"conservatives"' WORST-NIGHTMARE!!!

August 2, 2016 - "Hillary Clinton raised $63 million in the month culminating in the Democratic National Convention last week, her campaign announced on Tuesday, her most successful fund-raising month to date.

Clinton officials also said the campaign received a surge of money in the 24 hours after Mrs. Clinton’s speech Thursday accepting the nomination, with $8.7 million raised. Mrs. Clinton also raised $26 million in July for the Democratic National Committee, money she is certain to benefit from now that she is formally the Democratic nominee.

Mrs. Clinton began August with $58 million in the bank, a figure that suggests she will maintain or expand her financial lead over Donald J. Trump, the Republican nominee. At a rally on Monday, Mr. Trump said his campaign had “raised with small donors $35.8 million. I believe it’s 517K donors.”

That figure would represent a substantial influx of small-donor money for Mr. Trump. The candidate did not specify whether that figure applied only to his campaign or to his joint fund-raising operation with the Republican National Committee.

His campaign did not respond to a request for more information." 528.gif

"When Sheryl Olitzky first broached the subject of a Jewish-Muslim women’s group, Atiya Aftab didn’t buy it.

“Why is someone calling me because I’m Muslim?” Ms. Aftab recalls thinking. “This is creepy.”

But as Ms. Olitzky made her case over lattes at a Starbucks in suburban New Jersey, Aftab found herself drawn in.

After that meeting in 2010, the two women launched the Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom – then just a casual gathering of local Muslim and Jewish women talking about faith and family, and sharing their experiences as religious minorities in America. Today, the group has chapters in more than 50 cities.

The success of groups such as the Sisterhood point to a growing – and perhaps unprecedented – desire among American Muslims and Jews to work toward a common goal, some say.

Over the years, “More people have become aware of their common faiths given the rise of toxic anti-Muslim, anti-Semitic hate,” says Haroon Moghul, senior fellow and director of development at The Center for Global Policy, a New York think tank. “There’s been a definite change, and for the better.”

Trump = MEDICARE FOR ALL!

January 20, 2017

"Donald Trump may have a stealth health plan that would be a surprise to millions:

It's called "Medicare for All. (MFA)"

mocking-smiley-emoticon.gif

He's not uttered these words and his party hasn't either -- and isn't likely to champion. The GOP has long sought the destruction of the Affordable Care Act and privatization of Medicare and Social Security.

But Trump's rhetoric has suggested Medicare for All and he could follow through and solve a basket of problems in one fell swoop. If he proposes such a plan, it would not only be a shocker, it would push a progressive solution to health care that has floated around for decades."

"With submarines open to women since 2010, future Navy subs are being designed to specifically accommodate female crew members.

That means overhead valves will be placed lower and made easier to turn, and steps will be installed allowing shorter people to reach triple-high bunks and the top of stacked laundry machines, the Associated Press reports.

Other examples are seats that can be moved closer to instrument displays and emergency air masks that attach at the side of passageways, instead of overhead.

Designers are also adding more bathrooms and more doors to create separate sleeping areas for men and women.

The Electric Boat company in Groton, Conn., is redesigning the Navy's Virginia-class fast-attack subs. The Navy contractor is also developing a new Columbia-class ballistic-missile submarine.

Both will consider body measurements for both men and women.

The first vessel built with some of the new features, the future Virginia-class sub New Jersey, is expected to be delivered to the Navy in 2021.

About 80 female officers and roughly 50 enlisted women are now serving on subs, according to the Associated Press."

"Theres nothing that united Republicans more tightly, during the Obama years, than their shared criticism of all the debt that racked up under the presidents watch. They raised political hell every time Democrats needed to raise the debt ceiling, and in 2011 they brought the country to the brink of default by insisting on spending and reforms in exchange for their votes.

This year, however, it’s all on them.

Trump administration officials told lawmakers this week that the Treasury Department would need authority to issue more debt earlier than expected this year, urging Congress to act before its traditional summer recess begins in August. Republican leaders initially believed they would have until the Fall before the Treasury Department exhausted the “extraordinary measures” it undertakes to buy more time, but Trump’s budget director, Mick Mulvaney, testified that tax receipts have come in slower that expected."

We have made my ancestor an idol of white supremacy, racism and hate. As a pastor it is my moral duty to speak out against racism; America's original sin. Today, I call on all of us with privilege and power to answer God's call to confront racism and white supremacy head-on. We can find inspiration in the Black Lives Matter movement, the women who marched in the Women's March in January and especially Heather Heyer who died fighting for her beliefs in Charlottesville."

"President Trump* confounded leaders from his own party on Wednesday by siding with Democrats on plans to fund the government and raise the debt ceiling, upending negotiations on a variety of crucial policy areas in the fall and further damaging his relationships with Republicans on Capitol Hill.

Trump made his position clear at a White House meeting with congressional leaders, agreeing with Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on plans for a three-month bill to fund the government and raise the debt ceiling for the same amount of time.

The president’s decision came barely an hour after House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) panned the idea of a brief debt hike, accusing Democrats of “playing politics” with much needed aid for Hurricane Harvey victims."

Australia has compulsory voting. Don't vote, you get fined.

Australia has a conservative government, and conservatives have ruled Australia more often (in terms of days in office) than the socialists have. (Although the Australian Labor Party has been neo-liberal for decades. Genuine socialism is as dead as the dodo.)

That's not all-that-surprising, seeing-as-how their reputation has (for the longest-time) been one of....a bad-imitation o' 1950s U.S.A.

"The leaders of the Senate Intelligence Committee on Wednesday largely endorsed the findings of the intelligence community that Russia sought to sway the 2016 U.S. elections through a hacking and influence campaign, and they called for a “more aggressive, whole-of-government approach” to ensure future elections are not similarly compromised.

“There is consensus among members and staff that we trust the conclusions of the ICA,” Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.), the committee’s chairman, said at Wednesday news conference, referring to the intelligence community’s assessment that Russia was behind hackings of the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton campaign director John Podesta’s email account and had attempted to exploit public opinion by sowing false information, much of it through fake social media accounts.

“But we don’t close our consideration of it,” he added.

Burr also said that “the issue of collusion is still open” and would not be resolved until the committee’s work was done. He said that a deadline for the committee was the looming start of the 2018 primary season.

“We’ve got to make our facts, as it related to Russia’s involvement in our election, before the primaries getting started in 2018,” Burr said.

“You cant walk away from this and believe that Russias not currently active,” he added."
