Read it and weep. This is the type of mass, dysfunctional insanity that has seized the imagination of a large sector of our citizenry. The United States is in desperate trouble if it can't keep crackpot politicians whose priorities are upside down, out of power

NATION WITH CRUMBLING BRIDGES AND ROADS EXCITED TO BUILD GIANT WALL

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—As America’s bridges, roads, and other infrastructure dangerously deteriorate from decades of neglect, there is a mounting sense of urgency that it is time to build a giant wall.

Across the U.S., whose rail system is a rickety antique plagued by deadly accidents, Americans are increasingly recognizing that building a wall with Mexico, and possibly another one with Canada, should be the country’s top priority.

Harland Dorrinson, the executive director of a Washington-based think tank called the Center for Responsible Immigration, believes that most Americans favor the building of border walls over extravagant pet projects like structurally sound freeway overpasses.

“The estimated cost of a border wall with Mexico is five billion dollars,” he said. “We could easily blow the same amount of money on infrastructure repairs and have nothing to show for it but functioning highways.”

Congress has dragged its feet on infrastructure spending in recent years, but Dorrinson senses growing support in Washington for building a giant border wall. “Even if for some reason we don’t get the Mexicans to pay for it, five billion is a steal,” he said.

While some think that America’s declining infrastructure is a national-security threat, Dorrinson strongly disagrees. “If immigrants somehow get over the wall, the condition of our bridges and roads will keep them from getting very far,” he said.

Excellent post Bludog!

blame the immigrant or blame the wrong immigrant. Nazi Jew hater Wernher von Braun was hailed as hero for saving the US space program, as are many other legal immigrants of our choosing. The illegals from let us say, Mexico, no..........

Even though they were lured here by businesses that they helped by working for cheap under the radar wages.

Blame the immigrants who don't come while you're at it. The ones who make your smart phone for you. Don't blame any trade deficits, don't blame any gridlock, don't blame any Gigantic Corporation or Bank that basically has a fucking monopoly because no longer are Anti-Trust laws enforced.

People know that our infrastructure is crumbling. They know we need to retrofit our buildings and homes to make them energy efficient. These things save money, help the environment, and grow the economy over time. So why do they listen to Trump ? Because he makes them feel strong, empowered, superior, and comfortable against all things that threaten a white, male, order with all it's benefits and privileges. Think about illegal immigration helping boost an already growing Latino population, black dissent around racism especially in law enforcement, and a world connected by technology, finance, and corporate capitalism. All of this cuts against the white man's sense of neighborhood, community, and identity. In a nation in a world where manufacturing drove growth and prosperity where white men worked and made great lives for themselves and their families where women, nonwhites, and LGBT people were subordinated and repressed things were great for the kind of less educated working class whites who support Trump. Never mind the ugly truth that Democratic Party Liberalism made that world possible. ( That's another post ) Our crumbling infrastructure is a harsh reality too difficult to face but a wall that keeps out them " damn illegals " is an escapist fantasy a symbol that comforts and soothes. It makes them feel good.

yes KFBvoice, against our own interest lies the real deficit. what could be the choice that would be free and make sense and usher in a sustainable and transparent economy that seems far out of reach, just what could that choice be? taking a step back and thinking hard about what an informed citizenship might mean, where more and more instead of less and less are informed about true rights and true prosperity might symbolize our need to conserve this land of ours and to bring up from the rear those who have been for so long left behind, something other than the my slice of the pie motif in order to truly recognize much that has gone wrong. seems like bits and pieces half clipped from history show only slight progression that was then halted by tragedy and war. the future is coming this much we all should know/ but from where to where.

Our city council got together a few years ago, many educated folks got involved and decided people pass by but don't enjoy our city enough. So we, a city that is financially strapped, the city council said, should break up some of the roads and make them more accessible for the pedestrian. How would you like to take a long walk to the restaurant or maybe a bike. how would you like a green view for friends and family while still reclaiming commerce. how would you value diversity and make a point to learn about people who came from different cultures other than your own, try their foods, respect their kindness and their contributions to where you live.

Peace!
