axxtion
I own CNC mills and lathes. I manufacture parts for aerospace and race cars. I own a 3d printer. I have no employees because it is not worth the govt. bullcrap to do so. I pay my taxes and I support my family. A good portion of my services are paid by companies overseas. You need to educate yourself in the use of technology to make a living. I'll never get rich but I can feed my family. I started in 1990 with $400. I never got a govt. backed loan. I'm white and my wife is black. I have never been or will never be a minority woman owned business. If you work hard, get your head out of your ass and play it straight, you can make it. Vegas
Capitalism will flourish even more. If this happens more disciplines and jobs will emerge from it. You need people to build and maintain these things. Computer programmers, electronic engineers, and many other technical fields will bloom. Robots make cars on the assembly line now. Yes, jobs were lost because of it, but more were created also, just in a different capacity.

Means testing is CHIT. Having to justify stock holdings as emergency retirement funds is unfair (especially is not accepted) & an unnecessary hassle for busy people. Give people what they earned. I watched owners of several subcontractors draw their S.S. even when making good money; they were able to invest better back into their companies. Means testing usually hurts borderline recipients the most wherever it is used (like educational grants/loans). http://www.thedailys...istraction-loop Dave Peiser For Congress! http://www.peiserforcongress.com/ http://<span style="...real-tax-reform http://www.freewebs....description.htm 2014: VOTE FOR WE THE PEOPLE IN THE "PEOPLE'S HOUSE!" Unknowingly, supraTruth has asked a very good question. We are in fact approaching a time when energy will be cheap and machines very smart. When we really won't have to have many people involved in producing what we need to allow everyon to live a comfortable life. This is only the first sign of that: But we aren't there yet. And Democrats insisting that everything should be free to everyone RIGHT NOW might prevent us from ever getting there.

And Democrats insisting that everything should be free to everyone RIGHT NOW might prevent us from ever getting there. i feel like the only way we won't get to that point is if WW3 stops us… it's a special time in humanity, or really any sentient beings existence, we live in a crucial period.. we are finally on the path towards sustainability and using our technology to ensure the human race's survival for the rest of the Universe, if we can get off this planet in the next few hundred years. But, in the meantime, it's a necessary evil that the same technological advances, can destroy humanity and the world. It's quite ironic, really, that our greatest chance to destroy ourselves, comes at a time when it's our greatest chance to live forever, but that's the world we live in. And when I look at the big picture, all this globalism that hasn't been easy to adjust to, I think our leaders have been on the same page, doing a good job to prevent the next great war. it has taken great sacrifices though, we cant be protectionists, and we have to adjust to this turbulent New World we find ourselves in
BeAChooser
i feel like the only way we won't get to that point is if WW3 stops us… No, if you kill science and the incentives to achieve, you will do it. And that is what Democrats seem to be trying to do. War has NEVER stopped the progress of technology and a good case can be made that it has hastened our movement towards freedom from want. we live in a crucial period. Perhaps true, because now a very few people can do great harm. we are finally on the path towards sustainability We've always been on the path towards sustainability. That's what economics is fundamentally all about, ATX. Where socialists get it wrong is thinking they can do a better job of allocating resources than a free market. if we can get off this planet in the next few hundred years. If we wait that long it will be too late I suspect. I think our leaders have been on the same page, doing a good job to prevent the next great war. Really? Do you think Obama's efforts to totally eliminate nuclear weapons will do that? NaughtyWord
Technology will eventually entirely replace the work force. One day machines will fix machines that program machines that build machines that build machines. All you'll need is a handful of designers and even they will eventually be replaced by machines and in some limited capacities already are. Some are scared shitless of this while I on the other hand, embrace it. Technology will one day transcend current economic and social trends. There will come a day when not a single human will have to work, nor will they need money, and can devote their entire lives to whatever they feel enriches them. This future isn't far off maybe your great grandchildren, or great-great grandchildren will see this day. 3D printers are a thing and as time progresses they will only get better. One day there will be a "printer" that can practically print anything you want, including another printer. There are companies who are using this technology to one day build homes and the estimated cost of these homes is a fraction of the cost of a normal home. With all needs and wants satisfied through technology and money obsolete will end all kinds of human suffering. Poverty, malnutrition, almost all crimes, war, privation, and disease will be virtually eliminated. Money is largely a middleman in trade and anyone who dealt with middlemen knows there's always a way to cut the middleman out. -NW

Do you think Obama's efforts to totally eliminate nuclear weapons will do that? Do you think Obama's cutting our defense budget at a time when countries like China and Russia are massively expanding theirs will do that? Yeh, but WW3 could actually destroy the Earth if we unleashed a buncha nukes on each other.. I think globalism helps prevent WW3, we need to work together, and there's no telling what is said behind closed doors. Instead of being a bitter rival with China, our biggest potential adversary, we'll have to recognize that they'll have a greater share of the world's economy, and probably deserve to expand a little bit. And Russia is a part of BRIC, it's the Rise of the Rest. The USA has our own sphere of influence and hegemony to protect, the world will just be divided between the world powers, and if there is conflict, which there already was/is in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, it'll be cold war type conflicts like we saw in Vietnam and Korea.. we'll be fighting each other while committing to the current order of the world, no wonder conspiracy theorists come up with such kooky theories. As far as sustainability, it's like Limbaugh once said when i was listening in, I don't have anything against windmills, ill support them when they are more economically feasible, and one day they probably will be. We'll get there either way, we'll have to adjust and there will be an economic incentive for innovation if energy is in lower supply. I don't think government can force a technology boom, though the money and subsidies isn't a complete waste. I think the USA is anti-science, alright, but it isn't the liberals.. we need to put more money in to research, look what the greatest minds did in the Manhattan Project. It's incredible what came out of some theory, look at what the French are doing with the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor, why aren't we building those things? Why did Texas let Europe get CERN? It's because we're anti-science, but no surprise, when half the dang country doesn't know we evolved from another species on this planet.

Wind power not so much. The wave of the future is tidal power in the short term and direct energy from the sun in the distant, and fusion in the far distant. It's not always windy but the tides always come in and out. Petroleum based power will one day become prohibitively expensive. It has already begun, gas has jumped up ~215% since 1999. If this trend continues (There is utterly no reason it shouldn't) it's current pace the price of gas will be $8.10/gallon in 10 or so years.
