All-women crews from Europe set sail to break the Israeli blockade of the “open air prison/concentration camp” that bleeding heart leftists like to call Gaza today

The Myth: Squalor The Reality: Hard to keep up the facade of Gazans living in squalor when you see the facades of luxury condos, hotels, resorts, office buildings, shopping malls, etc. like these.

The Myth: Despair The Reality: Recreational facilities abound in this ‘open air prison,’ like the Olympic sized swimming pool and water parks that Gazans use when desperation sets in

Yow, a review of a luxury hotel; and I was under the impression the place looked like Dresden after the Brits & Yanks finished.

The Al Deira is a beautiful place (no, a palace I should say) to stay. It overlooks the sea. The view is simply spectacular. Though expensive, it is worth the stay. The rooms are simply lovely, well decorated and luxurious with all modern amenities. The beds are soft, with clean, high quality sheets. The bathroom is also modern, clean and looks great....

Point of fact:

When you actually read this link, it says:

Unfortunately, there is no luxury hotel available in Gaza directly. You may want to consider the hotels listed in the following section or to search for hotels close to Gaza.

The hotels pictured after that are all in Israel.

One listed is in a place (a resort town) called Bat Yam. In 2002, I was very near there, and learned that the name means "mermaid"; literally "daughter sea".

I'm willing to bet that more of those pictures aren't really from places in Gaza.

Now this, this is appalling.

Such squalor.

How can we combat such human misery?

This one really is in Gaza City. The owner has what appears to be an Arabic surname: Eleiwa.

Here's a link to a web page that shows Gazans making claims about an explosion, claims which technology proved were false.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaza_beach_explosion_(2006)

The claims were made to accuse Israel.

Facts are in short supply in that part of the world. Check everything you read, from both sides. The most reliable stuff comes from Israeli liberals, not from Palestinians and not from the Israeli right.

I think the point is, Gaza is really not the Mad Max wasteland we are led to believe.

It's a large enough area that some parts are bad and some parts are nice.

You can't judge a NYC slum by Maralago either. Things aren't ever simple.

If true, it would indeed be very disturbing to know that people in Gaza had decent dwellings and food to eat. Especially for someone who cares about human suffering.

Some people in Gaza have excellent food and great places to live.

Most people in Gaza, the great majority, don't.

Some innocent people there are also used as human shields.

No doubt!!! American Taxpayers financed all of it and left their own citizens live in squalor and back alleys.

The point is, the liberal media portrays Garza as a total wasteland.

Regardless, it is not like Detroit.

You could take photos of truly elegant places in Detroit as well.

The residents of Gaza do not live in luxury hotels.

The per capita income in Gaza is two dollars a day.

The fact is that Gaza is a prison. Residents cannot leave by air, sea or land without clearance by the Israelis, who frequently deny it. There are only one or two places where there is a border crossing,

The main thing about a prison is that it is a place which you cannot leave when you wish.

Jews were there first.

In reality, the Jewish people have maintained ties to their historic homeland for more than 3,700 years.

Even after the destruction of the Second Temple in Jerusalem, and the beginning of the exile, Jewish life in the Land of Israel continued and often flourished.

There was a Jewish presence in the Middle East, 2,000+ years before Islam was even founded. Called documented history.

Jews were there first.

NO, THEY WERE NOT!

Neither Israel nor Judeah ever included Gaza. Gaza was at times independent and at times part of Egypt but is was NEVER, NEVER NEVER part of Israel. In 1947 it was not part of the British mandate of Palestine, it was part of Egypt.

The Jews have the same rights to claim ownership as you do to claim Irish citizenship, because your ancestors were once inhabitants of Ireland.

There was a Hittite presence and an Assyrian presence and a fucking Canaanite presence as well, Jimbo. The Hebrews attacked without provocation the city of Jericho and ethnically cleansed it of its inhabitants. The Jews were not the original inhabitants of Israel, and previous occupation does not give anyone rights, anyway. If it did, the Indians could walk right in and take your house away from you legally.

The Jews were NOT in Gaza first, Jimbo! That is a bloody fucking lie! Not even the Bible claims that.

And there is no principle that says that he who is first has rights over those who are presently living in a place, anyway.

The actual legal code that applies is the UN Charter, which states that no nation may annex territory through military conquest. It states that the people who occupy a place have the right to decide who rules them. Israel has been slowly systematically grabbing land and vital water resources of the West Bank and East Jerusalem since 1967. Israel, created by the UN is consciously violating the UN Charter. THAT is the reality.

And no, God did not give the Jews a permanent title to Eretz Israel.

Americans are incredibly stupid about Palisrael.

The fanatics on both sides insist on making the two state solution possible.

By the way, the topic was Gaza. You claim that the presence of fancy hotels means that the Gazans are happy and prosperous.

And that is simply bullshit.

Read this book:

https://www.amazon.com/Palestine-Joe-Sacco/dp/156097432X

Joe Sacco went to Palestine, both Gaza and the West Bank and documented interviews with Palestinians. he sis not get all his information from AIPAC.

Gaza is a prison, because Gazans cannot leave without Israeli permission, which is very arbitrary. They cannot leave by air, because Israel destroyed their airport. They cannot leave by sea, because Israeli prohibits boats from entering or departing. They can leave only by land through very tightly controlled border locations.

Most Christians know nothing whatever about Shimon Bar Kochba, who claimed to be the actual Messiah and threw the Romans out of Palestine for over a year. He was the Real Deal Messiah, not a sissy "my kingdom is not of this world" types. At least until the Romans came back, under Vespasian and a really huge army. I suspect Christians do not mention Bar Kochba because then the congregation would investigate what a Messiah was supposed to be. Namely a military leader and political monarch.

The Romans did not evict all the Jews, just the ones that gave them a hard time or were in strategic places, like seaports or Jerusalem. But the Jewish population was very small until the 1800's.

The permanence of a few Jews does not in any way mean that they should be accorded special treatment, After all, they evicted the Canaanites and other tribes.

And ONE MORE TIME, Gaza was NEVER part of any Jewish homeland. Even Netanyahu would tell you that.
