Realistic Path To Eliminating Electoral College by 2020

If states and territories totaling at least 270 electoral votes pass laws joining the National Popular Vote Compact, then the next presidential election will be determined by the winner of the national popular vote. We are already up to 165.

If we can make eliminating the Electoral College a national issue broadly adopted by elected Democrats, and if Democrats can do well at the state level in the 2018 midterm elections—which is realistic in the event of an unpopular President Trump—then in 2019 we can pass laws that would make the 2020 presidential election determined by the popular vote.

(Since you might be wondering, according to the compact, states do not change the way they determine their electoral votes until enough states join that the 270 electoral vote threshold is reached. So, for example, California will only start awarding its electoral votes to the national popular vote winner instead of the state popular vote winner once states equaling 270 electoral votes have decided to do the same.)

So this is something we can actually pull off. It starts by telling all elected Democrats that you have had enough of the Electoral College, and that whenever possible they must pass laws to have their states join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.

So please, sign if you agree: It's time we eliminate the Electoral College and choose our Presidents by national popular vote.

Only one thing to do. Don't vote third party people that don't have a chance in hell of winning. That is all that sunk Hillary last night. You knew by the end of the primary you didn't stand a chance in hell and should withdrawn.

I dunno.. I dont feel robbed. It's amazing how close this election was, 118 million votes and a difference of 200K! Amazing.. I feel like between voter fraud and just plain inconsistencies, if there was a contested election, we could fight it until we're blue in the face because no election is perfect. I may be wrong.. but I dont have a problem with the electoral college. California put the Dems over the top in the popular vote, you look at the margin of victory in that state. Think about regional politics, how many people are liberal just because they are born in Cali? I suppose I dont have a problem with the system, win your state. This is a Republic!

Well.. just like Trump voters did, the people who didnt vote for Hillary said F U to the Establishment. So maybe they dont care? I know Technocrat claimed he was rooting for Trump! haha.. I have a good friend who is very progressive, he was more fearful of a Hillary Presidency than a Trump!

Me? I voted for Hillary.. I dont really like her. I wanted to see Bernie win the primary, I do think populism is here to stay! Give it another major market correction and the movement will be unstoppable on the left and right.

Do you know what "end-run" means? What you don't provide is "why" this is better for the "Republic".

Another sore liberal who needs an education. Unlike liberals, these two videos explain WHY we have the electoral college system and your end-run around the constitution.

You may as well just admit you hate the Constitution and the people who created it.

COMPLETE FAIL

Their message is that "we need to FIX the election process". They want the word "fix" to mean repairing something that is broken, but what "fix" really means in their proposal is rigging the system to favor a side.

Just days ago the progs loved the electoral college because they ignorantly believed it favored Hillary. Now they want to get rid of it. We didn't win so the rules must be changed. How pathetic.

Liberals have been a disaster to the world....there is plenty of history to prove it. but yet they still believe...hahahahahaha Liberals...cant fix stupid.

Maine and some others distribute electoral votes by congressional district.

This would be as far as this idea should go.

Imagine California divided up.

That would be something.

The Electoral College is the very worst part of the Constitution, since slavery has been abolished.

The person with the most votes should always become president, regardless of party, period.

I disagree...

The College was created to allow states like Massachusetts as important as California...

All are important....

It's about states X.....

A democracy is not about acreage, it is about citizens. The person with the most votes should always win every election.

We have 50 states....

And our founding fathers realized that states had rights and citizens...

And their votes are just as important as a bigger states votes..

You need to separate the states and the citizens....

When you do you'll see the light

So move to a democracy. We ain't one. Or weren't you aware that we are a Representative Republic?

I think we should change our voting laws so that only people who work and pay taxes, can vote.

Why should people on the public dole be allowed to demand more free shit from those who work and pay for those handouts?

The Compact would be deemed Unconstitutional. To eliminate the Electoral College requires a Constitutional Amendment as how the President is elected is specifically set out in Article 2, Section 1.

Why do liberals so dislike the Constitution?
