Donald Trump camp caught accepting $2 million donation from China and promising influence in return

It’s illegal in the United States to accept foreign political donations, and it’s particularly egregious if you explicitly promise influence in return. Words like “corrupt” and “quid pro quo” and “pay for play” come to mind, if only because Donald Trump has repeatedly used those words to make false claims about his opponent. Now he’ll have to apply those words to himself, thanks to a stunning development involving a multimillion dollar donation from China and the promises that were made regarding it. It also turns out the Trump campaign and its allies may be particularly gullible.

One of Donald Trump’s Super PACs, which legally have no connection his campaign but unofficially serve as his fundraising arm of his campaign for wealthy donors, was offered a two million dollar contribution from a donor in China. Not only was the illegal foreign donation accepted, the donor was told in return that he would receive “influence” and that his contribution would be “remembered.”

But the bombshell story gets even more surreal, because it turns out the “donor in China” was actually part of a sting operation set up by a British newspaper, The Telegraph. It ended up catching the Trump Super PAC red handed, and exposed the entire scandal today, with just over two weeks remaining in the election and Trump falling behind by nearly double digits in the polls.

Because Super PACs are technically a separate legal entity from the candidate they work for, it’s likely that Donald Trump himself will be shielded from any legal repercussions unless it can be demonstrated that Trump was aware of this donation – which would also be a violation of federal Super PAC laws in and of itself. However, it comes as a huge and ill timed scandal for Donald Trump. As he’s fallen further behind Hillary Clinton in the Presidential election, he’s ramped up his false claims against her of corruption. And now it turns out his own side is explicitly guilty of precisely what he had been claiming about his opponent.

Did you read the entire article...?

It was a sting operation and they admit it's likely wouldn't have anything to do with Trump...

Nice try though

LOL, doesn't work that way legally. It is his campaign, he gets the bullet in court. Look at some past campaign abuse cases.

btw - Nice try.
