NOAA Confirms Climate Change Intensifys Extreme Heat and Storms

According to a new report released by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, extreme heat waves like we saw in 2012 now happen four times as often because of global warming pollution.

The study looked at several extreme weather events from last year and concluded that at least half of them were intensified or made more likely by climate change. The floodwaters from Superstorm Sandy, for instance, were made worse by rising sea levels, and the odds of a Sandy-like disaster happening again in New York City have already increased by 50 percent. Those odds will increase even more dramatically by the end of the century..

“Coastal communities are facing a looming crisis due to climate-related sea level rise,” William Sweet, one of the NOAA scientists who examined Sandy for the report, told the New York Times. Again, we are talking about tens of millions of Americans.

Keep in mind that this study looked at events that already happened. People have already scrambled to keep unusually high floodwaters out of their homes. They have already rushed children to the ER because record-breaking heat is making smog pollution worse. Climate change is threatening our communities right now, and we owe it to our children to confront this danger before it gets worse.

what are we going to do about it shintao? give all our money to al gore? what do you want us to do about it?

Isn't it obvious?

He wants to reduce emissions of CO2 in all developed countries to ZERO so that extreme heat occurs only 3.9 times as often.

And so the hardcore socialist and communist elitists in control (he thinks he will be one) can make everyone else's life miserable.

Is that some kind of new denier cult meme, BigStupid? Do you really believe that if someone tells you about a problem and they have no solution to the problem, then there magically is no problem? That's so funny.

What "we", the human race, can do about global warming is to stop pumping tens of billions of tons of carbon into the atmosphere every year by making the transition from fossil fuels to non-carbon emitting renewable energy sources as soon as possible.

But you want to keep giving all your money to Exxon.

What is a "mind" to keep? Hope, faith, charity, instincts? Every lifetime lives a sole existence passing in an adapt or become extinct moment equally.

Yes, pg is one of those who thinks destroying the economies of the entire developed world is a small price to pay for reducing the rise in global temperatures that AGWscientists predict from 4 degrees C to 3.5 degrees, instead. I guess pg thinks that a 4 degree rise is very bad ... but a 3.5 degrees rise will be ... well ... acceptable. Right, pg?

Damn you guys are HILARIOUS!!!

NOAA just restated what CLIMATE CHANGE is!!!

Then you morons go and conflate the phrase "climate change" to mean your myopic, and self serving definition of man made algorebal warming.

You really need to learn how to read and think, and quit being so damn self centered.

Well prayer hasn't changed anything.

How about we move all the smoking factories, refining corporations, and cattle, pigs, sheep, .... to 45th parallel in Montana? That should be high enough to catch the gulf stream.

well...when al gore lives like a peasant...so will i...

Hmm, I thought you already were? What a disappointment!!!

Yes child. Take a seat on a pointy rock, I bet you don't need lube.

Shint it's pretty obvious, even my blind chimp I rescued from a science testing facility [they do science at these facilities, the left doesn't like this science but science is infallible??? go figure];

You and your ilk try to make the phrase "climate change" mean algorebal warming caused climate change.

I've seen my kids do magic shows, and I bust those kids so much they don't let me watch the shows any more.

The left's tricks are like figuring out the tricks at an aborted baby's magic show.

We need the earth to warm up a few degrees. With higher temperatures farming seasons will be extended and we will produce twice as much food. The oil industry has world hunger in its crosshairs.

Hmm, we got a whole degree warming in 2012, and that doesn't seem to be extending a growing season. It gave us a mix bag of freezing & heat weather that damaged crops drought & freeze.

Sure pg 15 is as much or more BS than pages 1-14, and 16 - infinity, any pages with comments from liebrals are even worse.

This is the deal, I don't know what to believe in all this back and forth BS. I got airconditon & an icemaker, I don't have to be in heat if I chose to stay out of it. I ran across the article hoping someone with brains on this stuff can tell us all about it. I kind of wonder if the warming isn't being caused by internal heating of earth's core, unrelated to smog & stuff. Coral beds dying sounds more like heat from below than from above. So, anyway, read the article.

Doesn't a freezing space suck off the rising heat in the atmosphere?

Shintao you know as much about it as anyone.

You do have a point with the earth's core, one that I forgot about. Recently it was discovered the earth's core is 1000 degrees C hotter than previous estimates of 5000C. That's a increase of 20%, a huge number, especially when dealing with the energy levels involved.

