His ban was to capitalize on fear and fuel anger. A patriot has the courage to resist fear and see through anger.

Republicans have been fanning the flames of racial divide. Leaders of a country are required to lead all and protect the “life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness” of each individual. To turn a blind eye to the marginalization of black America, or build a wall because of a stereotype, is to divide us. A true patriot guides us through it.

Tuesday was a dark day in our country’s history. Trump ran on a platform of hate, of us vs. them, and many Americans have a right to be worried. Our democracy is weakened because we chose against what the framers intended. It signifies a stark departure from what our country actually stands for, and the true perversion is that their base actually believes their vote got “their country back”. Our country was built upon the principle that a population with diverse backgrounds and different opinions can thrive given freedoms and the right to govern themselves. And yesterday we rewarded the party that is restricting freedoms and refusing to govern alongside those with different opinions.

A dark day, indeed.

- U.S. intelligence and law enforcement officials are warning that hackers with ties to Russia's intelligence services could try to undermine the credibility of the presidential election by posting documents online purporting to show evidence of voter fraud.

The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said however, that the U.S. election system is so large, diffuse and antiquated that hackers would not be able to change the outcome of the Nov. 8

Donald J. Trump Gettysburg Address

- the TRUTH -

and the first 100 day

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxdzmVjGLjg

Funny that your first post makes fun of liberals for being crybabies. You've just elected one of the biggest adult crybabies politics has ever seen. He can't take any criticism without an all out attack, and complains contests are rigged when things don't go his way. He complained the moderators were rude to him because he was asked tough questions during a presidential debate, and takes to Twitter constantly to complain and moan. He started spreading rumors the election would be rigged when it didn't seem things would go his way. How in the world does that not constitute being a crybaby in your mind? You definitely have blinders on if you don't see that your own candidate embodies what you're criticizing liberals of.

Thank you for your comments.

How old am I? I don't see how that is relevant unless of course you're implying my ideology or reasoning is immature.

So much for "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" for "EACH INDIVIDUAL": This is non-responsive to my comment. If you would like to open a separate thread to discuss at what point in gestation an individual life begins, I'm happy to respond. The comment in this post pertains to individual life where there is no debate.

Regarding your immigration link, it's very sad to see lives lost to violence, and those that committed those crimes should be punished. I wonder how long the list would be that captured the numner of citizens who died by the hands of other Americans. Should we start to ban entry to the racial or religious groups that those people belong to? If so, there wouldn't be a group that would be allowed entry. Furthermore, it appears that the Trump website removed this language from their website.

Regarding your comment about "the Muslim thing": First, your wording is very complimentary to your position. I think many watching our country from the outside would not characterize it as "wholesome". To reiterate my comment above, much of the violence in this country is committed by other Americans. Second, my initial comment didn't imply that all immigrants would be law-abiding citizens. In any population there will be those with a radical agenda, however, we cannot persecute the entire population because of the actions of a few. If we did, it would become very dangerous for every group in this country because all groups have those who commit violence.

Russia is not going to get away with this theft

Ever think Russia didn't steal it, just got blamed for it? We are talking the Hillary crowd now and they blamed Benghazi on some obscure video nobody knew about until after the deaths of 4 Americans.

Damned good thing the Obama administration was tightly connected to the artistic community to know about that documentary.

The OP is way off. By not allowing Obama and the dems take us totally down the liberal drain they are showing the ultimate patriotism. Knowing full well that going to far left will eliminate our constitution and protecting that most important piece of freedom is they're job and obligation to their country. The only way republicans and dems can get along is if they come back towards the middle a lot of bit and make some better decisions. They are running so fast to liberal socialism they're gonna run this country right off a cliff. If your not afraid of socialism then go back to school or do somthing to learn about it. It is the polar opposite of freedom.....somthing the voters obviously realize!

Thanks for writing.

I'm hoping you can elaborate when you state that "Obama and the dems" are taking "us totally down the liberal drain". Can you provide specifics on this, particularly how it will "eliminate our constitution"?

