There is a case to be made both ways. But you certainly can't include every crackpot that is polling next to zero.

Presidential debates should be an opportunity for the American people to decide the direction of our nation. But since 1987, everything about the debates has been predetermined by the party bosses who run Washington.

Consider that 76% of Americans want the presidential debates to include Gary Johnson and me. Yet the phony Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) is trying to rob voters of the open debates they want.

The CPD is actually a private corporation that refuses to disclose its current funders or sponsors. The Democratic and Republican National Committees both select its leaders. The CPD literally excludes the 50% of voters who reject their parties.

This two-party cartel posing as a public service “commission” admitted in a 1987 press conference that independent candidates and alternative political parties should be excluded from the debates, and they create artificial barriers to exclude them.

For example, the CPD demands that candidates poll at 15% or higher to be included in the debates. This arbitrary number was put in place the year after third-party candidate Jesse Ventura won the governorship of Minnesota. Ventura was included in debates when he was at 10% in the polls, and his performance carried him to victory. To prevent a similar upset at the national level, the CPD quickly raised the bar to the arbitrary 15% requirement.

The main objection is that if there are four candidates, this would either double the length of the debates or cut in half the time allotted to the main two candidates.

They would have to give equal time to all four candidates.

I am all for it, because the Republican Party is a very poor alternative.

I'm all for it too, because they both take away more votes from Hillary, than Trump.

Trump should be demanding their inclusion in the debates.

The answer is HELL YES!

In 1988, the George Bush and Michael Dukakis campaigns drafted the first secret debate contract -- a "Memorandum of Understanding" that dictated who could participate and under what conditions. The League of Women Voters refused to implement the contract and issued a blistering press release, stating that "the demands of the two campaign organizations would perpetrate a fraud on the American voter."

It is precisely because the League had the courage to resist the demands of the major-party candidates that the CPD was created. The Republican and Democratic parties would not tolerate a debate sponsor that insisted on challenging formats or the inclusion of third-party candidates.

WTF do these parties think they are doing? The voters should be raising hell instead of allowing two parties to dictate the rules. Now we have Clinton and Trump who are so much alike it is scary.

Clinton and Bernie Sanders are miles and miles apart not only in philosophy but also ethical standards. How can any Bernie supporter vote Hillary Clinton?

Why are voters allowing themselves to be manipulated by the bogus democrats into believing that a vote for Jill is a vote for Trump.

There is zero foundation for such nonsense and this crappy manipulation began with conservative fucking democrats who saw an opportunity to fuck with voters. It stinks beyond reality.

While Trump is the most transparent he's still out to lunch........ so is Hillary for that matter.

Show some backbone voters by telling the top parties to go straight to hell. They are insulting your intelligence and ethical standards.

YES!!!!!

The League of Women Voters held a press conference and lambasted the campaigns for having "totally abused" the process. As a result of the ensuing public outcry, the campaigns accepted all of the League's proposed moderators for the next debate.
