What do you think about this post by Thomas Sowell regarding the govnt

Recommended Posts

This is how the article looks to me: Sowell reasons that House Republicans didn't violate the Constitution or break any law by using a partial government shutdown and possible blockage of raising the debt ceiling to defund the ACA. He further tries to show that neither action will have serious consequences for the Nation; A weak argument.

Sowell fails to deal with the ethics of bypassing the legislative process in favor of using threats to the Nations well-being in order accomplish their goals; An irresponsible tool for minority rule.

exactly ,the spirit of the law has entered a big grey area with boner refusing to allow a vote...if the powers are truly separate then the separate powers must be allowed to function for any to work.

a few on the right have hijacked this process, and the whole country is held hostage

its treasonous

It's a crock...basically the Teabagger view that a House Majority can use EXTORTION to retroactively cancel PAST laws..then....come back every MONTH with more ransom demands. Yeah...we GET that Gerrymandering makes many TEABAGS immune to getting voted out...MANy...obviously...not all as polls show. Legislation by EXTORTION? Not okay. That's how the Nazi's took power. That ended MESSY.

Skip the EXTORTION/Ransom crap and stabilize the economy awhile...and you can TRADE stuff...the way our Govt works except during a zombie apocalypse. Between the LEGAL BRIBERY of Citizen's United and now the Koch's Lobby group-Heritage...intimidating the CRAP out of even the SPEAKER...not to mention the "silent majority" of GOPPERS in the house....we face a bigger crisis than this shutdown...we face the full collapse and corruption of Govt.

As the Chinese just said...maybe it's time that America is not the nation that leads this world. Is that really the GOP objective?

Concise yet comprehensive. To some degree this describes what is happening to our government with the arrival of Plutocracy and the end of Representative Government. Time will tell whether this trend will deepen or dissipate. I shudder to contemplate a worst case scenario with all three branches of govt in Tea Party control.

You actually want to pry those ancient, ensconsed blobs of useless lard from their cush, bribery padded sinecures? You really want to get in idealistic public servants who might put the needs of the voters first? The Plutocrats will not countenance it.

The blaze orange elephant in the room which the mainstream media studiously ignore:

The government of the USA legislates (or not) largely in response to legalized bribery from corporations and the ultra rich. With that money they gerrymander districts, eliminate opposition voters with unreasonable ID and other requirements and run the mightiest, most sophisticated propaganda machine the world has ever seen. Republican lawmakers participate in this process more than democrats who get a portion of their funds from small private donors. The Supreme Court participates in this process. http://articles.washingtonpost.com/2012-03-22/opinions/35446967_1_elena-kagan-recuse-justice-anthony-m-kennedy SCOTUS has recently overturned the results of a democratic election and sanctioned even more bribery at the highest levels. Now, in an upcoming case, it is poised to fully open the floodgates of legalized corruption.

Even on MSNBC, a channel with a supposedly Liberal slant, the problem is never framed the way it has in this thread and other parts of these forums. Personally, I have little doubt many of the MSNBC commentators would love to publicize the corruption and its results but they would probably be silenced by dismissal if they did more than mention it in passing.