A complete re-interpretation to change the original intent to modern day intentions does eliminate what liberty and human rights represent. Human right to obey hypothetical values supercedes ancestral liberty to live as one of a kind.

OnlinePresident Obama sparred with his 2008 presidential opponent Sen. John McCain at the health care summit, telling the Arizona Republican "we're not campaigning anymore. The election's over." (watch the video at left)

The president was responding to McCain's comments in which he complained that the health care bill was not produced in the open, but "behind closed doors."

McCain complained of "unsavory" dealmaking to get the bill passed in the Senate, including promises to give special deals to residents of Louisiana, Nebraska and Florida. (Some of those provisions were removed in Mr. Obama's plan released Monday.)

He pointed to a number of issues, including the PhRMA deal and a provision mandating $100 million for a Connecticut hospital, asking "why should that happen?"

At one point, Mr. Obama tried to interject. "Can I just finish, please," McCain said, cutting off the president.

"People are angry," McCain said. "We promised them change in Washington, and what we got was a process that you and I both said we would change."

He called on Democrats to "go back to the beginning" and "remove all the special deals for the special interests and the favored few," adding that he favors a system in which "geography does not dictate what kind of health care."

A visibly annoyed Mr. Obama immediately responded, saying "we can spend the remainder of the time with our respective talking points going back and forth. We were supposed to be talking about insurance."

"We're not campaigning anymore," he told McCain. "The election's over." (Quipped McCain, laughing: "I'm reminded of that every day.")

A dark day, indeed.

What makes a day an actual day? when dawn happens again or doesn't happen at all?

ironic when honest ancestors curb corrupted absolute power, those supporting not understanding everything possible call it a dark day when corrupted ideology doesn't work anymore.

I look at Liberal Socialism this way, when Capitalism fails in it's ability to care for ALL Americans, it is time to right those wrongs with socialism. Socialist programs don't come about out of thin air, they come about when Americans are harmed. There isn't a thing wrong with modern day socialism but Conservative ignorance.

You think this was about racism and sexism? No, you MORON, this was about a crooked politician, who happened to be female, and who got away with committing just about every crime possible over a 30 year period ... until THE PEOPLE finally said enough is enough. This is about the failed economic and defense policies of the guy currently in office, who just happens to be black. This about a rejection of the socialism that your side has been pushing. This is about a rejection of BIG government. This is about a rejection of the bias of the Main Stream Media. This is about a rejection of the political correctness your side has been forcing on the rest of us. This about setting the ship back onto the path of greatness that our Founders envisioned. If you keep thinking this is about racism and sexism, you're going to lose the next election by an even bigger margin. And, frankly, I truly hope you do. So go back to munching popcorn while you watch your brethren riot. :D

Days are 24 hours and usually accompanied by a sunrise and sunset

Dark is caused by a lack of photons

invented interpretation that only applies to intellectual separation of actually real and reality as played out socially. Try again. Think about it, dawn is the line on the leading edge of this planet revolving aroud the star. Dusk is the trailing edge. Now the planet spining moves content passed those two and each side has one facing the star and one facing away from the center of the solar system.

Now humans invented this time thing am and pm. Now that creates 4 hemispheres of time between midnight, dawn, noon, dusk. while there are 4 hemispheres of geological positions on the surface of a spinning orb with a moon orbiting while revolving around the star of a spiralling solar system.

Ok lets add solstices and equinoxes of 4 seasons each side of the equator occuring in opposite durations of light and night. Don't forget everything is existing simultaneously in a space energy keeping everything specifically displaced isn't created or destroyed by the results displaced but maintaining being displaced as details never added again, now.

Critcial thinking shows that makes this moment physical eternity eternally separating the lifetimes added biologically in order from inception until the species is extinct. Hypothetical possibilities doesn't change it, just how ancestors preceive it intellectually choosing to ignore self evident results so symbolism has more meaning that actually being alive when living naturally displaced.

Bet you don't see where corruption begins and won't end until honesty prevails or extinction happens. You are voting for extinction to stop corruption.

to my thinking that reflects as an ancestor that loaths how life actually functions every breath they take.