So a lot of the heat could come from thermal vents in the ocean, fact is no one has any idea exactly how much heat is transferred from the core, through the mantle, to the ocean waters.

You asked doesn't heat radiate into space?

Yes, a lot of heat radiates into space. NASA, a few years ago, had to admit they miscalculated, or misreported, this number by quite a large amount. I'm pretty sure I posted about NASA here in 11.

Then there is the sun, for some reason the super smart algorebal scientists made the energy output from the sun a constant. The energy output from the sun is far from constant. The sun was very active during a past 22 year period that ended a couple of years ago. The earth is a large heatsink so the energy gained from the sun will take a while to radiate back into space.

From the current observable data it appears the earth has radiated off a lot of this energy.

It is wrong for us to call this extra energy, or more energy, or less energy from the sun than is normal because that would mean we're defining normal based on our time, our perspective. The sun's output changes a lot, so we're merely in this phase of the energy output from the sun.

There is also the fact that the earth changes its angle relative to the sun. This is known as precession. Think of a spinning top, the top, of the top wobbles around in a circle, which is precession.

The earth moves through 1degree of precession every 72 years, so it takes 25,920 years [72years x 360degrees] for one revolution of this wobble.

This angle to the sun changes the amount of energy from the sun that reaches different areas of the earth at different times of the day and year.

[here's the facts about long term climate modeling. once you get away from the algorebal warming cult you can see rational science fields disprove climatologists claims http://oceanworld.tamu.edu/students/iceage/iceage2.htm

precession_2.jpg

Even the algorebal warming folk admit if we did everything they asked for it would have maybe slowed their projected temperature increases [which have been proven to be complete lies, based on falsified data] by only a few fraction of a degree Celsius over the next century. So what the eff is the point?

The fact is that throughout history man has always striven to use energy more efficiently. We inherently have worked to reduce the amount of carbon we output off energy usage because energy costs money. Even if there was not money back in caveman days people wanted to conserve the amount of energy they output to collect wood and also make the wood or fuel they gathered last longer. So they learned to place rocks around fires, then piled rocks higher and built ovens, then lined these with mud and made better ovens etc... all this was done to save energy thus produce less carbon.

My point in that ramble is efficiency is built into the system. We've been doing it for a long, long time. So as far as I'm concerned, you follow the money. Who stands to gain off taxing air and who stands to lose? The poor are who will lose the most, and who are now losing the most off all the hotair BS. Energy prices are insanely high, so much so electricity is being considered a luxury in Germany.

Seems real strange to me that if these politicians and backers of algorebal warming really cared about the poor as much as they claim then they wouldn't make it more difficult for the poor to afford stuff because all the stuff you buy has the price of energy tied into it at some point.

Thank you, very coherent and logical and learning experience.

What do you think would happen if we created the conditions to grow mass amounts of vegetation and trees in all the dry areas of states? Replenished the aquafiers, and increased ground moisture? I would like to do that with nuke plants & desalination plants on our coasts.

Do you think that would lower global temps, seeing as it would be such a great massive area of new coverage? Spawn a new ice-age. Increase atmosphere moisture & humidity as a constant.

tomorrow for me ~ I am out of here!

Yea, nobody is suggesting the destruction of economies. What is being suggested is that we shift our free market system onto a more environment friendly track to save the world. Everything is a smaller price to pay for that.

The Earth hasn't warmed in 13-14 years, moonbat.

Even warming hysterics admit that.

They don't admit that. It has been explained over and over. Surface temperatures have temporarily shifted to increased ocean temperatures. You need to stop getting your information from Exon.

Yes, even most warming hysterics have admitted that, and have offered many guesses as to why not.

This has been reported many, many times by now.

No, there is absolutely no actual science about any temperature shift.

You need to stop getting your information from Exon.

Well then what are you suggesting? Because your own alarmist scientist models are saying that to reduce the growth of temperature over the next century by even 10% will require we totally eliminate CO2 emissions in the developed world. And we need to eliminate CO2 emissions NOW to achieve that 10% reduction. Do you deny this? Or are you denying that totally eliminating CO2 emissions now would wreck economies? Or are you claiming that a reduction of temperature growth less than 10% would save the world?
