I pay $65 for internet and $120 to have 2 cable boxes with premium channels per month

Thinking of dropping the TV and watching what I can get on the internet

Only one cable carrier in town... RipoffCast

I don't even have the premium movie channels

Because I live in the sticks of East Tennessee I can not get cable and had use DirecTV. I dropped it because they kept rasing the price on me and it just wasn't worth it anymore.

...I'm sick of having to pay for a bunch of....religious channels.

I believe in live and let live BUT to be honest I didn't appreciate the HOMOSEXUAL CHANNEL.

I didn't want to see it off the air or anything...it just bugged me, I couldn't black it out.

Also...I had about 20 infomercial channels that DirecTV counted as regular channels towards the 119 channel package.

The private market has done a horrible job with cable television service. There is virtually no competition and people are at the mercy of these for-profit enterprises. Cable TV & all internet service should be tightly regulated as non-profit public-utilities to include their rates.

People should be able to pick and choose which channels they do & do not want piped into their homes to include what channels appear on the onscreen channel menu.

The government could and should provide basic interne, television, and home-phone service for free to poor people. There should be a free Federal Government channel that continously explains changes in laws, regulations, programs, and benefits. There should be a free local jobs channel. There should be a free early-childhood learning channel for expectant and young mothers. There should be a free no-commercial childrens channel with wholesome and educational programming. There should be a free TOEFL channel for immigrants.

You can.live without cable and internet.

Well, you can live without electricity, you can live without a car, you can live without a roof over your head, you can live without Social Security, you can live without fire protection, public roads, postal service, police, etc etc etc I suppose you can even live without health care (till you die that is)

But .... your point is??????

(btw- why is it you don't want the USA to be the best country on earth?)

Look if its essential to life like heating cooling food. Im all for welfare if you need it to survive. but you don't need cable or internet.

We need fire protection. we need roads. you don't need cable.

As I previously stated .... the following are the reasons poor people need cable.

  • There should be a free Federal Government channel that continuously explains changes in laws, regulations, programs, and benefits.
  • There should be a free local jobs channel.
  • There should be a free early-childhood learning channel for expectant and young mothers.
  • There should be a free no-commercial children's channel with wholesome and educational programming.
  • There should be a free TOEFL channel for immigrants.

I say people "need" these things ... you say they don't. See ya at the polls.

(btw - why don't you include health care as being as "essential to life" as heating, cooling, food, fire protection, roads? ---- I'm glad you agree with me about food, at least)

how much do you pay for cable/sat. a month? I pay $80 and I'm sick of having to pay for a bunch of sports channels and religious channels. and the effing shopping channels.

I pay about $160 for AT&T U-verse including phone, Internet, Starz, Showtime & DVR.

500 channels and NOTHING ON!

Reruns on the reruns, and commercials all the time!

What gets me, is that w/ALL of the DAMN SPORTS CHANNELS, there is NOT 1 SURFING/WAKEBOARDING/SKATE BOARDING/KITE SURFING/HANG-GLIDING CHANNEL; NOT EVEN 1! WTF is up with that?

I pay 99.86 for TWC digital Cable, Road Runner Standard, and DVR Service. (they are not charging me for dvr service for 1 year.) I am sick and tired of paying for channels I do not watch and duplicate channels. I only want to pay for the channels I watch. I feel it fundamentally unfair for things I do not use/watch. When I told them I wanted to cancel my Cable TV, they told me that their would be 40.00 cancellation charge, plus a 10.00 charge to pick up DVR, and my Internet would go up to 70.00 + tax a month even tho it is advertised as $39.99. on top of that they told me it would be 2 weeks before they could cut my cable off, so I would actually have to pay for a full months service, even tho I cut it off before the end of my billing cycle. I feel this is really what the cable company thinks of us:

If you watch closely in that clip you will even see the cable employee's shirt even says "Time Warner Cable" for a brief second. I have news for the cable company. Come June, my cell contract expires, and I am getting rid of my t-mobile cell service, and my Digital Cable tv. WTF do I need to watch tv in summer anyway? Nothing new is on, and it is nice out and I need to be outside enjoying the weather and exercising to loose the winter weight I put on.

$174. Phone, internet and lowest cable tier. No HBO, Showtime or other movie services. I can watch movies on a pay per view but i never do.

$174? That is fucking outrages. It's highway robbery, no way i would pay that much. I'd rather do with out. Obama is constantly attacking these big CEO's, WTF doesn't he attack the cable companies 2? They are the ones ripping us off the most, and the know their is no other alternative.

I don't even have the premium movie channels

Niether do I bro, they are a fucking rip off.

There is a homo station? do you linger. find yourself watching a little bit to much. maybe.

I don't watch Logo...... Usually. Sometimes tho they have really hot dudes, and I can't help but stare, drool, and masturbate.

So are all the viruses and trojan horses you get from porn sites!

You must be a liberal if you watch porn!

Been checked for STD's lately?

Oh, I forgot, your'e not getting laid! :P

I have never got a Virus from a porn site. Its called adblock plus, all the malware and shit is usually in the ads.

As a public service. Why should the government build roads? Offer fire protection? etc

about 75% of what you say, I can at least agree with, but the other 25% especially the Pro Big Government crap sickens me. My Point: You are a fairly reasonable and intelligent person, I just wish you wouldn't be so much in favor of Big Government and the Nanny state. Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to tell you what to think and say, I am just noting where I agree and disagree with you at.

3 DVR's. Some of US have families & have worked long & hard enough to afford it. We are not all idiotDITTOhd's.

But I agree that it is a lot more than it ought to be.

  • 6 years later...

Dude, I suggest you forget about cable TV and switch to streaming. You will save a lot of money and be able to watch whatever you want. I switched to streaming as soon as I found an alternative to cable TV on yourmoneygeek and never regretted it. No more annoying ads and a bunch of sports channels. I think this is the perfect option for you if you are tired of ordinary cable TV. There is a very wide choice depending on what you like
