Now we can ship all that oil by rail…

Wisconsin's 2nd derailment of weekend involves train carrying crude oil

Post of the day. That's exactly what could happen too...the XL Pipeline would be safer for the environment. Obama blew it this time!

And the unions are pissed at Obama killing XL.

"A top labor union blasted the Obama administration on Friday over what it described as a nakedly political decision to once again delay a decision on the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline.

Terry O’Sullivan, general president of the Laborers International Union of America (LIUNA), called the move “gutless” and a “low blow to the working men and women of our country.”

The oil in the Wisconsin train wreck was NOT tar sands oil and the Keystone Pipeline would never have come near Wisconsin.

Who cares if it comes near Wisconsin...the point is, trucks and trains will haul the oil if there is no XL...so your point is pointless.

Now Obama is in trouble with the union over this.

If they are capping wells, it is only the ones that are not producing enough to be profitable, or those that are leaking too much methane into the atmosphere.

The total number of full time jobs that the pipeline would produce is under fifty, And you right wing shitheads hate unions and all their members.

Tar Sands oil is the nastiest stuff around.

It has sand in it, dirty sand, full of heavy metals and other nasty crap, and thwt will not be trucking that nasty crap back to Alberta, it would be deposited in landfills around the refineries.

Can private industry just say fuck it I'm building it.

No, they cannot. You cannot build a pipeline without eminent domain, and you cannot force people to sell you the right to lay a pipeline across their land without it. Keystone was an international deal, and therefore the State Department has the right to veto it. Why don't you read up on stuff? Or have someone read to you?

Now Obama is in trouble with the union over this.

There were few jobs affected. This is about protecting the environment not jobs. And my point is indeed pointed, since crude oil shipped by train across Wisconsin has NOTHING TO DO with Alberta Tar Sands oil. This raises the price of Tar Sands oil, and therefore the amount that will cross this country.

Tar Sands oil is very heavy, and the proposal was to use existing pipelines, built for oil of much less weight and viscosity. The likelihood of a pipe rupturing was far higher. If a pipeline ruptures in winter and is buried underground, it can take a very long time to be aware of the rupture and find it and fix it. This thing passed over the Oglala Aquifer, a major underground water source. You cannot irrigate with oil contaminated water.

Obama is not running for reelection. There were few union jobs involved in building this thing, and only about fifty full time ones.

Obama is smart and understands the issues. You are not smart and do not.

.....Or, seen as money-in-the-bank, until the Middle East becomes too-much a problem to deal-with.

July 7, 2010 - "The AP investigation uncovered particular concern with 3,500 of the neglected wells -- those characterized in federal government records as "temporarily abandoned."

Regulations for temporarily abandoned wells require oil companies to present plans to reuse or permanently plug such wells within a year, but the AP found that the rule is routinely circumvented, and that more than 1,000 wells have lingered in that unfinished condition for more than a decade. About three-quarters of temporarily abandoned wells have been left in that status for more than a year, and many since the 1950s and 1960s -- eveb though sealing procedures for temporary abandonment are not as stringent as those for permanent closures.

Government records do not indicate how many temporarily abandoned wells have been returned to service over the years. Federal rules require only an annual review of plans to reuse or permanently seal the 3,500 temporarily abandoned wells, but companies are using this provision to keep the wells in limbo indefinitely.

Even fully depleted wells can flow again because of fluid or gas injections to stimulate nearby wells or from pressure exerted by underlying aquifers.

Wells are abandoned temporarily for a variety of reasons. The company may be re-evaluating a well's potential or developing a plan to overcome a drilling problem or damage from a storm. Some owners temporarily abandon wells to await a rise in oil prices."

Originally there were more plans to send it through pipelines to Portland Maine.

I am one of the people who actually helped to stop the tarsands from going to Portland. I went out and collected signatures to help ban it in South Portland, where they were planning to put smokestacks. Memories of smokestacks in Brunswick GA perhaps influenced my decision to help the green party. With that nut in Canada gone, Harper, how much longer will the tar sands last?
