Romney says that only a moderate Republican can win

Recommended Posts

Who the h ell is Mitt Romney to say who can win or not? So now we're taking the advice of a 2-time loser? Nominating the most liberal Republicans they can find is the main reason why the GOP lost the last 2 elections. You can't exactly expect the conservative base to get energized to come out and vote if the candidate that "supposedly" represents them does not hold dear their core conservative values.

Now it *may* attract a small portion of Independents by nominating a moderate, but by doing so, the GOP stands to lose their base. Millions upon millions of conservatives and other right wingers will flee to a 3rd party candidate, looking for greener pastures; someone who better fits into their beliefs.

So in 2016 if the choice is socialism vs less socialism, I, as well as millions of others will either sit it out or look for another candidate.

You are correct...in 2010 the Tea Party crushed the Dems and several rinos.

As much as this tears at every fiber of my being, I'll have to admit that the Democrats were right. In 2004 when Kerry lost to Bush, they didn't blame their own voters like the GOP is doing, they went and found a better candidate (campaigner) for the next go around. And what happened?

The GOP seems to think that by doing the same thing once again, they'll be a different result. By nominating a liberal Republican, he'll (or she) have to go way out of his comfort zone (too far right) to have a chance at winning the primary. And by the general, if he even tries to shuffle his feet back towards the center, the media will crucify him, brand him as a "flip-flopper", and he'll lose all credibility in his beleifs. That's why we need someone whom doesn't have to alter his positions according to the audience he is in front of.
