NBC Caught Pushing GOP Talkingpoints

You might have seen the breathless report from NBC's Lisa Myers: "Millions of Americans are getting or are about to get cancellation letters for their health insurance under Obamacare, say experts, and the Obama administration has known that for at least three years." (This story, by the way, is a direct outgrowth of the latest Republican attacks, homing in on those people in the individual insurance market whose cheap catastrophic insurance plans are being replaced with better, more expensive ones.) Here's NBC's "smoking gun."

That means the administration knew that more than 40 to 67 percent of those in the individual market would not be able to keep their plans, even if they liked them.

ThinkProgress's Igor Volsky provides some context that bursts NBC's "blockbuster."

This all sounds very ominous until you consider that the naturally high turnover rate associated with the individual market means that it's highly unlikely that individuals would still be enrolled in plans from 2010 in 2014.

In fact, the Obama administration
this when it issued the regulations in 2010, leading Republicans like Sen. Mike Enzi (R-WY)
in order to push for repeal of the grandfather regulations.

Here is
in The Hill from Sep. 22, 2010 pointing to this very same 40 to 67 percent range. [...]

The debate was
in
, so it's unclear what exactly the NBC investigation unit has uncovered.

Perhaps it's because the NBC investigation unit is incapable of remembering back as far as three years. Or of conducting basic research. Or of taking Republican talking points with the boulder of salt required. Or of creating context, which is this: People are going to be getting more generous, more comprehensive health insurance, that won't have lifetime caps, that they can't be kicked out of if they get horribly ill, that won't charge them more if they're a woman.

Some people will have to pay more for that better insurance than they did for their existing crappy plans, but many of them are going to financial assistance to pay for the better insurance.

That's a scandal? Only for Republicans, and only for an investigative news team trying to manufacture one.

The Obama-fawning MSM are manufacturing a scandal with Repubs?

I love psychotic moonbat humor. :D

Obama's utter incompetence is finally being reported a little, moonbat. You're just lucky the MSM covered it up for five years.

The fact that the GOP is pushing the idea that health insurance and health care are synonymous should show you that they are in the insurance conglomerate's pocket... Just like the dems

And while there might be some truth in that GW, don't piss down my back and tell me that it's raining.

Lisa Myers has always leaned right, but of course you're too ignorant to know that. It's not what Hannity told you to think. RC...pathetic at every turn.

And there it is. The problem with Øbamacare....would you please tell us something tha you wouldn't mind being forced to do so other people can enjoy an advantage you do not "qualify" for? Was Øbama simply not talking to the "some people" when he said "you can keep your plan?" or was he lying to them?

Do you have reading comprehension skills pal? These people who have these bs catastrophic plans that don't cover anything are being replaced with plans that actually do. I know, only in the mind of a rightwing dumbass should people have to pay for services they don't receive for the someone else's profit, but I digress. These people will receive a subsidy helping to pay any extra costs for their revised plans that force the insurance companies to actually cover their medical costs. No the President didn't lie, these people are going to keep their plans. Plans that have now been revised giving them better coverage, and a subsidy to help them pay for it.

Bottom line? These people now have better plans that doesn't cost them one dime more. Another gotcha moment shot down in flames.

NBC finally reports the truth, and of course is this called "pushing GOP talkingpoints" from the left.

I agree. Too bad you don't understand the irony.

You don't know if they will receive a subsidy or not, so why would you make a lame claim like this?

The President DID lie, and no matter how many times YOU lie about that fact, it's not going to change.

You got busted goofy. That's because you are a pathological liar so it's not really that difficult to do. You should have seen Lisa Myers on MSNBC this morning trying to "clarify" the story.

The Affordable Care Act rolls on unimpeded by continuing rightwing ignorance. Looks like yet another vey bad week for Republicans.

Oh, so Obama promised that Americans whose plans he didn't like would lose their coverage, even if those people liked the plan and wanted to keep it?

Strange that I don't remember that promise. Do you have reading comprehension problems?

And "bs catastrophic plans" are hugely popular with people who have the money to pay out of pocket for routine coverage, especially when combined with Medical IRA's.

You couldn't bust out of a wet paper bag, moonbat.

Hmm, in your childish mind you are jealous others might get more ice cream than you. Of course you didn't mind it when when you had the whole box of ice cream to yourself, or hoarding those snicker candy bars from others.

NBC, like the other corporate-owned media whores, also failed to point out that the insurance companies that dropped their clients due to the enhanced coverage requirements of the ACA, would be offering better policies for less money, after subsidies are taken into account.

also unmentioned...over half of all Americans, young and old, who are not covered and get covered under the ACA, will be able to purchase coverage for $50 a month OR LESS.

Some stats are just too boring to report, I guess.

This is the new talking point of the left, even though they have no way of knowing whether these people are eligible for subsidies or not.

BTW, you ARE aware that there is a lawsuit challenging the subsidies in the Federal Exchange, aren't you? According to the law, it's illegal for the Feds to grant subsidies, that can ONLY happen in the State Exchanges.

There are specific, clearly laid-out, formulaic instructions, widely available, that show who is eligible for subsidies and how much is available.

Not our fault you're too stupid to do a little research.

You can lie all you want, but reality has a liberal bias.

My point, since you were too fucking stupid to comprehend it, is that YOU don't know whether these people qualify for a subsidy or not, yet you continue to make the claim that they will get one.

Dumbass.

Don't call me pal. I'm not your friend. You lie by conflating the low income cases that "qualify" for the subsidies with all those others who do not. It is a clever lie, and you are a useful idiot for repeating it, but as the number of letters that Americans continue to receive, informing them that their policy no longer meets Øbama's requirements climbs closer to the millions, your lie will become more and more apparent. You try to make it seem as though the consumers who knowing chose catastrophic plans because they lead more sensible and successful lives than you, and can afford to pay for minor medical services, bought their plans without knowing what they were purchasing. Kinda like all the idiots like you who acquired home loans they could not afford. Well, just because you are stupid, and make poor life choices does not justify forcing the reasonable, conservative members of society to pay for your stupidity.

Oh yeah - fuck you...
